Well of course race plays SOME factor, unless we're trying to pretend race doesn't influence the opinions of anyone in America these days. I just find it hilarious that Lebron has never said anything about anything, and suddenly he wants to talk race.

Remember this Lebron? Remember how you played this off? Now you have something to say?

No offense but any of you using the Race card in your postings look rediculous.

You know who you are and you are probably ones who play this cop-out the same way when things don't go your way.

It's very sad. I feel sorry for those who give up and look for excuses because they don't like certain situations and need SOMEONE ELSE to blame.

Its like...Im so great..why dont they like me? It has to be my color. WHAT? Someone doesn't like your character or your choices as a supposed super star, so they dont like you, and the 1st thing it has to be is because you are black/white/brown/yellow/red/purple color. GET OVER YOURSELVES and be SOMEBODY and not someone who needs to be held and coddled and petted so his/her feelings somehow get better.

How un 2010 of you. It just makes you look to be the one who is racial when you constantly want to blame others for any shortcomings in your life/career or anything related.

Blargh... Man I could rant on this crap all day. Im so sick of seeing race be a factor with anyone.

When it is OBVIOUS...I get it...but this is just a COP-OUT on LJ and you know it.

If he means that 90% of whites thought he was a foaming jack-wagon for stroking his inflated title-less ego as opposed to only 89.5% of blacks and Latino's, then yeah, I could see that.

LOL.

I'm not shocked, in the least, that at some point he, or someone else, tried to play the racism card on this. The fact that he's hated for how he played this out is because he's black?

LOL!

Please.

And this is the exact problem. You guys just read stuff and then twist it to your own fashion.

Lebron never said that the only reason he's being hated is cause he's black. All he merely did was answer the man's question.

If you guys want to sit here and act as if there isn't a single person in this world who doesn't look at him and hate him and what he did even more because he's black then your just idiotic.

He never said that was the only reason, and if you read/watch the entire interview you would see that.

But you know i guess reading is too hard for you people now. It's just better to blindly attack someone and proclaim there idiocy.

Huh?

Race played a role? What does he mean here? He likes Latin chicks better?

Cleveland has a large Black Ethnic population and New York, are you kidding me?

Honestly, I don't see any logical reasoning behind these kinds of statements.

What it sounds like he means is:

Any criticism coming my way is because I am black.

Which is complete horse crap.

Any criticism coming his way is because he is a sellout who joined an all-star team so he could succeed. On top of that, he built up a load hype, marketed his decision as an issue of worldwide importance and shocked absolutely no one.

He's self-centered. Great basketball player but he's a baby.

He's been catered too since he was in middle school because of his genetics. He can't fathom the fact that people might not like him because he's a gigantic poon, so he plays the race card. Lebron is a pretty good example of the narcissistic mentality of athletes nowadays, and it's not even necessarily their fault.

The Heat will win the title, and they'll probably win it this year. You can book that.

For all you crying about race.

On LeBron talking about race being an issue in the criticism he’s received:

“It’s like watching a movie. Just when you think it couldn’t get any stupider, it gets more stupid.”

On LeBron continuing to make bad decisions:

“Howard I’m telling you. Sometimes you just say he’s making bad decisions and you’re like okay, he’s gonna get it together. Then he makes more bad decisions. The thing that’s interesting about LeBron, I don’t think Magic, Michael, and myself, we said we wouldn’t have did it. That’s not a criticism. We were asked a question. I don’t want to play with Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, or Michael, I want to beat them. That’s strictly basketball. The only criticism I’ve heard about LeBron and it was my biggest criticism, that decision thing was just stupid. It was stupid. The second thing when they all came out there dancing around on stage, that was silly. That’s the only thing I’ve heard LeBron get criticized about. That has nothing to do with race. That’s what makes this last thing so stupid. That’s stupid. The only criticism of LeBron has been the decision and the one hour of our life that we can’t have back. And ESPN, oh my God. Oh my God. To go down to training camp and report everyday is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. I’m watching yesterday and one of the guys actually said LeBron looked fierce in practice. I’m like fierce in practice? What the hell does that mean? He was fierce in the second day of training camp. You’re like come on man, he really didn’t say that did he. This summer with LeBron and all the stuff that went on is like a bad movie. You just can’t make this stuff up.”

