Lawrence: Daily Battles With Smith Will Eventually Pay Off

yes but they wanted a 2nd + 3rd thats why the Browns didnt accept

No we had a deal and when we were on the clock the Brown tried to revise it. We didn't like the new terms and with the clock running down we made the pick.

Let's chat at the end of the season and we will see if it was my gospel or just the gospel. You are in dream land if you think this team can compete for a super bowl this year.

Predicting a team will be bad.... How brave of you.

I'm sure you had the Super Bowl teams picked out preseason and saw the seahawk dominance.

As an aside....what are this weekend's lottery numbers?

Ok, I'm going to go ahead and put you on ignore now so I won't have to see any more of your posts. No offense, my time is just limited.

You just said that sound logic would not be prohibited because of your 'realism.' Your actions here prove the lie in that.

He is not trolling you. The outlook that people had last year relative to actual performance is sound logic. We were not remotely preseason favorites and you know this.

What it sounds like to me is that you are completely emotional. You get upset when they don't win so you badmouth the team and it's chances. Then the season gets started and you get excited, lose sight of what you thought going in and think that because they won a few games that means they are going to go all the way.

Instead they were middle of the pack whereas preseason prognosticators almost universally had us there or even worse.

I think he can show why he is worth 2 draft picks. And will surprise some people that were against this.
I'm still not even sure at this point, until we see actual play, but have a good feeling about this [which means nothing to anyone but myself].

No problems.

I just want him to at least get 6 sacks this year.

Then I feel he has replaced Ware's production.

If we get more..

..then the talk will turn to what a BARGAIN he was were we got him witthout having to spend a #1 to get him.

Hahahahaaaaa

I have no illusions of going to the Superbowl this year. The chances are great that we won't. You are taking that chance and selling it as gospel. We do, in fact, have a chance to compete for the Superbowl, if making the playoffs is considered competing. The difference between you and me, is I am not trying to sell my OPINION as gospel.

My "opinion" on the matter is gospel, you just haven't accepted yet.

It is gospel, you just don't realize it. You think this team can compete for a super bowl.. seriously?

Predictions are never gospel (fact), but the probably of contending for a Super Bowl is very low for the Cowboys this season.

Obviously, teams have to have the mindset that they can win; however, I think at the GM level they have to be realistic about their chances going into each season. The Cowboys appear to finally have taken the realistic approach this off-season with the release of Ware and not re-signing Hatcher.

The biggest overall problem for the Cowboys, IMO, has been that they were unwilling to approach some seasons as being a low probability of contending.

IMO, any team that does not make the playoffs should assume that they are a year away from contending. That approach would have saved the Cowboys from moves like Franchising Spencer.

They made "some" good decisions and some bad decisions. The release of Ware and not resigning Hatcher were GREAT decisions. Giving up a 3rd rounder in the draft to hurry up and fill the rde position, was ignorant and shortsighted on a team that is far away from competing and full of holes. I guess you could say in the past they would have kept Ware and kept Hatcher along with giving up the 3rd rounder. So there is some silver lining.

Quite frankly, most DE's should end up developing pretty well against a beast like Smith..

But I like Lawrence regardless!

Most people didn't like the 2013 trade that netted Frederick and Williams but that turned out OK.

I don't really think that the trade to get Lawrence was done with a win-now mindset. I think they just really really liked the player.

I'm generally against trading away picks, but if Marinelli and the scouting dept. were all enamored with Lawrence, then I'm OK with it. When I look back at the 2009 draft, they would have been better off trading all of their picks to move up and be certain that they got the player that really wanted (Max Unger).

I'm pretty convinced that losing out on Unger by sitting there and waiting has fueled the trading up we have seen since then from Jerry.

Because he probably would have been BPA and it would have solidified our oline for a decade. And then we could put most of our focus on fixing the dline next. Instead of reaching and losing picks on a team that isn't going anywhere anyway.

Would you have preferred us not take BPA in the first round in Martin and instead reach for a defensive player at 16 just because our defense sucked last year?

You pick for the future when your team cant compete...

with Martin in the 1st and Leary not having a terrible year (I expect he will get better this year) I don't have an issue with not taking Turner and drafting DL.
