No but I strained real hard and then felt a tug.

Seriously though I was wanting to see that episode tonight. Just missed it.

Have you seen nearly every current show on that channel is now going to the bayou to make a cajun version of it?

It's nearly unreal.

that les paul was high prices but under $100k - one of the most expensive things i've seen them go after.

cajun tosses out $500,000 for effect, not reality. i just don't care.

Given that there are about a jillion Les Pauls out there, I'm assuming it was a special edition??

I would assume, by the money you were throwing around, it wasn't one of the 57 Les Paul Customs, the one given two affectionate nicknames by players-- the Black Beauty, or the Fretless Wonders... as wonderful as those instruments are, current market value on them appears to be in the 20-30 k range, depending on condition...

Another very desirable, rather rare Les Paul is the 1958-1960 Les Paul Standard, with the Sunburst finish... the thing is, not all of them are ultra-valuable, you want the ones with what they called the "tiger stripe" sunburst finish... on those rare occasions that one of those hits the market, the bidding starts at around 250 k, and the selling price is often over 300 k... so a pawn shop might well offer 100 big ones for an instrument like that (if they know their guitars)...

Is my guess right?? If so, though I'm not a big fan of such shows-- my nephew loves them-- this is one I wish I'd seen... I think the Black Beautys are better players, but the Tiger Stripe is the Holy Grail of electric guitars for collectors, arguably the single most beautiful electric guitar ever created...

The guy that brought it in was Les Paul's nephew. The guitar was owned and played by his Aunt Mary Paul. All the work done on the guitar was by Les Paul. Included in the sale were original contracts with Gibson to make the guitars all signed by Les Paul. The only thing that would've made it better if it was Les's guitar.

While I love the show and they always have cool things on there, I'm always curious why some people bring things in there to sell when they are not in a big hurry to sell them, like that guitar, for instance. (Maybe he was in a hurry, I didn't catch all the back story)

The people never get what they could if they sold it privately and it seems a little ridiculous. Really...a Les Paul and all that paperwork...to a pawn shop?!

No kidding. Selling to a pawn shop is just ripping yourself off. It's just plain ignorant.

I love watching this show. It's always on the DVR. Most people who bring the expensive stuff to them are only doing it for the exposure. They know it will get on the air. Further, Rick, his kid Chum and the Old man aren't there all the time anymore. They go in when they know they have something big coming in and the film crew is scheduled to be there.

Also a lot of the stuff you see come in the Pawn Shop is culled by the production company. Some of the people who come there and say "I just wanted some extra money to gamble while here in Vegas" and they bring in a some ultra rare item, well, how often do you carry an ultra rare item with you on a plane when you go to Vegas to gamble?

I love history so that's why I watch the show but a lot of it is set up for filming.

Yeah it's a really fun show to watch to learn some history on some items and such but its pretty obvious that the majority of the show, as anyone would expect with TV, is completely set up.

I like this show and "American Pickers". The guys on "American Pickers" just seem so likeable and they meet some interesting people.

My friend met them when they were around Augusta, GA in March 2010. They were out grabbing breakfast and she spotted them in the parking lot of Dunkin Donuts or some such.

She said they were the nicest guys in person, exactly like how they are on the show.

i'm an avid watcher of this show also.

best i can do is when they came through texas a friend of mine was driving home and passed them on the highway, saw who they were and came back to wave. he waved back with a big grin and my friend drove on.

true story. >g<

I love Pawn Stars but it's getting too scripted imo! When it first came out it was more off the cuff and now it's "too Hollywood" but I understand with the popularity of the show they kinda had to go that route. Has anyone watched Storage Wars or Auction Hunters? I love Storage Wars and Auction Hunters is pretty good. The Cajun Pawn Stars show is just ok but that one guy Joker is hilarious!

I thought you sold this guitar because you weren't impressed. It is beautiful and I love Les Pauls. As soon as I can legitimize it in my budget, I'll be buying one.
