Lawrence contract update

We’ll get it done. He’s a leader on the defense. He’s made guys around him better and believe. Gonna be a busy offseason

I mean it's not like he has not been top 10 in sacks the last 2 seasons......no wait
He wasn't even top 15 in sacks last year and was tied with a handful of people for fringe top 20.

I love Lawrence but lets not exaggerate his stats, that how you end up overpaying players

I pretty sure he there are only 5 players with more sacks than Tank the last 2 seasons.

Eh, kinda is. Contracts keep going up every year. He’s a proven, homegrown, commodity. He is our only war daddy. Can not afford to let the leader of the defense walk by going cheap.

Can't afford to pay a guy like he's the best at his position just because he's the best we have at that position, either.

I don't know what a "war daddy" is but Lawrence talked trash before the Rams game then had no impact on the outcome. They ran all over us and he never so much as got a whiff of Goff's cologne.

As much as Lawrence has been good, we are seeing a star born in Gregory. Yes he has had issues, but it seems like he's put that behind him. The guy was just a notch before Lawrence production in half the snaps after being out of the nfl for almost 2 yrs.
Strange considering the news of the day.

(Not poking fun at you...just the news. Gregory may be done).

they better sign him now that Gregory is gone for good
no, that's a kneejerk reaction. I would let Lawrence walk (too expensive), cut Gregory, let Irving go for good, and rework or cut Crawford due to money. Rebuild the DL from scratch and win football games with an elite back-7 including Earl Thomas.

Eh, kinda isn't. He's not one of the best pass rushers in the league. He's very good. He's not great. He will under perform his next contract.

It won't be a disaster like the upcoming Prescott debacle but it will still be a problem.

I'd tag him and look to replace him next year. If he wants to hold out, go for it. Waste a year of your prime.

Ehh what’s another 8-8 season...
We aren’t the patriots and we don’t have Brady and/or Belichick (or anything close). This long game approach most of this board seems to want to take is going to result in another 2 decades of losing. There isn’t enough talent on this team as is, going cheap and trying to replace what talent we do have will result in perpetually rebuilding the roster.

This is a win now league, building something for long term success is a pipe dream.

If D-Law decides he wants to be a total knob and hold the entire franchise hostage all because of the Gregory situation, then I say let him walk; I'm serious as a heart attack..

We CANNOT let our current circumstance force a mistake that'll haunt the WHOLE team for the next decade for a player that isn't even elite...

I'm a diehard BSU fan, but Tank isn't freaking Reggie White.. He's not even close to D-Ware or even Sir Charles... Can't be making terrible mistakes while in panic mode, but you know that's exactly what we'll do....

Ugh...

What do you think the Pats would do??? We all know what they do in these situations...

If he walks, we'd definitely get a great comp pick for him, and we'd have a ton of cash to spread around on a few really good players that would probably help out significantly...

Seems like Lawrence is totally aware that he's holding a big stick at this juncture.
We can likely fully expect that he'll be holding out for a boatload of riches. :omg:

I'm beginning to wonder if it could be best to trade him for a #1 pick to draft a DE.

He is one of the best rushers in the league, and a lot of Cowboys homers are ignoring the fact that he still needed to be double teamed even with the injury.

Comp picks don't start until the third round. The only way I see the Cowboys splitting with Lawrence is to franchise him again and then trade his rights for a first round pick; maybe even a pick and a player.

The problem with that is it leaves our DE situation dire. Tyrone Crawford and Taco Charlton would be the starters and Dorance Armstrong the top backup. That means Dallas would have to use their first round pick they acquire in the Lawrence trade at the position anyway; and that player would be unproven.
