Latest on Nicks

My honest opinion on it?

Spend!

But spend wisely.

This team's window is closing.

Three of their best players are at the pinaccle of their careers and it's all downhill from here.

You let this opportunity pass by and you might not see it for another decade plus, or who knows when.

In fact, it might be 'under new ownership' by the time it happens.

And with Al Davis' passing, I wonder if that mortality factor will weigh any on our chief decisionmaker?

Sign another 30+ year old offensive lineman? No thank you. Now I'm having flashbacks of Marco Rivera blowing his back out on the treadmill.
Scott Wells is 31. Not injury prone. Is an all Pro this year and a top 5 Center. Very intelligent player. GB is gonna do everything to keep this guy. I would absolutely love to have him and get Decastro next to him.

Yeah, I would too.

I think the chances of signing a FA center are much greater than signing a FA guard.

Brees will be the highest paid player in history after this is all done. There is a decent chance Nicks gets to FA (50:50). Personally I would rather save the money for a FA CB since there are a few decent choices. And draft some OL.

Keep an eye on free agent Center Myers from Houston.
Hes a good one also, however I think he will stay. Houston has a really good team.

My personal opinion?

Drew Brees is looking to get paid, and paid extremely well.

His agenda has been clear since before the lockout.

There's a big reason he was front and center during that process and it wasn't for the benefit of his fellow players.

I definitely think that the Saints would like to get Brees' deal done and then franchise tag Nicks.

But I continue to question whether they will actually be able to accomplish it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this. People thought I was crazy for saying that Brees was all about the money during the lockout.

I get the saints are going to resign Brees. But do they really have the funds to tag nicks ??? I'd be very surprised if they kept them both

If a team really wants to keep a player, they'll find a way to do it.

people are hung up on Rivera. Rivera got hurt after we signed him. that's a fluke.

Rivera was not injury prone either. Then he became a Cowboy and thru out his back right away.

Ross Tucker on Sirius this morning flat out said that the Texans would tag Myers if they had to. They realize just how important keeping a Top O line intact is.

i like this plan
sign wells
draft decastro or grubbs

Until Brees signs and they Franchise Nicks, I will continue to want him here.

That's my feeling on it as well.

If we can't get Nicks I'm certainly not going to be upset if we wind up with Grubbs either. I'd quite happily take him as a Dallas Cowboy as well.

OT, didn't he hurt it via a treadmill?

:banghead:

I would rather see the Cowboys go after Nicks first, but wouldn't mind Wells as a plan B. Just don't give him a deal over 3 years.

Alex was predicting a meltdown if its going on the third week of march and we haven't made any big splashes. If we resign Spencer in that frame and do nothing else it will be worth it to come here to just see stash have one of his epic meltdowns.

No it wouldn't.

This place can be close to unbearable as it is during good days in the offseason. The last thing we need is crap like that causing people to be more ridiculous than they already are about things.

A good, solid, center from FA and then DeCastro in the draft wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least.

About any of can say is that the interior line is going to be addressed in free agency and the draft. It seems to be almost a fore gone conclusion at this point.

The only questions are which positions and who the targets are and how much is Jerry willing to spend.

I think Dallas will address interior line and CB in free agency but probably not with the players we want. :p:

Nicks is high on my priority but I have a feeling Dallas will wait until the smoke has cleared and shop for bargains. :(

and that would be smart move. They still have Nagy coming back. You take another offensive lineman this year. I still think Nagy will be fine and Tyron Smith looked very good. I am not so sure Dallas needs to throw tier 1 money at guard.

Nagy is a 7th round pick and nothing should be set in stone because of Nagy. Heck, his roster position shouldn't even be safe, but not addressing one of the guard spots because we have Nagy is a recipe for disaster.
