Let's be honest here about what happened with McCarthy

Jerry's plan was to hope the deadline would add pressure to McCarthy and get him to take a deal on his terms. I think the fact there was so much interest from other teams interested in interviewing McCarthy surprised Jerry. Jerry suddenly lost his leverage and McCarthy, sitting on a pile of money already and knowing he may have other options, waited out Jerry.

This also highlights, yet again, how unfit Jerry is at running this team. First, the decision on McCarthy should have been made weeks ago. And if the decision was that you wanted him back (which seems to be the case), then you get that deal done immediately. Playing chicken with a HC is absurd. The most profitable franchise in sports haggling over years with a coach you want back and then lose when he calls your bluff? Even more absurd. What a disaster.

Now, if the decision was you didn't want him back, feelers should have been sent out immediately to names like Belichick, Vrabel, etc. The worst case scenario is deciding you wanted McCarthy back, play games with him to then lose him at the last second over your stupid attempt to leverage him into a real favorable deal for you and then have some of your better targets already be far along (or hired) by other places.

It's no surprise that's the path the Cowboys chose. Buckle up fans, it's going to be another in a string of disasterous offseasons.
Well said.

Everyone should consider it a huge red flag that they were willing to make a half-hearted decision on a head freakin' coach as long as the years/$$$ worked in their interest. This is an abominable way to handle such an impactful decision. Now they are trying to cover their tracks by claiming no discussions were made about contract. LOL. Ok, if that's the case, what was the hold up the last several days?

Absolutely. However, there is a deeper point. NE never signed high priced FA's, and told every player who wanted more money to go take a hike, except for DT's and OL's.

Cincy is currently seeing their team fall apart after paying Burrows and Chase.
yeah i liked bills model of getting rid of players sooner rather than later. again though, i think it's a luxury of having such a talent at qb. we've seen it in kc as well with tyreek, and their initial hard balling with chris jones. when you have THE guy, everything else is secondary.

but bottom line is the cowboys specifically are more likely to improve by spending money than not.

The England, they would trade their first round draft pick after their rookie season for another first round draft pick. And then sometimes they would trade that first drown draft pick for two draft picks.

That’s what we were talking about earlier Jerry, his players and the loyalty. They overstepped the head coach and run to Jerry when they don’t like something. And he steps on the coaches toes. That has gut to stop, but it won’t.

Maybe. So far, Jerry spending money on FA's has had the opposite effect, it has made the team worse.

Belly always had ideas on future drafts. In a weak draft, he'd trade away until he came to a good, deep, strong draft. And then have a ton of 2nd round picks. Why? Because they're cheaper.

McCarthy is a solid B+ coach, I doubt the replacement is better. I’m ready for a really bad few years.
B+ was never going to get this team to the finish line to the Superbowl. No deep playoff runs with McCarthy, was never going to happen. He never had this team ready to win late in the season, with lackluster game plans, questionable clock management and often a lack of 1st quarter success or energy.

So, it's time to move on...hec, after the Green Bay game, it was time to move on.

I doubt there was that much interest.

Chicago wanted to interview him when Dallas objected, but Chicago is interviewing everybody.

According to The Chicago Tribune’s interview tracker, the Bears have already spoken with Johnson (Lions OC), Aaron Glenn (Lions DC), Mike Kafka (Giants OC), Anthony Weaver (Dolphins DC), Drew Petzing (Cardinals DC), longtime NFL coach Ron Rivera and interim head coach Thomas Brown in addition to interviewing Carroll and Vrabel.

NFL Network is also reporting that the Bears have upcoming interviews scheduled with the following candidates: Brian Flores (Vikings DC), Kliff Kingsbury (Commanders OC), Todd Monken (Ravens OC) and Arthur Smith (Steelers OC).

The Saints are interviewing multiple candidates as well, including Moore, Johnson and the Bills OC. Jets have interviewed 8 folks already and also interviewing for GMs. Jaguars have 10 interviews lined up.

McCarthy signed Don Yee, meaning the agent of Sean Payton and Harbaugh. These guys are making over 16 million a year and have total control. Dan Campbell makes 12 million. Most coaches are getting 5 years now.

Agent’s also talk and are “sources”, meaning they will try and put out information that their client is wanted by multiple clubs.

McCarthy wanted too much money probably. And Jerry wouldn’t be tied down to 5 years with McCarthy at that cost.
