LB A. Pierce comment on Dallas rb

because he only averages 8 carries per game means he is not dependable? come on... the number of carries has NOTHING to do with dependability. He is a situational RB. He is a dagger. He is a closer.

The argument was the JJ received "rest" because he wasn't dependable. The argument cuts both ways.

I wouldn't say JuJo is not dependable. He's just nothing special (no one can argue that).

I think, overall, the production is best with the lineup the way it is now, both backs about 50/50 in carries with MB3 getting the critical carries.

If we get one of the top backs in the draft next year, our offense will be even better. And that's scary.

Yeah. Everyone agrees.

Except for the guys who work most closely with the two RBs -- the coaches.

That's right and that's why JJ is the starter and will be. What JJ does [or don't do] is the reason MB can do what he does. It's how he is effective the way he is. He comes in fresh, new energy. Put MB as the starter and his running style....how long do oyu think he wil last. And not just for the game, but long term, game after game.

It's working fine, it's not broke, don't tinker with it. Or else it will be.
Not saying JJ's our long term RB, but MB won't be the starter either.

I could see Julius losing the ball when tired more than I can Barber.

Actually, on sunday night Julius got those carries.

And he promptly ran out of bounds.

I've seen a couple people comment negatively on that run and I think JJ did the right thing.

First, he didn't run out of bounds. Yes, he broke the run outside but he still tried to stay in bounds. The tackler took him out as I recall.

Second and more importantly. I was begging Garrett to stay aggressive on that series. Which unit did you want to put the game in the hands of when the Giants closed to within 3 points? Clue: Check the league rankings of our respective offensive and defensive units for the answer.

Of course Garrett wanted to run time off so he kept it on the ground for downs 1 & 2. But he also knew that getting a 1st down, and more, was ultimately the higher priority which is why he threw on 3rd down.

We needed to keep the ball or score more than run time off the clock and rely on our defense. For that reason, I was cheering Julius decision to go for the yardage even if it risked stopping the clock.

Neither fumble much -- both fumbled on 1.1% of their total carries.

Julius' fumbles break out like this -- 8 career.

Carries 1-5 - 1
Carries 6-10 - 4
Carries 11-15 - 2
Carries 16-20 - 1
Carries 20+ - 0

He actually fumbles less when he's tired.

This makes the most sense to me too.

A few more carries would be nice... but to me... not a necessity... he has QUALITY carries that get results... I will take that over quantity any day.

When McFadden comes in... I say keep a similiar 2 headed RB monster attack.

I think if Barber continue to perform this staff will give him more oppertunities. To me that only makes sense to reward players with more time when they prove they can do the job.

And the guy who you claim is better...
No, I said we've found an equlibrium.

Although Barber is obviously running better right now, I don't claim either one of them to be the "better" back. "Better" based on what? The last game? Career? You are the one who insists that the coaches have decided that one of the backs is better than the other, and that it must be the one with the current edge in carries.

Assuming we keep only one of them next year, in deciding which one to keep, I guarantee you that the scrutiny won't stop at who had the most carries.

David. I'm just as happy as you are with 45 points. Now that we're over that let's really look at it.

If we had notched 45 points against the Ravens defense then I might see more room for eternal optimism. It was the freaking Giants D for goodness sake. It's totally obvious to me that our offense is better with Barber on the field. It's a marathon not a track meet and I want to look up 15 more miles or so down the road and see a team headed for the Super Bowl. Ask yourself this... How confident would you be in the 45 point spot going forward if MB3 were not on this team? I'm not into beating JJ into the ground. The guy is a good RB. However, the bottom line is we're a better, more dangerous offense, with MB3 getting the bulk of the carries.

Was I the only one that noticed JJ was tiptoeing through the tulips up until MB3 busted that nasty run to the right for the score on 4th and 1. Then out of nowhere on the very next series JJ was running with more authority... We should be thankful, at the very least, that MB3 is here to push JJ. I am of the opinion that MB3 needs no motivation to do what he does. JMO

I gotta be sick, this is the second time this season we have agreed. This was a very good post. Say some thing about owens so we can get normal.;)

this irrelevant thread is still going?

Yessir. Thanks to both you and I. ;) It's very relevant. You'll see as the season progresses. Marion Barber will continue to get the "most important" carries while complimented by Mr. Change Of Pace.
