Lee to the Phillies

WOW, Texas actually had the highest offer

6/138 with a vesting option for the 7th year that would push it to a 7/161 deal!

You beat me to it. I do recall that this trio beat the Phillies. Everything looks good on paper, just ask the Yankees. They thought that they had an easy time going to the WS especially since the Rays were knocked out of the playoffs and the Yanks had beaten the Rangers pretty handily this year. This will be interesting.

Interesting. Lee will have to hit now and play NL ball.

Phillies arent a lock for anything. I think SFO showed us that.

wow really? The angels to me are better and the A's getting matsui and other players so far to go with their staff probably are better off.

The rangers need to settle the DH role, the catcher position and go find a pitcher or two to pick up the slack.

and we have an unkown at first base. The rangers could very well slip back to third easily.

That angels staff is good and we will need a front line pitcher now to match up.

Agreed. With taking Lee out of the #1 slot, there is ALOT of question marks in the rotation.

CJ - can he repeat last year..too much on arm?
Lewis - more of a sure thing IMO, but still who knows?
Holland - which one shows up
Hunter - he is what he is
Then what????

You forgot Bumgarner. I think he replaces Sanchez as the solid #3 by May.

Well, I can understand him picking the Rangers over the Yankees but this? I think both the Yanks and the Rangers are better off without Lee.

Really? Better off without the best FA pitcher available hmm?

Phils are stacked in their rotation.. not sure how much offense we are going to be able to produce though.

Bleep him. I'm sick of guys demanding the moon from NY but settling for much less elsewhere. The money and years we were offering was insane anyway, so in my mind, we dodged a bullet. At least Texas got burned as well.

This is a huge loss for Texas. Your talking about the best pitcher in all of baseball.

Phillies will be back in the World Series next year. So will the Yanks.

Trying to make others think "poor Yankees", just because a guy chose to keep his pride and take a lesser deal to go to a team he wanted to be with, instead of being bought out and going to a place he didn't want to be, is sad.

I'll be honest, I don't see how we were going to justify spending that kind of money for a guy who blew it for us in the World Series(no that he didn't have help). I'll always appreciate what he did to the Yankees as a Ranger in the ALCS....but he was just human in the WS...not worth that kind of money when he couldn't even get it done the first time around. Now, had he gone 2-0 and we won the series and he left, that would hurt. This doesn't bother me at all. We now have a lot of money to spend on players younger than 32.

I don't know man.. for all the pitching we have stocked up, we have to find a way to produce more offense.

I agree...besides,
how much longer is he going to be the "best pitcher in baseball" anyway???

The guy is 32 and my bet is his best days are behind him...

Im not sure i'd even call him the best pitcher in baseball.. or even the best pitcher in our rotation. I think Doc and Oswalt were both lights out down the stretch last year, and Hamels wasn't too far behind.

I think what you can call Lee, arguably, is the best POSTSEASON pitcher in baseball right now. I know he blew his starts in the WS, but other than that he's been unreal.

Either way, we still have to find a way to get more hits, a better team average with RISP, and our star players need to step up their efforts at the plate this year. Jimmy especially.. i didn't even want him back after last year.

THE MAN IS NOT A LEADOFF HITTER CHARLIE! DAMN.

Yankees should thank the Yankee fans that spit and threw beer at Lee's wife in the playoffs. What were they thinking?

I don't think I have to tell you how stagnant our Phillies offense can be when we really stink. I'm actually not sure how I made it through July.

Yeah really.

I'm from Philly and had a feeling he could come back. Lee really loved it here and was shocked when he got traded. I think the final straw was Charlie Manuel. He really looks up to him as do the other Philly players like Jimmy Rollins, Victoriono etc. I don't know what it is about him but players want to play for him.

Also, think about this, in New York he would have all the pressure on him and Sabathia. That team is also on the downside and has to compete with the reloaded Red Sox. In Texas he has no support and would be a one man show on the staff. I know the Rangers have a few quality pitchers but I think there number 2's. In Philly, he has Halladay, Hamels, and Oswalt all number 1 starters on other teams. I know we lost Werth but we have the number 1 rated prospect in Baseball in Dom Brown to replace him. Give him a full year next year and he's going to hit 260(first year always low) 25 hr 100 rbi's and 25-30 steals. This was a guy who turned down a full ride to play wr for the U. The only problem the Phillies have now is they have too many left handed bats. To me, it was a no brainer.

Can't believe anyone would actually even want to be within 50 miles if Philly. It just doesn't make since.

He said he really liked it there. I guess it should have been expected. Lee didn't come off as someone who was about every last dollar. I thought he was upset about the Phillies trading him though. I guess he got over that.

Lee isn't the best pitcher in baseball. He might be the 5th best. One thing he does have though is when the pressure is on, he is usually at his best. (except when he has had 8 days off :laugh2: )

Now, If I'm Texas I look at going after Raphael Soriano and look at the possibility of moving Feliz to the starter role. Although, he might not be ready for that yet. I don't think he has learned that throwing as hard as you can isn't the key to being a starter. Thats the key to having to have tommy john surgery.
