Drafted by Cowboys LB Shemar James Florida

One of the more bizarre sports stories that I've witnessed.
I'd definitely read the book on the inside story of it all if one is ever written.
Yes. I really hope they do a 30 for 30 on this and the true story comes out. Like you said it’s bizarre. Very very bizarre a round one prospect drops to 5th round without any arrests, drug problems, or significant injuries or off the field scandals. Especially at the QB position we’re lower round QBs are drafted higher so teams can secure their rights. One of the most talented players in the draft at the most important position dropped to round 5Very strange and baffling. I would love to know the inside story of what happened.
Did you see that quote from some exec, or insider of some kind that said Shedur's interview they did with him was the worst he had ever seen. Maybe teams simply didnt think he was a guy they wanted. If he didnt start, daddy Deion would be ut there talking crap.
yes. I did see that. It kind of makes you wonder if Sheduer presented himself as Johnny Manziel 2.0. A rich, spoiled prima Donna who rubbed everyone the wrong way. Add in that Deion would have been a problem as Deion has controlled his football career up until now.

So yes I listened to a bunch of clips and interviews were GMs were saying talking to Sheduer was “one of the worst interviews ever” and comments like that. I still think in the 5th round you draft him and he sits behind Dak and learns. If Daddy Deion doesn’t like that then why couldn’t Jerry, or any other owner, tell Deion to shut up. Unless the Cowboys come out and say Sheduer is a team cancer and doesn’t fit with what we want to do from a culture standpoint then we should have taken him. My opinion is a 5th round pick can be used on a spoiled brat if he has the talent and needs to be humbled. It’s worth the risk.

Or there’s another possibility is he sucks and he’s a product of being Deion’s son and teams don’t think he is a top QB or will develop into a franchise guy. Screw his attitude, there’s a real possibility that his talent level doesn’t match the hype because the hype was generated by Deion. So we’ll see the next couple years what happens and how it shakes it. I still wish we drafted him because I was stuck on him and I’m wondering if he’s being punished for being Deion’s son, or he sucks, or he’s not talented. Time will tell. I do feel better that we got Milton prior to the draft so we have a guy that would play Sander’s role on the team as far as sitting and learning. So it’s not a total loss. But I think if he’s a 1st round talent in the 5th round then you pull the trigger. So a lot to think about with this. Curious how it will play out.

Totally agree.

And drafting Sanders, who isn’t very good, would have been a great pick? Yeah, ok
Great pick? Nope but the value was there over anyone else. All I was saying is if you are going to give away draft picks for a special teamer…..use it on a QB like Sanders.

So you ask what is the worst that could happen.

Did you follow the last 20 years?

That is what happens when you have bad picks, make bad decissions, make bad signings.
exactly and we arent going anywhere, so he cant do damage to Chernobyl

no harm in drafting him

Wierd profile. 220 lb LB with inconsistent vision, ran a 4.7 but supposedly excels in coverage...

Can someone point me to the story in this player. Obviously the team wanted the player badly to move up to take him. It’s seems like a real outlier to the rest of our draft class in how he was picked etc.

I don’t care anything about discussing other players. Why did the Cowboys move up to take this player and what is the rationale behind it?

I absolutely do not understand they could have just stood pat and picked Isaiah Bond and it would have at least got us a need with a guy who should have went much higher
Because Bond may spend next season in prison.

Is it likely? Probably not.

Is it possible. Yep.

Do teams want to deal with a trial during training camp? Hell no.

His story is pretty terrible. Is he even through the legal ramifications?

For me he had too many red flags not related to talent on the field.

I wouldn’t want to be the first to see if he is coachable by someone other than his dad who has been his coach literally his entire life.

One executive indicated Shedeur suggested he didn’t feel like he had anything to work on. Another said he was arrogant and would make you feel small…the worst interview ever and numerous others expressed concerns.

He had a history of blaming his teammates in college. He seems more interested in being a celebrity and launching his signature Legendary logo for the draft. He does stupid trick plays during his pro day.

He has a helicopter dad who is going to regularly question how he is being used, which the media will exacerbate because it’s a story that sells. And IMO, there is no way he is going to sit quietly for 2-3 years as a backup in Dallas while he and Dion bite their lip. Look at what Dion did in the lead up to the draft…fighting with critics and Joe Flacco and listing teams he would and wouldn’t play for.

I feel bad for him because growing up with Dion as your dad couldn’t be easy. Maybe he matures…maybe not. But as it stands today, he is the antithesis of what I would want in an NFL starting quarterback. Maybe his dad got away with it when he was drafted but times are different and Shedeur is a QB. I just wouldn’t risk the headache for a QB whose ceiling is an average NFL QB if everything goes right.

Just my opinion.

I agree with all your points. I feel like with helicopter Dad around it wouldn’t have been good. I also agree that he, nor his dad, would accept the Jordan Love route. Also I was looking more into his accuracy may be misleading. He took a lot of short passes and behind the LOS passes. His stats were padded. Also I’m not a fan of any athlete saying they don’t have anything to work on. So there’s some red flags. Or maybe it’s copium on my part cuz I was stuck on him. He’s either going to be a franchise QB or Johnny Manziel 2.0. Since Cleveland drafted he’s already in the Johnny path. But I’ll be rooting for him as long as he doesn’t play against us.

