LBs and Lack of Splash Plays

That’s fine.. NFL teams agree with me even if you don’t. Heck Jerry just told you that position doesn’t hold as much value.

lol yeah keep believing that Jr. GM. lol Much of team drafts are predicated on need even though we love saying BPA. 3 QB taking in the 1st 3 picks and yet really none I would even consider best BPA outside of Lawrence. Don't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back lol

Teams draft positions of need that hold the most value.

Which is why Parsons was number 1 on our board but they wanted Horn or Surtain, Jr.

To me stuffing a run play or tackle for loss or no gain is a splash play. Don’t have to be a sack. Or pick or forced fumble.

Again Dallas had major issues at CB outside of Diggs Dallas had little which is why they became top priority does not change the fact that Parson was rated the top prospect on defense. Only thing hurting him was he opted out, so you are drafting a player who had not seen any action since the 2019 season

Sturm labels that as a splash play fwiw.

Same as drawing a holding penalty or QB pressure that ends in a throw away/bad pass.

Jerry just told you about the position value of Linebacker but yet you’re ignoring it and Stephen Jones was telling you they were going to draft a corner.

The team thinks the way I do but all NFL teams do. You just haven’t caught up to what everyone is doing.

when the hell did you pay attention to Jerry or Stephen. Teams think they way you do? God you are so full of it, maybe some team needs to hire you Mel Kiper wanna be. lol I know you impress yourself but that is where it ends.

Because linebackers are cheap, easy to find in the draft, and aren’t a premium position you pay.

I repeated this a million times this past off-season but some of you don’t understand how the draft works.

First round picks, especially top 10 picks, are used on players that impact the pass game.

The run game is devalued. Teams don’t value big run stuffing Nose Tackles like Cowboyszone does.

If you can’t cover you are nearly useless at linebacker in today’s NFL.

Premium position are Corner, pass rusher, Offensive Tackle, QB.

I would beg to differ a bit. Agreed league has become a passing one, passing game dictates more Points and more pizzazz. But to counter your argument , a good running game makes the QBs life easier ,and opens up the passing game. As Mahomes found out in the last super bowl, with all the offensive power they had they couldn't put up points at will.

I agree - QB , pass rusher and OT ( blind side ) are premium positions.

corner is not such a premium, since there is no “shutdown corner” in NFL anymore . Even with current players like Ramsey, Sherman, Petersen are better ones but they cant shutdown the receivers all game . Routinely teams find good corners in rounds 2-4.

linebacker is more read and react position by design. MLB need to read the offensive formation and adjust the defense what to expect , so he becomes a QB for defense . Luke , Bobby are generational talent who could excel at recognition and fill holes, cover TEs, tackle surely . I think its key for any dominating defense to have one good MLB. Ray Lewis for Baltimore defense . Now Devin White for the buccaneers defense.

so you put a value on that !

Yes.. I’m not saying anything controversial. The problem is you haven’t wrapped your head around the modern game of football and that’s why you’re so upset right now.

The reason corners are premium is:

1. They cost a lot and you can draft them and get them for cheap for 4-5 years.

2. They impact the pass game.

That’s really it. That’s really why all of these positions are valued so highly over positions that impact the run game.

Players that impact the pass game are looked at as more rare so they cost more.

You can find a list of run stuffing Nose Tackles on day 3 of the draft. Good luck finding a impactful Left Tacke.

Also, yes if a rare player like Kuechlynis there they will get selected but they are an exception where as Jaycee Horn and Surtain are more of the rule everyone follows consistently.

Upset? you come here slamming Dak as if you are some expert make dumb claims of he needs talent as if other QB do not need talent and now you are a draft expert? . You impress yourself that is it. Dallas lost CB in FA, everyone knew that which is why most who covered the draft felt that Dallas would be looking at CB and with 2 top prospect that should be in that area of the draft it looked pretty obvious. Yet draft did not happen that way. Dallas did trade back but I think most knew Chicago was looking at QB and we knew Philly clearly wanted WR. Cowboys clearly could have gone OT with Slater yet the guy most felt was the best player on defense Cowboys choose him.

I slammed Dak’s contract because QBs on rookie deals are winning titles and vets taking pay cuts.

The Dak’s of the league aren’t winning titles.

probably most of teams feel LB is too high for the no 12 pick, they take a lot of hits and dont last long.

BS you been slamming him since he was named starting QB. It has been a constant around here. So don't hand me that BS it was the contract.

It’s always been contract related. Over a 4 year period I’m not saying I didn’t go after his ability a time or 2. I did that with Romo as well.

My biggest problem with Dak is I don’t know if we can win a title with him making so much money because elite QBs can’t even do it.

Talent matters which is why TB took Devin White with the 5th overall in 2019 draft. The guy can bring pressure he can drop into coverage. He has shown himself as a playmaker for defense.

I guess that shows the Tampa is does not have their head wrapped around modern football. LOL

It's not what you say, it's what you do.

We had the 12th pick. We chose a LB. If Jerry REALLY believed no LB was worth a #12 pick, we wouldn't have Micah.

Jerry made the comment that the 12th overall pick was too high for a LB.

I don’t get that. I wouldn’t devalue the LB position like that especially for a player like Parsons.

1) What position are Parson’s splash plays coming from? Why is a talent like that excelling at DE more than LB?

2) If Parsons isn’t making splash plays at the traditional LB position, I would assume it is more about scheme than talent at the LB position. Or is it just less opportunity to affect the game at LB vs DE no matter what the scene is these days?

3) Don’t recall the LBs here making a whole lot of splash plays. Lee, Jaylon, LVE on occasion. Now we have a super talented LB in Parsons but at the traditional LB position he does not excel?

4) Is it league wide and there just isn’t as many playmaking LBs and influencers at the LB position. Seems like LBs made more plays decades before than now. Are LBs today more like intermediate safeties when not blitzing? Analytics? Keep it in front of you and just make the tackle, nothing fancy.

5) Or is it just limited by Jaylon and LVE just not all that? Like to see Cox out there to see what he can do.

He isnt excelling at DE more than linebacker. Its more of a spread passing league now where QB's get the ball out quickly. Linebackers are more coverage types.

Last splash play LB we had was Hollywood. Dexter made some nice plays here and there as well.
