Intresting. but there is no way Keith " the shark" rivers would drop to us that far. the guy will be the 1st LB taken. besids we already got plenty of LB's

Here's a quick analysis on him. (free info from nfldraftcountdown.com)

Keith Rivers
Height: 6-21/4 | Weight: 241 | 40-Time: 4.60

Official Bio

Strengths:
Excellent athleticism...Great speed with a burst to close...Quick and agile...Terrific range and makes plays sideline-to-sideline...Does a fantastic job in pursuit...Good frame with long arms...Motor runs non-stop and he is really active...Fluid and does a terrific job in coverage...A big hitter who can lay the lumber...Decent pass rusher and blitzer...Aggressive and plays with an attitude...Works through the trash and traffic well..Good instincts and recognition...Offers some versatility..A hard worker.

Weaknesses:
Could stand to add some weight...Needs to get stronger..More of a finesse player and is not overly physical...Plays out of control at times...Doesn't take on or shed blockers all that well...Is not stout and can be run at...Needs to keep his pad level down...A playmaker in coverage?..Goes for the knockout rather than wrapping up.

Notes:
A elite recruit coming out of high school...Wore the #55 jersey for the Trojans that was made famous by guys like Junior Seau, Willie McGinest and Chris Claiborne...A outstanding all-around linebacker who shouldn't ever have to leave the field...Has an ideal blend of natural talent, physical tools, and intangibles...Prototypical WILL.

Yhea, I don't think he falls to 22 anyway.

Maybe the Cowboys are speculating on who they think has the best shot to fall of the players that they like?

Yeah i think that's what it basically is.. If rivers would to fall to us which i said i dount, do we take him over a CB??

I think if we have Rivers as a top 10-12 pick, and he falls to 22, you've got to seriously consider it, esp. if he is ranked significantly higher than any other player on your board. I guess we could trade the pick, but Z Thomas is probably only playing 1 more year, and I don't think Adoyele is the answer. And as for Carpenter, I'm not sure he's the answer either.

And isn't this Burnett's final year before he's a FA? Not sure on that.

But interestingly, we're also bring in another ILB prospect, Beau Bell, to Valley Ranch. I guess the position is still a question mark for the coaching staff.

Maybe they are truly intending on trading Adoyele this off-season?

Good analysis.

We all get hung up on the Big 3 -- RB, WR, CB -- but I think it's smart to not rule out the other positions. You never know what blue-chipper will slide on draft day.

And like you said, Dallas' LB situation isn't exactly stable, especially when you look a year or two down the road.

he was an OLB in a 4-3 defense at usc

Dunno. I guess its obvious to me that we are probably looking at him as an ILB.

Carp was a 4-3 OLB and is now at ILB. Ayodele was a 4-3 OLB in Jax and is an ILB.

Then, you look at Ware, Spencer as our OLBs of the future, with Ellis already in the rotation/starting.

And then you look at our ILB currently.... And it seems to me that we'd be looking at him as an ILB.

So you are saying we are looking at him as an ILB? I just want to get that straight. ;)

I agree. I think they tag him as ILB if he falls to us.

just want we DONT need.......another lb.

I don't understand this at all?

Maybe the Cowboys want to trade Adoyele? Z Thomas has 1 year left (hopefully he can play out this year), and Carp is still an enigma. And Burnett is also going to be a FA in 2009 I think.

This is the 2nd ILB we're bringing into Valley Ranch, so they are possibly wanting to upgrade/inject youth into the position.

i agree we'd be looking at him to play ILB but than again we already had a swing and miss trying the same thing with carp.

I really thought Carp was going to be a very solid player for us when we drafted him. Maybe he still will. He's got to show it this year though.

Yeah, but you can't base the miss on Carpenter and use it to scare you away from drafting that position again, if you need it.

Look at how many pass rushers we burned through: Carver, Pittman, Ekuban, Ellis to some extent......before we landed Ware.

Carpenter may go down as a miss. But if you think the guy can play, you don't avoid taking him because you missed before. Or you miss out on a guy like Ware.

Now *that* is interesting. Rivers is a stud.

Everyone thinks we're going CB, WR, or RB in the first... But I have a feeling we're going to get a curve ball like this.

Which, BTW, I love. We need the best players we can get, and if that's an excellent LB or guard or safety, so be it.

I thought as soon as Wade came in that he'd want more "traditional" LBs who can run all over the field rather than the big slow thumpers that Parcells preferred.
