Sadly, this perspective is exactly what I think is motivating Jerry's and Stephen's inaction. See, we didnt do anything last year in free agency until bargain basement, and we went 12-4. But it is flat out wrong. It is wrong because, last year, we had a 3rd place schedule and caught lightning in a bottle with Demarco's career year and the Zach Martin draft pick, which covered up a bad defense. To think that it is going to happen again with a first place schedule and playing a revamped AFC East (Suh, McCoy, Revis), as well as Seattle, is naive. We have done nothing to improve a rotten front 7 and have lost the guy (Demarco) that covered up how bad it was. I was not in favor of paying Demarco. But that was because I thought his money would go to paying Hardy, Sheard, Hughes. But we've signed not one DL. Hence, this year's panic at the CZ is so much more justified than last year's....

why is it sad? we can still improve through FA and draft and we don't lose the run (because we kept blockers and coaches). Panic if you will but it is unjustified.

It is not panic, it is sadness

It is the realization among rational posters that this team is close and the QB has 2 more years

Right now we have a real chance, waste the next couple of years trying to look smart and we may not be back here for several years

This is the time to make a couple of moves and get over the hump

There is still time however so let's wait and see

I thought last year the cowboys would go 6-10. now this year I think that the cowboys will go 6-10 again because so far these bargin free agents that they have signed so far are worse then the ones that they signed last year and we also lost about 50 percent of our offense that will hard to get back no matter who takes murray place. I am hoping that the draft can change my mind.

Man we're gonna need a lot of salt and pepper to season up this basket of crow being served at the end of the season. No way in God's green earth is a Tony Romo led team gonna get 4-5-6 wins. Absolutely dont believe that for a second. Like i said 10-6 or 11-5.

I like this one from JSTOPPER LAST YEAR.

Lol and yet it did nothing to get the negative nannies to change their tune from last year. Same gloom and doom. Meanwhile I'm going to trust in the FO again and below will have another successful season

I think it's sad because we have a limited window, one of the worst front 7s in the league, and we've sat by and watched young talented pass rushing DL like Sheard and Fairley sign very reasonable contracts, and we've done nothing. We are not going to get a starting DL at 27.

Im guessing they are more interested in sustaining an a ility to compete rather than swinging for the fence now and then disappearing for another 5+ years.

I've been watching the NFL for 40 years and only a handful of times have the teams that make the big free agency splashes actually improved. Now, the draft is a different story.......

No one is saying we need to pull a Philly dream team. But maybe something other than FBs and backup LBers might help a little?

Last year y'all thought you were pretty justified too. Panic is never justified.

A couple other things. We played a 2nd place schedule. Went 10-4 in common games vs Philly's 9-5.

Last year all we heard about was how tough our schedule was going to be too. Who knows how difficult it will be? Btw we beat Suh and McCoy last year. Seattle too ( That darn weak schedule!)

You guys are panicking, quite simply, because that is what you do when things aren't perfect. Simple truth.

I wouldn't call it panic. More like concern. My issue is, they don't seem to be "pushing" for a Super Bowl within Romos window. At least thats my perception.

We got close last year. Why not give the roster some "juice", and make a run for a SB while we still have one of the greatest QBs to play for the Dallas Cowboys?

Instead, it looks like they have committed to clean up contract issues. This upcoming year! And they want me to believe they are shooting for a SB? Hoping, Mcfadden is the answer, or a rookie, or some combination of RBs? Without adding anything, to the defense except "this guy hasn't really done anything, but he has potential".

I realize there has been a change in the way they do business. Moves likes RW, Austin, MBIII, Carr have hurt them. And they have to clean all that up. But, maybe they are a little gun-shy now? Too timid. Scared?

Having said all that. I believe we have a great great Coaching staff now. And coaching and management trumps talent, imho. But, even NE signs guys like Revis every few years.

Its just concern for me. Not panic. My expectations are higher this year, then they were last year. And the only reason I feel that way is because of Romos Window. This team lives and dies, with Romo. No Romo, most likely no playoffs.. And maybe I am putting to much weight on that window??? I guess thats why they play the games:)

i

it's great to have Home field but having too is a built in rage thing

If GB had to come to Dallas, I think we win that game. Built in rage? Nauhhh , thats what the teams are playing for. To make it easier to get to the SB, which is the goal.

Looking at our schedule, our inconsistent (to that point) QB, red consistently mismanaging games, and a defense coming a historically bad season plus losing three of its best players, I thought we would struggle to win six or seven games.
The number one difference last year wasn't Murray, it was a dramatic upgrade in coaching/coaching staff. With mandated and rampant parity, two things are indispensible to success these days, good coaching and great QB play. Our success last year and that of the patriots has proven this.
I hated to lose Murray but i feel certain he will miss us far more than we will miss him.

Someone with some time on their hands should pull up and repost some of the doom and gloom posts about the lack of players Dallas signed and how bad they will be in 2014. 12-4

Most of the doom and gloom posts from last year had to do with the players the Cowboys were losing from the side of the ball where they could ill afford to lose players. The team lost Ware and Hatcher and later their best defensive player Sean Lee to a season ending knee injury before he ever reached training camp. If all that wasn't bad enough they lost Demarcus Lawrence the teams first defensive pick early in camp for the first half of the season. If I had the time I would like to go back and see if you were pumping any sunshine on the situation as all this was happening. Comparing the players we were losing to the players we were signing it didn't look good which is why everyone including those in the media were forecasting a dismal 2014 season. In 2011 Philly assembled what was called a "dream team" by Vince Young with all the additions they made during the offseason and it resulted in an 8-8 season. Washington has signed a number of big name free agents and it's gotten them nowhere.

Signing big names in free agency adds excitement and expectations but it doesn't assure you of having a good season. Some of the low and mid-teir free agents who aren't cashing in on a great season come in hungrier and we saw that last season with players like Jeremy Mincey who outplayed and was more dependable than the Cowboys top defensive free agent signing Henry Melton. A lot of teams get screwed with some of these big names so a lot of times it's better to be frugal in free agency and look to the draft that's where you find your great players. Someone started a thread not ago about how many free agent signings have directly led to SB wins and there hasn't been many. High priced free agents use up cap space which can prevent teams from addressing other needs. It's better to tie up money in the good players you have while being frugal in free agency and hope for a solid draft.

So, now in 2015, in the year of our board, someone faults others hear just because they could not forese de future?
I will be the first and foremost of the poppermost to say I predicted 8-8 or 9-7 because I knew, just knew, our defense would be worse.
Turns out our defense was better and not worst, but it still lacked mush to be desired and we were quickly eliminated from the playoffs, quicker than a Spike Lee movie can open and close.

But, next year, unless we add 3 sterling defensive players -- secondary, middle and on the left DE position, we will end up the same, quick in and quick out of the playoffs. trust me. I am a trained visionary.

Ok, I'll bite. What's a poppermost?

Didn't the Eagles go crazy during the off-season not too long ago and now they're able to do it again? And we haven't done anything in forever.

They replaced their whole secondary in free agency a couple years ago. And they sucked. So they flushed them away again.
