LB - Anae & some other DL likely play both DE and LB

One thing for sure for me....I love the newness and change and or adjustments of formulas/schemes. I mean good gawd...Clapper and the old man of the D were about to drive me away from my DBoyz but I have been born again. I love big Mikes close to the vest take on chit! Renewal is an awesome thing!!

i don't even seeing Armstrong coming off the bench,as Aldon and Anae will be the 3rd and 4th reserve-rotation ends
in fact i would not be surprised if he is made inactive game day ..up until Gregory is due to game active and eligible
Armstrong is essentially just reserving his spot for Gregory's inevitable return.

Makes me think Armstrong would be a good 34DE or Greggory, could be that Kyle Wilber tweeter and Watt would have been perfect for that. That is how he’s going to get 3 or 4 DEs on the field

i'm going with personnel guys i feel will be most effective, most explosive, most versatile off the edge ...whether 4-3 or 3-4..

Hasn't come close to what the team had highly hoped for him when they drafted him in 4th rd. the way the raves and reviwes has been
talked about with rookie Bradlee Anae, the same should have been talked about with Armstrong. And he's been in the league for a couple of years
now. And still hasn't stood out in the least sense.

i don't expect DLaw to be as comfortable with standing in 3-4 OLB as he does with his hand in the ground in the 3 point stance as the 4-3 DE , but it may be
rememberance of Greg Eliis, who actually had his highest sack total when he was a 3-4 OLB in Wade Philips 3-4 scheme.

2) Aldon
3) Griffen
4) Gregory
5) Anae
6) Armstrong (I agree more of a jag, but reportedly has had a tremendous camp)

We could also add Crawford who is more of a run stuffer, but could see some reps at DE.

This group could be very special!

Yeah, I know we’ve all heard that Dallas I tends in playing a hybrid defense, but..

The 5 LBers and heavy at DE signals to me McCarthy/Nolan plan on playing more 3-4 and a non traditional 4-3 defense. Which btw.. I’m good with.

Until you have to stop the run, teams are still gonna test us if we can do that first.

Maybe that's why they're keeping fewer LBs. Going more 3-4, converting DEs to OLBs.

Yeah that and playing nickel 80% of the game.

Isn't it time to name Nickel (4-2-5) "base defense" instead of a sub-package?

A true 4-3 defense is keeping at least 6 LBs, DAL has 5. Overall, I like the front seven...now stack some more guys on the PS.

It's not really internet flaming in this case. It's just being emotionally hurt by the fact the previous staff isn't here. Duncan continues to struggle with the reality that guys like Richard couldn't cut it here and got fired.

D-Coordinator runs a multiple front (hybrid of 4-3 and 3-4).

Many snaps with more than 2 LBs will likely be with DE types playing as the 3rd and 4th LB.

In the modern era, the base defense (alignment with the most snaps played) for most teams is the 4-2-5 Nickel.

Nolan has historically used a 3-4 for run defense.

Defining the LB/DE as hybrid and LB as a 4-3 type LB:

• From Max Run Defense to Max Pass Defense
  • 4 DL, 1 hybrid, 2 LB (basically a 5-2)
  • 3 DL, 2 hybrid, 2 LB (basically a 3-4)
  • 3 DL, 1 hybrid, 3 LB (sometimes used this vs 3 WR sets)
  • 4 DL, 2 LB, 5 DB (Nickel defense)
  • 4 DL, 1 LB, 6 DB (Dime Defense)

In the 3 DL, 2 hybrid, 2 LB sets in 2014 the 2nd hybrid was sometimes 6-4, 276 M.Goodman and sometimes 6-2, 265 J.Massaquoi.

He sometimes used the 3 DL, 1 hybrid, 3 LB set against 3 WR offensive sets.
- i.e. The extra stand-up player added an extra coverage options over the 4-3 but provided better run defense than the 4-2-5.

The inactive backup is still important considering the risks with this group of players.

Griffen: Age 32
Aldon Smith: Injury risk due to being out of football. Also a relapse risk.
Gregory: Relapse risk.

from what i've heard from those such as Peyton Manning, it is not the pass rush that makes the 3-4 edges so formidable but more so
how these edge rushers can line up to look like they are rushing .and then peel off in passing lanes at the snap of the ball. From either side.
Not certain whose coming in n a pass rush ..or whose dropping back in coverage passing lanes.
That's instant confusion and frustration to QBs in a blink.
