Last Week a Commanders Troll...

...posted a thread asking if our season was over if we lost to Oakland.

There was some pretty spirited response to him given there would still be 12 games left.

Did he get to some of you? Have you bought into his "nonsense" after the loss?

I still say there are 12 games left and this is a young team. There are going to be bumps in the road. I wanted 10-6 and a playoff spot. That is still very achievable. Even if the Eagles still own us this week.

I don't want to get too high or too low after a win or a loss. I just want to see a young team begin to gel and come together. Games that come down to the final 2 minutes to be decided will do that. It doesn't take much to start a snowball rolling down the hill. As it rolls it gets bigger. It may not hit all the pins at the bottom of the hill, but very few of us had the Super Bowl in mind for this year anyway.

Plenty of time. If I can be patient, so can you, because I am not a patient man when it comes to football. No excuses, we don't need them. No umbrellas for the falling sky either.

Commanders trolls are rarely right people. Somewhere between laughing at him and the loss it seems a few have forgotten that.

Look at it this way: Oakland is a much better team than their record would indicate. I watched them play Philly at home the week before and they physically beat on the Eagles. Philly was very fortunate to come away with the win. And this is a very good Philly team(geez I hate saying that) that was knocked down several times by KC, in KC, and came back to win in that very tough environment.
I agree with Hos's assessment. This is a Dallas team that, if it hits it stride this season, will do it late in the season. Hopefully by that time the Eagles will be faltering and the 'skins lucky streak will have run out.

Like I said...

you have to be hitting on all cylinders to keep an 0-3 team down in their home stadium. Especially a capable one like Oakland.

We really didn't deserve the win and the only thing that kept us in the game was their relentless and never-fail penalizing of themselves over and over again.

We weren't really beating them aside from those penalties and we certainly didn't capitalize on those opportunities so I didn't expect a win at that point.

We should have lost to SF and OAK but deserved a win against WAS and SD. 2 and 2. It's what we are and it's worked out that way. But so far, I have seen some consistent ability to do alot of things that we haven't been able to do in a LONG time so that is very promising. (score high, force turnovers, take successful shots downfield, rally from behind, pressure the QB, etc.) I think this is still a growing team that is getting better each week. Some aspects will show up and disappear until things start clicking but I think they will soon...

and may God be with the opponents when they do.

I totally agree with what you are saying and I am amazed at the number of "seasoned" posters here who have called the Raiders game and/or this Eagles game a "make or break" game.

That is a very simpleminded way of looking at our season, especially when you consider how young we are. We knew this going in - yet some people aren't willing to give the team the time to go through these growing pains WE ALL KNEW were coming.

At the beginning of the season, all you saw were posts like "we will be better towards the end of the year after the defense comes around" and "we're young, we'll have some tough games along the way."

Well, give these young kids a chance and remember, Bledsoe is a first year QB here, Petitti is a rookie, Spears is a rookie, Canty is a rookie etc.

Forget about the Commanders troll, there are numerous posters on this very board whos' outlook for this team is just as ridiculous.

Enjoy the growth period like the early 90's and one day you can enjoy reflecting back on times just like these.

Relax indeed.

Agree Hos. No way this guy was legitimate. I Gave him an opportuinity to provide a sensible response to the comments on my reply to his thread, yet he never responded.

FYI my response to his thread ...

Why, and be specific please.

Will the players have their hearts in it anymore if they lose big?
Probably no more or less than a Commanders, Giants or Eagles loss. Actually a loss by "1" points hurts just as much or maybe more than a big numbers loss -- (added) you've just added fuel to the fire in your next game against the Cowboys.

Will the coaching staff feel like coaching anymore? Will they just go through the motions? Will the fans give up?

Coaches, and players are porfessional enough to withstand a setback of any caliber -- they factor-in less than perfect seasons and go from there. True dedicated Cowboy fans will no more give up on their team than any Other die-hard fan. That's a borderline rediculous statement RSO!

It is entirely possible that the end is near
The end of what?

Final Note:

I may have been wrong by thinking he was not a troll, because he was given every opportunity to respond reasonably. Was he banned?

Speaking of Commanders trolls, did anyone catch HBO's This Week in the NFL last night?

The panel decided which of the currently undefeated teams won't make the playoffs.