...

Bam. Money shot. Get some.

Not to chime in on the other stuff, but Charles Barkley is full of horse-puckey on his Lebron take.

He may have wanted to beat Magic, Jordan, and Bird or whatever, but he's got selective amnesia when it comes to his own career path and chase for the ring.

Did he forget going to Houston to join Clyde and Dream...and even Pippen to form an old man's Miami Heat? Barkley can talk that stuff, cuz he's full of it.

I love how you conveniently left out the fact that when that happened, Clyde, Pippen, and Drexler were in the twilight phases of their career....which is vastly different than joining up with them if they were in the prime. Also, Barkley never held a 1 hour special to announce any such nonsense, which is his bigger point.

And lastly, Barkley was traded to Houston. He wasn't a FA.

LeBron was "traded" too. But since he was a UFA, he basically picked the team, could have signed outright with them, and instead the Cavs obliged with a sign and trade to at least get back something.

But that scenario was different than Barkley's, too.

Q-Score Poll of the most disliked athletes in America:

1. Michael Vick
2. Tiger Woods
3. Terrell Owens
4. Chad Ochocinco
5. Kobe Bryant
6. LeBron James

No Ben Roethlisberger, No Favre, No McGuire or Clemens, No Armstrong, etc. I keep hearing people tell me how much they hate Favre, and yet he doesn't make the Top 6. Instead we have Chad, cause he likes to Twitter and dance in the endzone.

“According to The Q Scores Co., for non-blacks, LeBron's positive Q rating went from 18 percent in January to 10 percent in September and, more telling, his negative Q rating went from 24 percent to 44. Nearly half of the non-blacks in this country don't like the dude. Meanwhile, LeBron's positive Q rating among blacks went from 52 percent in January to 39 -- a noticeable drop -- but his negative Q rating barely budged, going from 14 percent to 15. Among African-Americans, says The Q Scores Co. executive vice president Henry Schafer, the shift in opinion was mostly to neutral.”
I mean we can keep pretending race has nothing to do with, but that's just not the case.

I don't even like Lebron, I've disliked the guy since he entered the league because of all the hype surrounding him. The same reason I hate Reggie Bush. People were ready to christen Lebron as the next Jordan and Reggie as the next Faulk before they even touched a professional court/field.

But I have never in my life seen America react with such hatred towards a player for simply signing with a team as a free agent. I mean what other athlete has had his jersey burned in the streets for that?

Whether people hate Lebron just because he's black is a silly argument, that's no the case. There are plenty of reasons to dislike the guy, I can help you come up with a bunch if you need some help. But to just throw out the anti-racism card without even CONSIDERING if there is any truth to it is as stupid as throwing out the race card in the first place without considering and noting other contributing factors.

The Count makes a good point.

I remember when Barry Bonds was at the epicenter of the Steroids Debate a few years ago.

When I would ask co-workers why he was the only player being singled out and seemingly the only one in danger of going to jail, the only answer I got was because he had the biggest name and was a Hall of Fame player.

Once it was revealed that Roger Clemens and Alex Rodriguez used steroids, the outrage wasn't nearly as big. Roger Clemens even went to Capital Hill and personally lied to congress.

Again, I find it very interesting that in the age of "me" and "more money", Lebron James gets criticized for actually taking less money to put winning first.

Woody's Girl also makes a great point. Yes, some of the guys he went to play with in Houston were not in their prime but Charles Barkley did an interview after he made his decision to go to Houston and said, "I felt like I had to go to a team where I wasn't the best player".

From where I sit, no one in the steroid age has dropped harder or been a bigger target than Clemens. Not even Bonds. Clemens is on the verge of going to jail.

I don't know why I am even chiming in because I am not an NBA fan any more and don't know what this is all about at all. Just saying I have not seen a bigger storm than the one surrounding Clemens unless it was Pete Rose.
