I want to see Bledsoe just go out there and sling it on first down, go deep, hit Whitten a few dozen times, see Price go long! Conservative gets you to the end of a game and losing on 4th and 4!

Man, I second that. It's clear that Bledsoe has great touch on the deep ball. It's also clear that the offense can make big plays when given the chance. So versus one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, we should have opened up the playbook and been very aggressive. That's what wins in this league. By making opposing defenses respect the deep pass that should open up things for Julius running the ball too. Let er rip Parcells!!

i have to agree with you, we're waaaaay too conservative, and why? our defense isn't what it should be at this point... while our defense has shown flashes of brillance, it's far too inconsistent, we have to put games away... i wanna see an 80 yard flea flicker to start the game off against the eagles next game, if we don't start out with a big play, we'll be dominated by them as we were last year in the MNF game... we must set the tempo of the game, and it must not be in a "conservative way"... the cowboys can do this, they just have to be given the opportunity..

personally i'd like to see on one drive a peyton manning type offense, one where bledsoe calls the plays at the LOS... just try it, for one quarter or even one drive... we have the talent on offense, lets make them put up the numbers we need to win games... all our games this year have been decided by less than a touchdown, as exciting a game that can be, i'd rather see us up 14-0 going into the 2nd half of a football game

Well, here's the irony...

Parcells clearly has no patience for a young starting QB.

So he goes out and gets a veteran in Bledsoe..

Then...he game plans and has Payton play call as if a rookie is at QB.

This is all insane.

I agree...line 'em up and let 'er rip.

It's amazing...in the 4th quarter the offense comes alive.

It's truly crappy play calling against a piss poor defense like Oakland's. Warren Sapp got a sack...that's horrible!

I agree to a point. Either of our back ups would have gotten killed yesterday though. Bledsoe will make some mistakes but its better than what we are doing right now.

But the thing is Juke HE KNOWS (Parcells) what I know... Drew Bledsoe is not capable of "slinging it" all over the field without becoming a turnover machine. It didn't work in Buffalo and it will not work here. Bledsoe is more limited than what most people think, that post on this board.

The offense "came alive" due to a busted play by the Raiders' defense. That was as much luck as it were anything else.

ok, so far when bledsoe's been asked to make passes he has, the interception in the raider game was pointless because of the hail mary... the first interception in the niner game was a pass that bledsoe shouldn't have made.... the second interception of the niner game was a great defensive play, not bledsoe's fault..

i didn't watch buffalo over the past few years when bledsoe was there, but i did watch him in buffalo his first year and that was because my mom loved him in new england and thought he got jipped there and wanted to see him excel in buffalo, and his first year there he put up some numbers.. 4300 yards 24 tds 15 ints with a 61.5% of his passes being completed.. the other 2 years in buffalo he didn't break 3000, so, how can you say that he can't "sling it around the field"?

i'm not saying i want bledsoe to go deep on every pass, but we've got to use him like a real offensive coordinator would... he has a powerful arm that can make alot of throws.. if we take the lead early then we use our run game in a conservative manner, but whats the point in being conservative from the start of the game until we're down and need the points? bledsoe's already put up 1000 yards passing, and that's us being "conservative" until the last 5 minutes of the game

Turnovers don't always come from an int. ;)

You put Bledsoe in a position where the defense knows that Bledsoe is passing on every down and you're just begging for trouble.

oh yeah, i see what you're saying, i didn't take fumbles into consideration, so i see why you wouldn't want him holding the ball long... especially if we let blitzers come free like they were last game.. but i don't mean pass every down! just be unpredictable at least a little, and it's hard to be unpredictable if we run the ball every first and second downs and then on third down throw the ball to key

Agree with you here since 2nd half of skins game.

It's as if Herm Edwards has taken over our playcalling & gameday management.

gonna be an up/down 8-8 season it appears (if we can muster a few wins in our own division that is).

Well you could pretty much say that about any QB. But in our case it's not just because Bledsoe himself would screw it up. Probably because we'd end up getting him killed. Then we'd have to revert back to the young kid QB's that Parcells doesnt want to use to begin with.

Even if you keep the reins on Bledsoe it obviously gives you a better chance to win than with the kids.

Eventually as the season progresses he might turn him loose, even at the start of games if thats the only chance we have to compete.

So far he hasnt felt compelled to do that because he didnt feel he needed to. It's not like in our losses we got blown out. Kinda funny actually that in the 2 games where the D didnt give up over 20 points, it was the same games where we didnt score more than 13.

I'm sure he, like most the rest of us, is pretty surprised that the running game just cant get it going (in any truly controlling kind of way). If that continues, it's just another reason to open it up a lil more. Whether he'd just as soon play it that way or not.

In 03 for example he prolly knew the running game was gonna blow chunks so he opened it up sooner to try and help it. This year, with an upgrade or 2 in the line and the way JJ finished last year, he's prolly been trying to do it the other way around.

Not to mention that if his QB in 03 woulda got jacked up, the drop off to the 2nd stringer wouldnt have been nearly as dramatic. ;)

The reason the running game is going nowhere is because we HAVEN'T opened up the playbook. If Parcells wants to control the clock with the run, he has to either get an new Oline or open the book and pass first, run second. The Raiders did nothing on defense. We played better defense than they did the entire game. But we did not go for the throat, even when we were down 10-0. It's funny that Parcells trusts Keshawn enough to throw a 40yd pass to JJ, who is covered, before he let Bledsoe do it. Not on ball was thrown over 10 yards until Glenn caught his pass. That's pathetic, and everyone is wondering where our running game is? We're running against 11 guys in an 8yd box, where are we supposed to run?

At least give other teams the thought that we could do this.

If you are D co-ordinator coming into to play us you say this to your team.

Run Blitz on first down.
Watch the draw on second down.
Third downs....double Witten and blitz.
Watch for 1 trick play per game.

The end.

You guys are on target. I was at the Raiders game. Talk about no fear of our Offense. Julias has no space because Payton refuses to call a deep play unless we are down in the 4th. That 3rd and 13 with minutes left yesturday was a complete prayer. Imagine what we can do, if we say, actually have some play action and get another step on em. Hell, maybe Glenn can take it all the way in this time. Sling the dang ball downfield once or twice in the first half Payton. Atleast the other team knows you got it in the book and you keep them honest, otherwise, I'll be your QB, cuz I can throw a good screen pass and hand it off to Julias, you will save millions.
