Pink Floyd. Easiest choice so far. The problem I have with Led Zeppelin is that each album had some great tracks...some of the greatest tracks in music history, no doubt...but the rest of the disc would be chaff. Also, Zep's music hasn't aged well to my ears. It just sounds 40 years old to me and I don't get that feeling at all with Pink Floyd (starting with DSotM, anyway).

Plus, Jimmy Page couldn't carry Gilmour's jock if he had a forklift to help him.

No disrespect to the man or the band intended...

Gilmour is decent but his shadow is pale in comparison to Page. Page was the better riff-writer,guitar player, producer and no one looked cooler with a 59 les paul slung low.
The dude played on countless studio recordings before he even got to the yardbirds.
We will never see another band where all members were as extremly gifted as zep. And bonzo and jones were just as gifted as page and plant if not more so.

The Floyd.

Starting from the very beginning with Syd and continuing up until just before the last album with Waters.

"Achilles' Last Stand" is an amazing song though.

edit: I swear I did not notice the name of the poster whose post I followed, and haven't noticed the name before. Weird.

I got beef with both statements.
Gilmore is far and away beyond decent.
As for a band with members extremely gifted?...Rush,Yes,The Who....oh and they did not "borrow" their songs.

I'm assuming you're more upset with the fact that they didn't pay royalties, as opposed to the fact that they covered a few blues tunes? Because there's a ton of great bands that have used cover songs to boost their careers.....Van Halen being the first one that comes to mind.

It was not uncommon for bands[especially english}to borrow old blues tunes especially in the mid-late 60s.
From whom did they steal kashmir?
A.L.S.?
Ten years gone?
Carouselambra?
What is and what should never be?
In the light?
I could name countless others as well.
Im not saying they did not borrow just saying that the material they didnt borrow more then stands on its own.
And last i checked this was the zep vs floyd thread.
You are free to start up a Yes vs Rush thread which is actually a pretty good idea being that both were great.

yup Acid (PF) or pot (LZ)

but I was on both at the time I saw both
I don't think you could go to a PF concert and not get high just on secondhand smoke. :laugh2: I never saw LZ in concert.

I never saw Zep, but I did see Page and Plant and it was unreal. The best moment of the concert was when Robert Plant stopped singing Black Dog because the fans were so loud, so he let us sing 3/4 of the song...he just sat back and smiled. It was one of the coolest concert experiences I've ever had....and I've been to a lot of shows.

Led Zeppelin for me.

How The West Was Won is my favorite live album of all time.

Full of 10 minute guitar solos and Robert Plant just making stuff up on the fly.

Greatest band in history IMO.

That's a great story. Nothing would've been cooler than going to a Zeppelin concert. Lucky.

You didnt happen to see them in 98 did you? One of the best shows ive ever seen in my life. Ive also seen plant solo and page with the firm.
To see them in there prime would have been a memorable experience no doubt.

I'm thinking it was more like 96? US Air Arena in Washington, DC. Sophomore year of college for me. Great, great show...I was so psyched to finally see Led Zep (half of it at least) and it exceeded my expectations. Page and Plant were so powerful that night.

Floyd by a million miles. I enjoyed a lot of Zep music, but I could never bring myself to getting a Fan Card.

Pink Floyd is great, but I take Led Zeppelin without even thinking twice.

Some of Ozzy stuff was that way too. Especially the later albums. That all started I think after The Ultimate Sin. (last full album of his I keep on my phone)
