Leighton Vander Esch interview

I'm going to be one of the "haters" but IMO was just another reach and a waste of time.

Hated the first round selection as teams knew he had neck issues. Especially drafting someone that early in one of the more violent positions in football. Now I was shocked by his rookie year and thought ok maybe his neck issues weren't as bad as everyone thought. However, after his first injury he was never the same player. You could tell he shied away from contact and each injury only made it worse.

He seemed like a really nice guy but professional football wise it was just a waste of a 1st.

I don't have time to listen to LVE, but he is actually one of my favorite players recently. Gets a lot of underserved hate around the CZ. That's part of why I like him. He was a film guy more than a flash guy..fans just didn't understand that.
No he wasn't

Unfortunately when I think of him the image that comes to mind is him getting ragdolled 10 yards downfield over and over again.

I don't feel like most of them are. I just think they are disgruntled Cowboys fans. I don't like to get into all the labeling (hater, troll, lover). I just mostly want to talk football about my team.

You said you don't think most of them are? Ok cool.

When we win games... there's a cluster of people who never say good things about us, never post celebratory comments when we make great plays, even result to diminishing our wins, and dissappear from this board for a whole week AFTER our wins until the next time we lose.

Then.... when we lose, these same people immediately post and post all week, blame one player for a team loss, make stupid statements that they cant factually back up, and appear happy through their posts.

Now tell me does this sound like the behavior of a fan.... or a troll? Im pretty sure you're intelligent enough to know the difference.

I remember Troy saying he thought LVE was headed for the HoF...

Im not sure exactly what happened to LVE but my guess is it was another case of bulking up & losing the speed that made him special to begin with.

His height, even in his down years, was still an annoyance for QBs trying to throw down the middle of the field.

A lot a neck injury is not a knee so getting that confidence back to be able to tackle confidently, also I think coaches, when Lee was here his rookie year he seemed to get things faster I think the coaches not just the HC for the last 20 years sucked except Al Harris to get players 100% dialed in on the game plan. Lets not forget the DC carosel started after his 2nd year. So had Marinelli, Nolan, and Quinn through in some injuries in that window and you can see why he was inconsistent

Him and Jaylon had one good year and were able to stay in the NFL for a while. Good player but couldn't stay on the field unfortunately, happens to a lot of players...not hating on the guy, he was good while on the field but the neck injury limited him on his full potential.

Hate breeds hate for the ignorant of which this place it’s infested with. It’s really sad to see. They would never say it to the players face to face because they’re all cowards.
Sadly, some spew just as much hate attacking those who hate on the players or the coach or the front office or assume any criticism or objective analysis is hate. That's also sad to see. Makes this place a lot less pleasant.

Exactly

I liked him but his body failed him. The team should know better than to draft a player with spinal stenosis

For sure. Not for lack of effort though. He always wanted to win and gave 100 percent. Give me 11 LVE types and you can win with that.
Had that Demarion overshown, Sean Lee, Justin beriault freak ability but just wasn’t meant to be

Terrible draft pick because he had these injuries before he was drafted.

Considering Holloman had to retire from that injury 4 years prior, you would of thought the team would of had first hand knowledge of what that injury can do to a career.
IIRC they knew about the injury during the draft process, which was that red flag medical rumor was about just prior to the draft.

Sturm had an article about the 2018 draft, where early on they locked onto LVE and just stuck with him. They knew his agent well, IIRC.
