Let's be honest here about what happened with McCarthy

I am starting wonder how some of Jerry's outside business ventures are doing because supposedly this team prints an annusl 400 million profit. Yet Jerry throws nickles around like they are manhole covers.
This is my thought as well. There is no reason for the idiot owner to lowball coaches and only get the 2nd and 3rd level FAs. It is like he is actually in financial trouble, like paying off hookers, pimps, illegitimate kid's and their moms. Hmmmmmm....

Jerry's plan was to hope the deadline would add pressure to McCarthy and get him to take a deal on his terms. I think the fact there was so much interest from other teams interested in interviewing McCarthy surprised Jerry. Jerry suddenly lost his leverage and McCarthy, sitting on a pile of money already and knowing he may have other options, waited out Jerry.

This also highlights, yet again, how unfit Jerry is at running this team. First, the decision on McCarthy should have been made weeks ago. And if the decision was that you wanted him back (which seems to be the case), then you get that deal done immediately. Playing chicken with a HC is absurd. The most profitable franchise in sports haggling over years with a coach you want back and then lose when he calls your bluff? Even more absurd. What a disaster.

Now, if the decision was you didn't want him back, feelers should have been sent out immediately to names like Belichick, Vrabel, etc. The worst case scenario is deciding you wanted McCarthy back, play games with him to then lose him at the last second over your stupid attempt to leverage him into a real favorable deal for you and then have some of your better targets already be far along (or hired) by other places.

It's no surprise that's the path the Cowboys chose. Buckle up fans, it's going to be another in a string of disasterous offseasons.
I was coming on here to post this exact same thing and you said it way better than I could have, so thank you. You are spot on with what happened. My only hope is that the media picks up on this and embarrassing the heck out of Jerry.

The man couldn't even let Cooper Rush get a 250k bonus.

Pretty easy to piece together.

1. Jerry wanted to fire him after the GB loss but didn’t want to pay two coaches

2. Having already decided on #1, Jerry pouts and refuses to improve the roster at all, thus making it even easier to justify moving on.

3. Realizing that none of the good candidates want to come here, makes last minute pitch for MM to stay if he takes a pay cut and gives up play calling. Jerry knows MM will never agree to this which gives him even more cover.

I could see that being the reason, but I can also see them not wanting to bring him back or being lukewarm using negotiations as the reason they didn't bring him back. They were in an awkward spot with a number of players wanting him back and maybe went to the table with a deal in mind they knew he wouldn't take. If they wanted him he would be back, no question about that.

As fans we should be happy there's a new coach, but hope they don't mess it up.

If you’re paying attention at all, Jerry told us what he was up to.

He probably offered 2/10 or 3/15 at most, with a 10m bonus for making the playoffs and a 25m bonus for winning the Super Bowl. That’s what he expects someone to sign up for when him and his kid and whoever else aren’t capable of fielding a winning roster and everyone knows it.

Right into the ground it’s going…and I’m not unhappy. Better than perpetual mediocrity.

Jerry , again, waited and got burned. He could have interviewed both Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn last week. But now he has to wait until their seasons are over. So, his foot dragging cost him that window.

What the lack of urgency tells me is that Jerry completely expected MM to return. MM walking away was not expected.
i dont agree I think he would take McCarthy on short term contract but he almost fired him last year. I think Jerry angry about the Packers playoff game.

Low ball offer, short contract years. MM found a backbone. As for Belichick he’s available if Jerry wants to pay problem is Jerry is not giving up any power. Gruden is a guy like MM was wanting to get back in the game and he may be the next yes man in waiting
MM is so much stronger than you guys give him credit for.

Jerry's tactic and the end result could be seen coming, from outer space. The great negotiator was out negotiated by Big Mike in the long run, showing us all Jerry has lost his fast ball, and what to expect in the future is even more in doubt than ever. The worst is yet to come. It's funny how some people think nothing of spending a boat load of money just to save a nickel. Jerry had some top picks to pick from at the start, not saying the remaining choices are not good at what they do but now will have to settle, instead. What was it that Buster Scruggs said just before he keeled over after looking into his hat? Oh yeah, he said, well that ain't good.

It tells us what we already know. Jerry is not interested in championships and football.success. anything he says is just a spin. We all know that

You have to think McCarthy covets the Steelers job, which could have led him to play particularly "hard to get" with Jerry.

McCarthy is a solid B+ coach, I doubt the replacement is better. I’m ready for a really bad few years.

McCarthy didn't earn another 5 years. I could see giving him another year or two but he simply didn't do enough in the playoffs to get another 5 years.
Exactly. MM was hired here to get the team over the hump and actually win and advance in the playoffs - he failed to do that. Time to move on. He had Jason Garrett like success basically. I am not sure why so many on here are now crying about MM not coming back when so many on here cried for his head after the GB debacle.

I think Kellen Moore will be out next coach (Jason Garrett 2.0) and we will go 8-9. Meanwhile, I think Mike goes to Chicago and leads them to the playoffs. Hold on to your tails fans.

It comes down to either you believe in the coach and want him back or not. Clearly, Jerry didn't have a clear plan as usual.

I think it was actually MM who pulled the plug on negotiations, according to Jane Slater.

No he was desperate for a job and said anything to get it, threw anyone under the bus to keep it and his limitations caught up to him and he finally learned to say no to Jerry. When if he gets a new HC job he knows it’s his last, saying I know how to win SBs don’t mean anything, results do and he didn’t produce and he has no one to blame but himself
