LB Keith Smith re-signed to practice squad; Obada released

They keep playing around with Obada. Good thing is I don't think other teams find him intriguing like the Boys so he should be available.

I'm expecting some news about the open roster spot.

Bishop, Smith, Dunbar out
Hardy, RoMc in

My uneducated guess on the open roster spot is that they are going to bring up Edwards from the PS. However, they are currently searching other PS's around the league for possible candidates. Since Edwards is already practicing, no need to activate him to the 53 yet while they are still looking around.

Efe is two years away from being two years away.

He might finally get all the pieces to fall in place for him, but he might be 30 once that time has come.

Don't know why we would bring up Edwards with Hardy returning. It seems to me that what we are short on is 1-techs. Cutting Bishop only leaves us with Hayden.

You would think that, with the injury to Butler, the FO might want to promote Mayle or Rodney Smith from the practice squad and use that open roster spot. I guess they must be feeling Lucky (so to speak).

I think they intend to use Hardy inside this week some. With the amount that the Pats pass, and the fact that they dont have an overpowering run blocking O line, I think the coaches think a rotation of Crawford, Hayden, J. Crawford, Irving, and Hardy is enough.

With only 3 healthy WR I would think Dallas will be looking to bring up a WR off practice squad right now. Have not heard the status on Brice other than he does not feel he will be out long.

the cowboys web site says they are going to promote edwards

Yeah, saw that. Which makes the releasing of Obada a bit of a head scratcher. If they bring up Edwards, that just re-opens the spot for Obada ?
Unless they are planning to pinch someone else off another practice squad.

Maybe bring Bishop back on the PS. If they activate Edwards.
Not sure why taking so long putting Dunbar officially on IR.

Unless as you said, looking at other options from other teams. Or they just are trying to find the right thing to do.
Bring in a player, rather a WR, or even a RB, activate Edwards, and could be waiting to see how Butler does, if he practices today.

But with a bye week, does it matter, as a new player may be inactive anyway, so they can look to make this move after the game Sunday.

Here's another thing that I am struggling to understand. If they bring up Edwards as is expected - Isn't he another DE ?
I get Marineli's "Rushman" concept, but come on .... Saw that the backup 1-tech's are Jack Crawford and the new guy signed last week. Both DE's and also the backup 3-tech's are both DE's. So, on the active roster we have one 1-tech, and one 3-tech, and a bunch of DE's.
That may work on nickel packages, but is also why we are getting gouged in the run game. We have no big run pluggers apart from Hayden who is playing way too many snaps as it is. We are too light inside, these guys are big men but not DT big.
You get a 270 - 280pound DE playing inside against 310 - 320 pound guards and centers, no wonder we are losing this battle.
This I feel is the FO's fundamental flaw, why several of us have been calling for a DT for 3 straight drafts now, only to be told that they don't value the position. Well, this is the net result of that flaw, and why I badly wanted Malcom Brown this last draft, who fell to us by the way.
DE's can play well inside at times, and yes can "rush" the QB in miss-match's. But they are the mismatch when a team decides to pound the rock on us.

I know its an old debate, but I still have yet to have ANYBODY explain this to me to make me go - oh ok I get it now. The common answer of they just don't value the position - is old, and just plain dumb !
(Can make the same argument for the FS position, but will save that for another thread).....

Jack Crawford is bigger than Tyrone Crawford. He bulked to play DT but has been forced to play significant snaps at DT. He is too big at DE now and they need to get him to DT.

Not only have they had to use him at DE but they've also used LBs Wilber and Wilson (6', 240) at DE.

A lot of the run defense problems were not because the DTs were getting pushed around but more about players making mistakes.

This is what I feel.

I get that, but the Cowboys.com has T.Crawford at 285 and J.Crawford at 288. (For tackles)..... Our smallest O-line man is Martin at 310, Frederick at 315, Smith and Leary at 320 and Free at 325. Hell Hayden is the biggest D-lineman at 303. So they are giving away at least 20-30 pounds per man ! And I would imagine other teams have bigger O-linemen then we do. When you write it down, it's easier to see.
I know you watch a lot of film so sure your right about players making mistakes, but also just by giving away so much size - can see why second half of games they are worn out.
So, again - not hard to see why we are failing to stop the run.
Guess we will see what we could of had when we go up against Brown this weekend.
