Lawrence's work ethic

There is no doubt that Lawrence is a player you want to pay and retain. The question is at what price? At some point the risk vs reward is too great.

There is no doubt that if this defense continues to play at a high level then Tank will get paid because Jerry is not going to break up that band. If the team was playing like it did earlier this year then I felt like we would move on from him in a trade.

Caveat: If we can get a first and a 3rd for Lawrence they may let him walk because of their confidence in drafting ability and this class is supposedly loaded with great DL players.

Id pay him whatever the going rate for a top 5 DE

Hes the leader of this defense and brings that attitude weve been missing on that side of the ball for ages

He hasn’t faces a suspension or major injury so I think the FO would regret letting D-Law walk.

You can't trade him
He'll be paid to stay and he's earned it

New contract should have been waiting for him Thursday night in his locker.

He's franchised, we can't pay him till after the season, it would be my highest priority, with a new contract for Amari Cooper right behind.

Yeah you could. He probably won't be. Teams would want him.

"Can't trade" in the context I used it in means "no one in their right mind should". It did not mean "there will be no market for him"

I hope this makes it more clear

Again, it depends on what Lawrence's contract demands are. If it's within reason, then yes it is pretty much a foregone conclusion he will be signed.

On the other hand the salary cap is a limitation so if his salary demands get high enough you have to consider other options. You can't discount the fact that he may want more than it is beneficial for the team to pay.

$20 million a year is my ceiling.

Lawrence definitely deserves his payday. He is going to be, at minimum, a 10 sack a year, every year, + beast in the run game type of guy for the next 7 years. Those are the types of players that win you Super Bowls.

I can’t see us letting him go. He’ll get paid and he deserves it.