Hint. It's the team whose fans are acting like three early wins establishes a dynasty.

Point taken tho. It's a loooonnng season, and what counts is how things are shaking out in late December. The fat lady by no means sang in Oakland.

I'd be pretty happy if the team reversed the 2003 performance in terms of halves of the season and stormed in to the playoffs on a 5-1 roll. I'd certainly feel better about a playoff game under those circumstances than I did aout the matchup at Carolina.

It has become evident that the first part of this season is going to be about keeping the record close enough to remain in striking distance at crunch time. Hopefully the youngsters come on late in the season rather than wilt.

On the flip side, I hope we don't act like the Commander fans should we somehow pull an upset this week against Philly. Meaning act like it was OUR superbowl or something.

I was disappointed that we lost, but I'd thought all along that the Oak game wasn't going to be a gimme game. I imagine most folks aren't as upset with the loss as far as HOW it was lost. But with that said, it really is time to move on. Got some big divisional games coming up and I think it's time to really focus on those.

Its got nothing to do with the skins, a skin fan or anything. Nothing will dampen my enthusiasm, but I can read the writing on the wall.

If anything I am guilty of seeing too many 'potential stars' and reading into that that we will instantly be better.

I wont lie, I am disappointed in this version of the boys, but not by what anything anyone has said, but by measuring them up to a championship contender just a little too soon. I may be guilty of something.

In essence, looking back over the last 4 games, I have re-evaluated ny expectations for this years boys. I have grounded my expectations, tempered with reality. We are not a 10-6 team, we will be lucky to get to 8-8 at the current rate.

We can get better quickly and maybe turn 8-8 into 10-6, but the reality I see is we are 1-2 years away.

We are rebuilding again. What is different this year from the last two years of rebuilding, is we actually have quality 'bricks' to start the building with. The last two years, almost all the 'bricks' we laid were blown away and we are almost starting over in the rebuilding process. I think I was initially mad and upset when I realized this. I am over that now. I am prepared to wait now and so long as we are getting better every week, I am happy. I know it wont be long till we start seeing real growth, success and wins.

The skins fans, and boys fans for that matter, can say what they like. It wont change a thing in my world what the skins fans think of my boys or my brethren boys fans. They can give it hell all they want, but I know we are better them then at least.

I think we are on the road now. just took a little while to actually get this thing rolling, but soon it will take off on its own power and no one will be able to stop it.

Parcells incouraged all of us with this off season. Hes made mention next draft will primarily offense. Thats what I was hoping for. With the hit we had in this years draft, if we can do half that on offense next year. we will be markedly better and it will soon show.

I am fine with where we are. I still think we will get our butt spanked by philly this week, and a better then average chance the following week by Jints. But that does not make me a non fan. these are growing pains we will have to deal with. Each loss should teach new lessons, show more opportunity for growth.

I love the current make up of my boys. We are a class organization with class pple running the show and on the field. We are headed in the right direction finally. I consider the last two years trial and error, but we did finally find the right path and now nothing can stop us from driving it all the way homne, except ourselves. We have sent notice to the league, we are climbing our way back to the promise land and will be ready to claim what was once ours in about 2-3 years.

No, the sky is not falling....however, I would feel much better if I saw progress in a positive direction from this team on a weekly basis.

At this point, with the conservative play-calling, I honestly do not see a team out there that is a "given".

This ain't the NFL of a decade ago....my how quickly a decade passes.

I'll admit, if we beat the Eagles I will feel some sense of relief. If for no other reason than they are a hurdle. Will it signal a changing of the guard or a team epiphany? No, it won't.

I want this team to be hitting on all cylinders in December. To do that they need to figure out how to overcome adversity.

I understand your point. But when folks stop getting upset over losses, usually means the season is lost. People will respond to the Cowboy losses in their own way and that’s good, they have that right. And really, who cares? All that matters is the Cowboys on Sunday.

This looks like the 1990 team to me. Lots of young talent developing early in the season that gels and helps the team get on a strong winning roll in the second half. Here's hoping.

I agree and said the same thing before the start of the season. I expect break downs and those things have happened. I also expected to see guys come up with some big plays that has also happened. I really feel we will show a lot of improvement as we go on.
