Some of you are pretty easily duped. I think it is pretty comical how some of you are getting sucked in by Jason Witten's alleged "leadership". If you want him as a coach that's fine, make him a coach. But he has to be able to actually be able to play football to be an asset to the team as a player.

For instance, why not just bring Joe Montana back out of retirement for his super bowl wins. I mean if this leadership phenomenon can just rub off on other players that would make sense wouldn't it?

While we are at it let's sign up Bret Fabre too, because if we add him to the roster, some of that gunslinger mentality is bound to rub off on Dak too, right?

I'm not sure why the Saints sent Dez to IR when he got injured. I mean, that "passion" Dez has should surely be worth a roster spot too, shouldn't it? Why send him to IR? The Saints needed that passion on the sidelines!

Hell we should also bring back Darren Woodson too. Maybe some of his playmaking ability will just magically rub off on Heath and Woods too.

Do you guys see how rediculous that sounds? I don't see how anyone could see this as a good idea.

Has anyone actually paid attention how bad Sean Lee played last year, or Witten the year before? Obviously not.

Ignorance personified. You really embarrassed yourself with this thread. I suggest you read the Art of War by Sun Tzu, or for a little lighter reading, Training Camp: What the best do better than everyone else.

When it comes to leadership the only ones that can actually answer that question are those that share the battlefield with him. We as fans have our opinions but we do not share the locker room, practice field/battlefield with any of these guys who are credited with the leadership quality. I am for any presence that helps the Dallas Cowboys.

And at the same time some complain at the perceived lack of "leadership".

This Fickle fan base complains when you don't and turns around and complains when you do... Whatever it takes to fit the narrative of negativity.

Not really. I'm more upbeat on the Cowboys than most here. I just see this as a step back to the old way of doing things and a step backwards to our goals.

I am perplexed by the IR comment.

How bad witten played the year before.
7th in TE receptions in 2017.
9th in TE touchdowns.
12th in TE yards.

Top 10 player at the position still at 35 is bad?

Teams funneled the ball to him because of his lack of explosion. His stats are artificially inflated and his TDs sucked even though he should be a TD machine if he is that "crafty".

I'm still not sure how I feel about this. If Witten can be productive, by all means bring him aboard. But I would also like to see him have to earn a roster spot, not just be given one. We all know that's not going to happen tho. The guy is 37 years old and will be taking up a roster spot. For 25 plays a game, that could really hurt more than help. If we all knew that Dallas would cut ties with him during any point of the season, we'd be fine with this. But as soon as a promising player is cut in order to keep Witten around. . . . .

No. But it's a seriously poor decision by the Cowboys.

It’s not at all.
We lack draft capital.

Now we don’t have to waste a valuable pick one year after drafting a TE in the 4th and we have that jarwin guy who had a 3 TD game at the end of the year when they started throwing seams. Now they have that guy in the room, and he won’t hinder the development as people think if he gets the 20-25 snaps they say.

We have to dole out big money deals to our studs.
Witten signed for literally 1.8% of the cap.
It’s 191 million dollars and he’s getting under 4.

We just lost our second best pass rusher and a
defensive tackle. D Line is a definite huge need.

Along with possibly Lee and Damien Wilson. So LB becomes a need.

We need a safety, heath isn’t a 16 game starter on a super bowl defense. And we lack depth as well.

And we can’t forget o line. Depth can not be fooled with. Fleming is gone, o line need be addressed as well.

What are the actual downsides, not including him being slow or old. And don’t say he runs 3 yards and falls. He averaged 9 yards a catch and converted the first down on 41% of his receptions his final year.

He’s always been slow.
And he’s also always open.

He was old in 2017, and was a top 10 player at his position. No one is saying he’s coming back and expecting to be Kelce or Ertz.

So this is the hill you’re choosing to die on, discrediting one of the greatest players in your franchises history.

How are his stats artificially inflated?
It was basically the first year he wasn’t the most targeted player on the team. By 40+ balls.

Explain to me how TDS possibly suck, when that’s the best possible outcome of any play. 3 came in the 2nd quarter and the other two in the fourth. None of them were little one yard routes. 8, 12, 18, 20 and 28 yard scores. Pretty impressive for a guy who only ever runs 3 yards and is so unathletic he falls down instantly.

IMHO you are basing your opinion on past reputation and fandom. I like Witten as much as anyone but he has been dead weight for several years. His blocking is especially poor.

He is crafty. That’s why how at age 35, he scored more TDS than 23 other starting TEs with a top speed of my grandmother exiting a hoveround.

Again, all your claims are easily disproven by real things, like stats and film breakdowns.

Next you’ll try to bring up his fase starts and I can say how he’s averaged 1 every 8 games over the past two seasons.