There was a report that a scam caller called him and said he was drafted. Who does that kind of crap? Why? For that reason I’ll be rooting for him to succeed as long as he doesn’t beat us. He didn’t deserve to be done like that. He may deserve to fall in the draft but to be trolled and clowned like that is ridiculous. JMO.

Overall I think you’re right. Just a bizarre story I hope they do a documentary on it in the future.

Look when I say things happen like I don't know was it was Rashee Rice nothing goes on how many indictments possibly could have had deshawn Watson and what did they do over in Cleveland not only give all those draft picks for him knowing he was going to be on the exempt list knowing he could probably be arrested they had them $250 million guaranteed that is sports if you have the talent they usually take a chance on you that's all I'm saying...

Seems like nothing happening with rice or Watson and there's more I can't even go over all the alleged accusations and whatnot that happened with people accusing you of things that you may not have done and now you have to defend yourself we get it he may have done some of this we don't know but what I remember Big Ben Roethlisberger being accused of something very similar pretty serious and it didn't hurt his career any same thing with Lewis the linebacker in a conspiracy like a murder conspiracy like he was going to cover up AA murder he knew happened and witnessed of a group of friends I mean come on did it hurt his career..

All I'm saying is you give a guy like this a chance you put him on a short leash his contract is has zero guarantees as long as he gets himself in a program therapy anger management and that this legal issue goes away and he doesn't spend time in jail you can put a lot of that in a contract you can give a guy a second chance you can help him he's a good talent that would be worth trying for..

I mean didn't some of you guys when we we heard all of what happened with was it Calvin Joseph who recently was in a car and his friends shot up people in the parking lot and everyone immediately said that Joseph was going to be in trouble or it was somebody on our team and and nothing ever came of it it was untrue he had nothing to do with it he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I mean this happened so often that I forget all the stories because in sports there's so many of them i'm just saying maybe this kids worth a look...

That’s all true from an objective point of view when all that is considered is what happens on the field.

I just think it’s obvious that the entire league was concerned enough to leave a top 100 player, and maybe a top 10 receiver completely ignored.

That’s real. It reflects the option of 32 NFL GMs, coaching and scouting staffs.

As a fan, even setting aside the entire industries view of things, we can decide if that’s what we want on our team.

I wouldn’t have wanted Roethlesberger on the Cowboys. Lots of Steelers fans felt the same.

I also am absolutely not a fan of Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, Tyreek Hill, Deshaun Watson, etc., and I wouldn’t want any of them on my team either.

But, for every fan like me, there is another who doesn’t care about anything off the field and can fully embrace a player strictly for how they produce on Sunday.

I can understand someone battling alcohol or drug abuse, but violence is just something I can get down with. It’s sometimes hard, because I want my team to win, but not having to worry about those issues of character, lets me breathe more easily as a fan.

Yea I think that call was in one of the posts on this site. And I agree it was classless but unfortunately, that’s where we are in society today. Many people hate what the can’t be.

I watched a lot of Colorado last year and am a fan of Shedeur. I find his dad entertaining as well but IMO, he did his son more damage than good. If I were Shedeur, I would reconsider the adults who are advising me moving forward. He is a kid who grew up with Dion as his role model and hero and unfortunately that role model may be living out his second NFL career through his son and doing damage in the process.

I think he will be fine but ultimately it’s up to him. He has the talent but needs to be honest with himself about what caused his drop and show he has the self awareness and ability to change. Own it whether you believe it’s deserved or not and don’t blame others or some tin foil conspiracy. Fortunately for him, the NFL can be very forgiving if you have talent and he is talented. Just be humble, embrace the criticism, and use it as a growth opportunity.

@blueblood70 …it’s not really worth getting upset over. Every team has to consider their image, optics, and legal ramifications and this is a pretty serious allegation. I actually prefer when teams demonstrate values over performance.

I’m sure Dallas really wants Bond and maybe he will end up on the team. I also assume teams have a deeper understanding of the situation and some are doing their due diligence.

As you said, it is not uncommon for players to get in trouble. When the player is on a team, the team usually goes into PR mode until more information is available and make decisions accordingly. When a player is not on the team, you have a completely different set of optics and legal dynamics you have to consider.

Mike Green is another example of a player this draft who saw his stock fall due to allegations. The difference is that Green’s allegations were from 2022 and he was never questioned or charged. In the Bond case, the allegations happened at the beginning of this month, he was arrested ~2 weeks ago, and the case is active.

He deserves the presumption of innocence and to defend himself. If he is innocent or the charges dropped, he will get snapped up in a heartbeat. As more is learned, some team may choose to accept the risk and sign him. But this is a weeks old case with serious allegations and IMO, no team with an ounce of common sense is going to take on this situation at this point in the case.
