Former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer has died at age 77.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Schottenheimer died on Monday after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat, his children Kristen and Brian, and four grandchildren.

Schottenheimer was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, and his condition worsened in recent years. His family announced last week that he had been moved to hospice care.

R.I.P. Great coach who I always respected. Was glad when he won a championship even though it wasn't unfortunately a super bowl. Still can't believe how Washington then San Diego railroaded him out of town.

Alzheimers is horrible and it's effected my family aswell. Sad to see him go but glad he's at peace.

A few Super Bowl winning coaches came out from under his wing. A legend.

Also, Marty should be in the Hall of Fame. If McCree goes down, they win the Super Bowl in 2006. The Colts weren't going to stop them, Marty had their number.
