Monday Night Football. That was Al Michaels, Frank Gifford and Dan Dierdorf announcing, with Dierdorf most amped.

Larry was certainly special. We were so lucky to have a guy like that on our O-Line. I was always amazed by him because of the fact that he could play anything on the line and wouldn't miss a beat. The guy was just absolutely amazing.

Larry Allen - Greatest Of All Time at his position. You'd be damn hard pressed to find someone as good.

I would say he was the greatest Offensive Lineman ever. Anthony Munoz, John Hannah, & Jim Parker have all held that distinction over the years but I believe Larry was better than any of them (and I saw them all play).

Allen was named 1st team All Pro and to the Pro-Bowl at 3 positions: RG, LG, & LT!

The only guy that surpasses him in versatility is Bruce Matthews who was a Pro-Bowler and 1st team AP at 3 OL positions as well but one of them was Center so I have to give it to him over Big Larry but Allen was the more dominant player.

IMO we have 3 players who were the GOAT at their positions: Bob Lilly, Larry Allen, & Emmitt Smith. Pretty awesome if you ask me!

I would rank Lilly ahead of Allen partially due to the position he played and also his longevity with the team.

The only NFL offensive lineman that made me second guess that I could had played in the NFL, Allenitis proved that I wasn't the only one. :laugh2:

Thumper that is so cool isn't it? To even be able to say your team had 1 guy, in their history, that could potentially be hailed as the GOAT at their position is amazing and something very special.

For Cowboys fans to have 3 guys who people could make a case for being the GOAT at their position is just absolutely amazing.

The more you think about Larry, the more you watch his old stuff and listen to the respect and awe that his teammates, and opponents, had for him it just makes you realise even more how absolutely special he was.

When I was watching that top 100 Greatest Players, to listen to John Randle (who I've got a great deal of respect for and thought was absolutely amazing at DT) talk about Larry gave me chill bumps. The way he mentioned that Larry was the only guy he didn't talk smack too, didn't try and get him mad, is a testiment to just how great Larry really was.

Absolutely amazing. If Smith learns from Larry and becomes half as great as Larry was then we'll have something special at the tackle position for a dozen years and another guy who might be HOF worthy.

I have said this before, it is quite possible that Larry Allen is the best player to ever wear the star. The gap to the 2nd best at his position is greater than almost anywhere else. He was a Pro Bowl player at 4 of the OL positions and an All Pro at 3 of them. He is easily the most dominant physical force I ever saw.

I remember watching this as a kid. Dad had coached me to be a big Larry Allen fan because he knew more about football than I did...the amount of hollering going on in our house at that time wasn't for Aikman's pick, but that play by Larry Allen. In-freaking-credible.

I can't remember whether I've told you this story or not. A buddy of mine was a LB and he used to have nightmares about trying to tackle Earl Campbell. He used to wake up screaming as Campbell's jersey ripped away and he was gone.

I think so. And I think Larry could have been at least a Pro Bowl Center if you asked him to.

I can imagine. Earl was an absolute beast. That play of him running over the defense and having his jersey ripped from him, while he just keeps going, was amazing. I really wish they'd had some more help for him in Houston during his day where they possibly wouldn't have ran the guy into the ground. That guy was special as well. Amazing player.

I would have like to see him play on the defensive line for a snap or two. I bet that would have been fun to watch him blow up an offensive front! :laugh2:

You and I know that it is hard for a football player to admit fear or failure but when they do you know it is the God's honest truth.

I would not have taken money to line up against Larry and as Strahan said, players found convenient injuries the week of facing Allen.

Yep. As a FB for me the player was Mike Singletary. It was something about those eyes. I am proud to say that no one I ever blocked got the tackle or the sack. Not in HS and not in college practices (I never got to play in a college game due to a knee injury). But I had this feeling that I couldn't have blocked the Samarai.

Actually it was a week 15 Monday night game which the cowboys won 24-16

Allen very well may have been the most dominate O lineman I ever saw on a football field.

But for some reason I just really enjoyed watching Eric Williams in his prime go against White, more then anything else when watching the O-Line.

Making the line calls might have been a problem for him. Not that he wasn't smart enough just the communication aspect of it. :D

Big-E was probably the most terrifying OL I've ever seen. I played DT & DE and I would have hated to go up against him. I would have wanted to see just how good Allen was but Williams? Not a chance, I wouldn't have wanted to face him for anything!

Allen was dominating and the better player but he wasn't as likely to hurt you as Williams was. Making Wedgie Whine cry made Big-E one of my all-time favorites!

What a treat it was to see those two blocking for us (plus Nate)! If Big-E hadn't gotten hurt he would probably be in the HoF by now.

The thing is that they mentioned he did have a slight angle. That was taken away if you watch the replay from the endzone perspective. Allen was standing flat-footed when he realized the play was going the other way. He chased an already running player down from a cold start. Starts at about 45 seconds...

Yep. Dan mentioned that in the video when the guy said something about the angle he mentioned "Look Larry is just standing there when the LB starts running down the field."

Dan was absolutely impressed, as he should be, and as is expected from a former OL guy.

No doubt, he was a flat out nasty junk yard dog with talent to back up his mean streak..

He did not just want to block you, he wanted to hurt you, demoralize you, ground you into the turf and make you cry for you mama.

Man I miss him and would have loved to see him have a full and healthy career in the NFL.
