I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm going to chime in anyway. Let's say that Dak is a totally average QB, middle of the pack. That means there might be 15 guys that we know are better at the position than he is. Given that, what are the odds were going to find one better than him - and cheap? Has this organization wowed you with their ability to identify and acquire QB talent? They lucked into Romo, they lucked into Dak (how hard did they try to move up to get Paxton Lynch?). They have never had or developed even a good backup during the last 20 plus years. The last really good backup we even other than Romo had was probably Steve Beuerlein. This is an organization who thought Quincy, Hutch, Henson, Ryan Leaf and a million other stiffs were legitimate QB prospects.
Letting Dak walk without having a solid replacement lined up seems like the kind of thing that would get a real GM fired. Of course it can't happen here, and that's the real problem. The only thing that will spark a culture change would be if Jerry and Stephen fired each other. As long as we've got owners who think they are GMs and who sit in on coaches meetings and talk to the press as if they are coaching the team, nothing will change. Letting Dak walk would just put them on the Mount Rushmore of inept football management. Imagine trying to hire a new coach after you tell him you will be micromanaging him every step of the way, and 'by the way' we got rid of our QB and don't even have a high draft pick to replace him. But we really like this Cooper Rush guy...
