Last Kickoff should have been dropped at the 5

Like all of us, I was concerned on the last possession that we were leaving Rodgers too much time. I said at the time we should pop the ball up and try to drop in between the 5 and the goalline in order to run more time off the clock. Every second you leave Rodgers is critical and that would have eaten up at least a few seconds. Of course there is a risk of return, but with the touchback being the 25, I think I would take that risk as you may well be able to use up some time and pin them behind the 25.

Anyway, with all of the second guessing, I hadn't seen anything brought up about this. My 2 cents.

Funny you say that, I thought the same at the time. It kills off maybe 6 seconds. That was the difference,

Good observation.

To me if you give Rodgers any time, he will chuck up multiple Hail Marys and his receivers are uncanny in coming down with them.

He has to be held at the his 20 at a minimum to prevent that.....

I was thinking...why didn't we even attempt to jump the pile on the field goal?

4 scenarios and neither is bad...

flag....blocked kick, they kick again but 5 yards closer (not a big deal)

Flag...they make kick, game over

We don't get the block

Blocked kick, overtime

Maybe we did try to jump it, I don't know....I could hardly watch it and I won't ever watch a replay.

I said the exact same thing in my play-by-play. Drop the ball on the two ,make it to the 21 there will be 8 seconds less to do something.

Byron Jones set a broad jump record at the combine. Have him hurdle the center.

The only time since he left that I wished we still had Bruce carter. Blocked kicks is what he did best.
Heck even put David Irving in the middle and have him time a jump.
To the OP I had the same thoughts about the kickoff

Hutchens' sack of Rodgers that caused the 3rd and 20 convinced me that we were going to over time. At that point, nothing that happened before that seemed to matter. Analyzing those things with hindsight is so self defeating. Rodgers made a play and broke out hearts. Period.

Totally agree. I said the same thing right before they kicked off. Again, no one in the coaching ranks has a clue of how to manage a game. See, the spike. So dumb.

For as smart and analytical as Red wants to come across as, little in game strategies like this don't seem to be on his mind. If a guy sitting on his coach can figure it out, one would think our ivy league coach could too.
