League will be watching Williams, tackling tactics closely

When Roy Williams returns to work Wednesday for the Dallas Cowboys he will do so with a sharp warning the Dallas Morning News reported.
The NFL, in a letter, told the Cowboys strong safety that increased discipline is possible if he commits another horse-collar tackle. Williams missed Saturday's game at Carolina because he was serving a one-game suspension after being penalized for an illegal horse-collar tackle.
If Williams is flagged again, he could receive a two-game suspension, including playoff games.

This is a little ridiculous. As if the guy doesn't have enough on his mind, now he has the league scrutinizing his every move. While I don't think he'll horse collar again, I wonder if the league ever sat Rodney Harrison down and said they'd be watching him closely seeing has how he's been voted the dirtiest player in the league by his peers on multiple occasions.

Yea Rodney aint clean either, but if the rule is made for you, you better not break it. People's season's are at risk with his dangerous way of tackling. There are other ways of tackling from behind.

A lot of things that happen in football put people's seasons at risk. Look at all the people on IR this season, how many of them are out because of a horse collar?

I'm not defending it, a rule is a rule, but let's not pretend this is the one dangerous aspect of a football game.

Sadly you probably believe he is the only one who uses that tackle.

Will he be suspended if he hits a "defenseless" cooley over the middle? Or since its a different kind of penalty will he only be given the penalty?

Thats a half-serious question.

who knows. it you are going to put him on notice, I don't think you can hold him more accountable for other infractions then you would other players.

You think he'll horse collar again in the few games left and risk a suspension?

No doubt, but because the rule was put in almost specifically because of a dangerous aspect of how he plays, you think he would take better heed.

And yes, other players do it too, and i hope they receive punishment for it.

Personally, if the rule was never put into place, i do not think i would care a ton. Football is a tough sport, but because it is, it should be respected.

TO didn't get hurt on a horse collar this year, but the injury could have been just as serious when he did.

Is the NFL going to ban that tackle too?

Maybe not this year. But do you really think he won't ever do that again at any point in his career?

He knew he would be suspended and did it anyway. He is a habitual repeat offender. He simply can't help himself.

Is this warning for the rest of Roy's career? Any horse collar in the next 10 years will get him a 2 game suspension?

Haha, yeah even if he doesnt horsecollar for 3+ years, if he does one he gets that 2 game suspension. That would probably be about how that goes.

Can shut that ignorance up! How many players career has been ended by a horse collar? Name just one? How many players career has been ended by a chop block? The NFL only cares about injuries that affect offensive players and that is it. hypocracy at its best.

Total bull. Complete and total bull. To my knowledge no player has ever been suspended for a game for a personal foul face mask. Not even if they've been flagged a dozen times.

Ridiculous.

Dangerous tackling method my rear. Was Owens horse collared Saturday? Will all tackling from behind be outlawed soon? Stupid.

Like I said, I dont have strong feelings one way or another about the rule, but if you know its not good for you, find a way to stop doing it.

As much as I don't like to hear that, this is really true. Chop blocks are ridiculous and have ended WAYYYYYY more athletes careers then horsecollaring has.

In honor of the horse collar rule, the NFL has changed it's logo to:
