The preseason doesn't mean anything except to stay healthy. I repeat the preseaon doesnt mean anything. The Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Bucs and even the Eagles use to be known to go 3-1 or 4-0 in the preseaon back in the 90's and look how bad they stunk. Ware could have 4 sacks tomorrow but what does that mean???? Nothing. Most of the time teams will use vanilla offenses and defenses. The schemes are so easy to beat that it doesnt tell us anything. The four sacks just means hes getting his work in. Its not were going 12-4 because of how we played in the preseason. we wont know until week one when teams disguse coverages and have a gameplan.

You cant win anything in the preseason but you sure can lose it in the preseason. So lets stay healthy first and foremost and let our guys get there work in. Besides that the preseaon has no puropse on how good or bad a team is in the reg season.

And throw in Spurrier's Skins as well for having blazing preseason records-to be frank, he GAVE AWAY his entire playbook throughout these periods, to the point where all of their reg season opponents had game tape on them.

I always thought preseason showed who had quality depth... I mean it is your backups playing the majority of the game...

Pre-season is about depth and heart.
The Win-Loss record is meaningless.

Preseason is about situations. How a particular formation looks against another team, so an evaluation can be made.

BP stated he would talk to the opposing coach before the game to see what he wanted to work on.

As far as predicting W-L record or even how a team will perform in the regular season, preseason means nothing.

I've always thought that preseason was a time for the individuals to shine, the young players who are trying to make the roster. For the vets, it is just a tuneup.

Just because it doesn't mean the same as a regular season game does not make a pre-season game mean nothing. It does mean something. You just have to find what that something is.

It could be determining whether your young back up QB is capable of taking over the starting role someday. That happened last year with Romo.

It is finding quality back ups.

It is finding guys to fill special teams duties.

It is getting starters re-acclimated to game preparation and game speed. Practice is good, but it is still just a simulation. Nothing beats real competition. It is just a pre-season game, but pass rushers aren't tip toeing toward the QB.

There several things that are relevant and important to pre-season games. Maybe it does not take 4 or 5 pre-season games to accomplish what needs to be accomplished, but the games have a significant role in getting teams ready for the season. Unfortunately there is also the risk of injuries. That risk is always there. It is there in practice, it is there in real games. It is part of the game. It is also there in the rest of life. Erik Williams was not hurt doing anything football related and that injury hampered the team.

You know what though , there have been many years where our 1st team offense could not move the ball against the first team defense in the first and second qtrs.

W/L does not mean much, but you sure can tell some things, like someone said earlier about the depth issue. There are a few things you cab glean from preseason and by that basis many guys are cut from the NFL - so...

I disagree!!

More money in the owners pocket???

Seriously this is all you need to know about pre-season.

Last years pre-season... Colts 0 - 4 .... Raiders 4 - 0

Thing I have always seen about pre-season it is about the individuals more than team. Guys are pushing to try and catch the coaches eye to have a chance to make the team. Plays are called to get a better look at a certain players in particular situations. Win or lose is not that important getting out of the games with no injuries tops all concerns.

Here's an interesting trivia tidbit for you. Only 4 times in NFL has one of the teams from the Hall of Fame game made it to the Super Bowl. All 4 who made it, lost the Super Bowl.

Forget I ever hoped for the Cowboys to play in the Hall of Fame game. I don't like the voodoo.

The Cowboys have played in the HOF game twice in my tenure as a Dallas fan. 1979 and 1999. Both years they lost in the first round of the playoffs.

20 years between trips works for me. 2019 is far enough away not to worry.
