Leftwich

espn is reporting leftwich will be out 8-12 weeks because he tore his rotator cuff using a fork to eat his dinner last night

Leftwich will want a real shot at starting somewhere. I don't think Dallas would be a "likely" spot for that to happen. We'll see.

That's the key right there. He wants to start somewhere. If he was content with backing up then he would be a great compliment to our boy Romo.

Not so high on Leftwich, although he would be an upgrade over Johnson.

I was hoping that Chris Simms would be let go. Yes he still needs time to recover, but he's still young and can be a worthwhile investment. Oh well. Can't believe Tampa's gonna go w/ 4 qbs.

I'm really intrigued by Erik Ainge. I think if we add to our draft picks next year (in a trade down scenario) and he's there in the beginning of the 2nd, I wouldn't hesitate one bit in drafting him.

That's more of an indictment on our defense and lack of ability to adjust, than it is a ringing endorsement for Sandwich. Unfortunately, being shredded by less than mediocre QBs has been the norm in Dallas with our lack of pass rush. Hopefully, that is no longer the case.

Byron Leftwich is one of the worst QBs in the league. I mean, he just got benched and cut in favor of David Garrard. Hello?! Why would anyone want this guy on the Dallas Cowboys?

That's not really accurate. they were top 10 until last 5 weeks, held jville to very little rushing yds that day and had reasonable pressure on leftwich. guy stood back there and just put balls on the money all over the field. should be, at least, no arguement that if healthy he's an upgrade on brad johnson.

Until the last 5 weeks... you mean the ones that really matter? That's called fading down the stretch.

Leftwich has a slow, awkward release, and we gave him all day to throw the ball. That's not reasonable pressure.

So I'd say it is pretty accurate.

:lmao:

I don't think we would be able to pick him up. He's a pretty big guy. Not Jared Lorenzen big, but pretty damn big.

I think picking him up would be an unbelievable move. Read back to quotes from the Dallas defense last year about Leftwich's throws after he picked them apart. They basically said there was little they could do. I can't believe Dallas isn't at least considering this.

You take Leftwich and see what happens with our QB and get him some good QB coaching.

I'm sorry..but Johnson, no matter how much pablum the Cowboy organization wants to feed us..will not get this team to the playoffs if Romo goes down.

And I'm still not convinced Romo won't go cold on us for another 4-5 game stretch and murder our playoff chances. We really don't know enough about him and all we hear about is all this media romance-novel BS about him.

He hasn't really proven it to me yet.

Sorry.

We have tons of cap space and could easily take Leftwich and have some depth. And yes, Leftwich killed us.

I clearly remember him.

If he played behind our OL and had our running game..he'd stay relatively healthy.

Sign him.

No question. He'd definitely be an upgrade and I think in the right system, with the weapons we have, he could give Romo a run for his money. I'm not kidding. He's just got some limitations, but he also has high 1st round talent. He's got a good arm, seems pretty accurate, and he's still pretty young. He's just somewhat injury prone, has a slow release, and can't move for crap.

He takes forever to get the damn ball out. And he can't move to avoid it. Forget him.

Leftwich won't come to a team where he doesn't have a legit shot at starting. I'm pretty happy we passed on him and drafted Newman.

It makes more sense to have Leftwich than Brad Johnson under all circumstances. Especially since Leftwich won't be a huge hit on our salary cap at all. It's not like he's gonna expect a monster contract. Any knock on Leftwich is equal or worse for Johnson. Plus, Leftwich still hasn't reached his full potential. Johnson is well over that hill.

I see no reason for Atlanta not to jump on him like crazy though.

Eh, i'd give him a look. And I'm not even that displeased with Brad Johnson as our backup. But if nothing more, he could be "insurance" against a Romo second season meltdown, if we think there's still something left to cultivate in Leftwhich.

Romo is anything but a sure thing. We just don't know yet. That's why we should have just bit the bullet and drafted Quinn and may the best man have won, ala Aikman and Walsh. I think we're going to live to regret it actually. One position where taking a security gamble may have been in our best interest. Not too often teams are even in the position we were in to add someone of that talent to someone of suspected continued progress. We could have been set either one of two ways. Instead we threw all our eggs into one basket, and now we won't even give the guy his contract.
