Well... Maybe it will be like Marcus Spears injury last year.. which kept him out 6 weeks.. When it happened he thought it was going to be much worse.

I say this is another reason that I like the fact that Parcells keeps his linemen in knee braces during camp.

Of course if it's a tibia or fibula break.. that can't really be prevented.

Browns' Bentley hurt in first practice, may be lost for season
By Patrick McManamon

Beacon Journal sportswriter

Newly acquired offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley was driven off the Browns practice field in a cart after injuring a knee in the team's first practice today.

A source close to Bentley said there is a fear he has a partial or complete tear of the patella tendon in his left knee and would require surgery, sidelining him possibly for the entire 2006 season.

Bentley was to undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury. Results were expected to be available this afternoon.

Bentley's body language after being hurt did not indicate the injury was minor.

He stayed on the ground for several minutes after the first running play of an 11-on-11 drill. He had an air cast put on his leg before being put on a cart.

He lay back on the cart with a towel over his face as he was taken to the locker room.

Bentley went for the MRI on crutches. Team trainers did not allow him to put any weight on his left leg.

Bentley was considered the major off-season free-agent signing move by the Browns, who gave him a six-year deal worth a total of $36 million, with $12.5 million guaranteed.

Leaving the New Orleans Saints, the former Ohio State player and Cleveland native brought Pro Bowl credentials to the interior of the Browns' offensive line.

patella tendon blown = out for season

It's not just that.

He is probably never going to be the same player again. Very unfortunate.

Browns lose Bentley for season

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Stretched out on a flatbed cart, LeCharles Bentley covered his face with a towel to hide his disappointment and tears.

This wasn't the homecoming he had planned.

His first season with the Cleveland Browns ended before it began.

Bentley, a two-time Pro Bowl center and one of the team's prized free agent signings this winter, sustained a season-ending injury to his left knee Thursday in the first 11-on-11 drill of training camp. The loss is a crushing blow for a club that has been cursed by major injuries the past few seasons but has improved its roster and has high hopes for 2006.

"He was the face of our free agent class," general manager Phil Savage said. "We feel terrible for LeCharles, but life goes on."

Savage said Bentley tore his patellar tendon and will undergo surgery as early as Friday. Savage declined to say if Bentley's tear was partial or complete and would not speculate on a time frame for recovery.

I really feel for this Browns fan:

For the first time in my life, I feel totally hopeless about the Cleveland Browns.

Here's a guy in LeCharles who didn't miss a game in his first 4-5 years on the field, a hometown boy who wanted to come here, the premiere free agent that we land within hours -- and on the first play from scrimmage on THE FIRST ****** DAY OF TRAINING CAMP he blows out his knee and is gone for the year?

This goes beyond bad luck and even curses, because the cruelty of what this franchise and we fans have suffered ... and the harder the team tries to break out of it, the more *s* like this happens to twist the knife even further into our backs than it already is.

It's the sort of thing that makes you feel like no matter who is brought in to the front office, no matter who is hired to coach, no matter who is signed or drafted, no matter how much we deserve it ...

I've never felt as low as I do right now, not even when the team moved (because then we had righteous anger to fuel us).

What's the point?

Not just the money- now he is injured. DOUBLE WHAMMY.

After reading this, the first thing I thought about was Joey Galloway getting injured Week 1 in 2000.

Yeah, the Brownies are snake bit, but unlike this Browns fan, I am sure many of them are still just happy to have a franchaise there.

Those 4-5 years without the NFL in Cleveland must have been terribly excruciating.
