Larry Allen to old? That is wrong!

the reason he grades out to a #1 on the offensive line is because the rest of the o-line doesn't grade out very well. He has lost his mobility,he no longer pulls effectivly. The fact that he made the pro-bowl again is wrong. His best days are behind him,and for that cap hit no thanks. This is why I belive we have major problems trying to fix the o-line

Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away..Larry Allen was one of the best to ever play on the O-line. Today, he is as immobile as everyone says Bledsoe is. Crazy Cowboy, How in God's name do you figure that he "grades out" at #1??? Were any of you Allen lovers watching the same games I was? I can count at least seven games where he was caught on candid camera laying down to a DT or LB. He just gives up on plays. I once noted that he half heartedly shoved his man on a run to the right, then by no coincident, his man made the tackle on the right side. Allen used to be a beast, but I swear...whoever voted him into the pro-bowl must have done it out of pity. I LOVE seeing ANY Cowboy go to ther pro-bowl, but be serious. He did not deserve to go. Any of you who taped the games (or tivo'd) go back and see what I'm talking about. It is painfully obvious. I "grade him out" about a C...very average but a good measure better than others on the O-line.

Larry Allen can give us 5 more years and make the Pro Bowl! He graded out as our #1 lineman each week.

In addition, Larry had become a leader trying to help the young players with technique and blocking assignments.

He is a very valuable piece of our offensive line and don't forget it for ONE SECOND ZONERS IN DOUBT!

:laugh2:

we all agree he's not worth the money, but he might make it for one more year at his cap hit - we'll call this next season his UFA year and see how he does. as long as Flo is at his side i think its a good tandem. its the center and right side of the line that worries me. but i would not be surprised to see Allen refuse a pay cut and end up leaving the team, either. it almost happened last year...

I would not say that Larry Allen is to old. I would say that LArry Allen is too slow.

He lacks quicks.

Larry may have a little tread left on the tires. However, good teams cut guys when they stop being as effective as their contracts warrant.

We spent years with Jerry being the stupid soppy GM who keep guys who needed to retire around too long. The idea that guys should play their whole careers with a team only works if the players know when it is time to hang them up.

Time to cut LA so we can move on.

Parcells probably signed Rivera so he could cut Allen. Rivera does not make nearly the same amount as Allen. Hope Rivera heals up nicely, because I don't think LA will restructure. He will probably be gone along with Glover, Ellis, Nyugen, and Singleton this coming year. Wouldn't be surpised to see Peterman starting next year.

We gotta keep him!

He is a hall of famer and still our best O-lineman. Theres no other player on this team that I would give that kind of money too. LA is a leader on the offense and **** you to whoever says he is too old. Just look at Ray Brown for example on the Commanders 43 and still going!

We gotta keep Larry Allen until he decides to retire or if he asks to be cut or traded. I love larry!

No he was not are best linemen; you guys need to rewatch film he was a big reason why the run game sucked other than pass blocking where he can go mono to mono and get by on brute strength he struggles. He stumbles a lot he falls down a lot and he miss reads blocks a lot in the running game know he struggles to get to the second level and he whiffs when acting as the pulling guard 90% of the time.

Allen has lost his agility and is not worth keeping sorry but allen needs to go period

i dont think Glover will leave, nor singleton. But i do think Allen should leave, either by choice or forced. He is not worth 7 mil. I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft Marcus McNeil and see if can fill that spot at LG. I know he is a LT but he is extremely athletic, quick, runs a 4.9 40 and with his spine problem, playing G makes more sense, dont' have to move as fast to the corners to catch up with speed rushers. So my prediction for the line next year would be,

flo,mcneil,gurode,rivera,pettiti, or FA .

Larry Allen held it down from what I seen....Only a idiot would let that beast go.

7 mill or not he's the best we got....

Whats wrong with his spine?

He has a medical condition that affects his back. I have watched him for 4 yrs at Auburn and never seen any signs of bad play because of it, but as he gets older, it might be a factor. One of the reasons he is not a top 10 guy.. but he is a first rounder.

A 6'9" guard? I kinda doubt that. No way we take McNeil at 18 to play guard. He has the size and wingspan of a tackle. We need someone to compete at RT next year that can play LT in the event Flo were to go down again. If that's McNeil great, if his back is an issue we move on to someone else.

Larry is overpaid at this point but he did make the pro bowl.

Spare us that fans voted him in on his rep. Fan votes count as only 1/3 of the final count. So either coaches or fellow NFL players voted him in. Were their votes for him simply becasue of his reputation? Please, Larry is still better than 90% of Guards around the league despite not being GREAT in space anymore.

I saw it time and time again when LA pulled last year. Players just bracing themselves for his block or taking themselves out of plays completely to avoid being hit by Larry. True he does whiff sometimes but look a little more closely at his play. He still has it.

Be careful what you wish for. I remember a lot of Flo hate right after he got hurt to the effect that it wasn't that big a deal, Flo sucked anyway. How'd that work out?

As of right now the backup to LA is a young guy in Peterman that Parcells seems to have little confidence in and has yet to see the field. Sign Steve Hutchinson and I'll tell Larry myself to take a hike (ok I won't). Until we have a viable alternative it doesn't matter how ridiculous his cap is.

LA and Greg Ellis are the two guys presently on the squad I'm watching closest as to what we do. My guess as of today is LA stays another year and GE is traded.

Hate to tell you this, but you're dreaming. Opposing players ran by him most of the time like he was going the other way. He got into the pro bowl on reputation. If we're honest about this and if we MUST rehash games, it will be PAINFULLY evident how much he has left. The guy is average at BEST now.

This is pretty much my perception of Larry Allen at this stage. Seems like everytime someone was in the backfield LA was standing at the line of scrimmage looking forlornly back at the guy that just beat him.
This is not the same LA that Madden frequently called, in the mid '90s, maybe not only the best lineman to play the game, but maybe the best player to ever play the game

Yep. The same coaches and players that voted for Michael Vick. 1/3rd of the total vote is alot, considering fans shouldn't be able to vote at all.
