Yes, the loss hurt tonight. Trust me, I've been a fan since either the 1999 or 2000 season. I've yet to see success with this franchise. I know it's demoralising to lose the way that we did today. However, let's take a moment to look at this rationally. Ok?

  • Green Bay - Green Bay is a team that was desperate for a win. With Minnesota winning as they have been and a favourable schedule for the rest of the season when they finish with us, Green Bay likely was aware coming into this game that their chances of winning their division is slipping away. Furthermore, their chances at a wildcard aren't great either. So, we were taking on a team who was playing desperately for a win. They played great, and they always play us at their best. So, if we thought we were going to get an easy win coming into today, then that's a massive error. Especially given our less than stellar record as a franchise in that stadium.
  • Our Record - We are 6-3. Yes, our division is difficult, but we are 6-3. Considering that we had a backup QB playing for 4 games and how we thought this season would go after the Bucs game, it's an impressive record. We should be in position for at least a playoff spot.
  • The Division - the division was going to be hard to win as it was. We are likely getting a wildcard spot, and I don't think the outcome of today's game was reasonably going to change that outcome.
  • The remaining schedule - after the Vikings game, our remaining schedule is the following: Giants (Thanksgiving), Colts, @ Jacksonville, Houston, Philly, @ Tennessee, and @ Washington. So, let's assume we lose the Vikings game, that's a favourable schedule afterwards. I think, after the Vikings game, I could see us going 4-3 or even 5-2 down the stretch (unsure how we will do with the Giants). Let's say we go 4-4 for the rest of the season. That means that we would finish the regular season 10-7. Given that 7 NFC Teams make the playoffs, that should net us a playoff spot. That's in likely the worst case scenario. So, I think, at worst, we finish the season 10-7 with a playoff spot. Coincidentally, I think that's about where a lot of optimistic predictions had this team funny enough. So, all in all, things aren't horrible for the Cowboys. Are they ideal? No. But we should be able to get a playoff spot.
In conclusion, as painful as it is to lose to a team we don't like such as Green Bay in the way that we did, the season isn't lost. We played a team that was desperate for a win and caught us on a bad day. However, in the worst rational scenario that I can see, I think that we should finish as a 10 win team minimum. This should get us a playoff spot. From there, anything can happen. Hopefully the team will get back to work tomorrow to learn from what happened, and they can sort out some solutions to our weaknesses such as our run defence and get back to winning ways.

we need WR Washington to help . Hopefully he can be a deep threat and has some wheels

That is a much needed fix to the team, along with fixing the run defence. Our run defence is poor, and we need help at WR. I think if we get either a better run defence or Washington to step in, I could see us going 5-2 down the stretch or better.

Say what you want, this team simply doenst have what it takes to do anything special. Yah we will probably make the playoffs. But SF will beat us again and any number of teams. We will probably being going into SF or Tampa in round one and we will lose.

Rational thinking would lead one to believe the typical Dallas Cowboys story.

By some wacky happenstance, we make the playoffs, only to get blown out by either the 49ers or Bucs in the first round. Rinse, wash, repeat for next year. We will crash in the 2nd half of the season after the Bye week (as expected), and we will get a meddling draft pick. Just a joke overall.

If any of us had rational thinking, we wouldn’t be fans of the cowboys knowing how often they lose year in and year out for the same dumb reasons— constant penalties, bad coaching, bad QB play, inept playcalling, horrid defense, and putrid attitudes. The only fools in this entire equation are us, the fans for ever believing this team will do something different every year.

That may be, and it'll probably be yet another year of me not seeing success with this team. However, I do think we make the playoffs again. I think how far we go depends on two things. 1. Better run defence. This has been killing us and we just got beaten because of that. 2. Getting better WRs. We likely will have James Washington back for Thanksgiving, and we might well sign OBJ. If we get JW, that should help improve our WRs. OBJ could help us be able to find another gear. However, as it stands right now, I think the rational end for our season is a 10-7 record and being knocked out by about the divisional round.

As a fan who hasn't seen success, I see what you're saying, but I'm too far invested to stop being a Cowboys fan lol. That said, I wrote this thread as a way to provide a logical examination of what I think happened today and how I think the rest of this season will play out.

Getting OBJ isnt going to help the defense give up 14 points in the 4th quarter. We basically got beat by a rookie WR that has done nothing all year long. And if were being honest here, its been the defense for the most part over the years folding when its mattered the most. Even with Romo it was the same. EVERY GB loss has been the defense folding late in games or on game losing drives with Rogers.

Rationally this team still can't get it done in big games and that doesn't bode well for the playoffs.

Many would say playing a reeling 3-6 Packer team that has lost 5 in a row isn't a big game but McCarthy's first game back in GB and the chance to finally get the Rogers monkey off our back to me made it a big game for Dallas and again they come up short. Make all the excuses you want, this has been the Dallas MO the past 25+ years.

I know that he wouldn't help our defence from folding like a cheap tent the way that they did. However, perhaps he might have helped us extend our drives on offense a bit more. Also, stopping the run would have helped as it could have helped Parsons be freed up for going after Rodgers.

What am I supposed to do? Give up on this team and find something else to do? No, I'm not going to do that. Nor am I suggesting that we are making a deep run this year. I think this is a 10-7 team that goes out by the division round, which I think is probably about accurate for where the team will end up.

A lot of fans who thought things had really changed got a wake up call tonight.

Sort of hard to expect change when the man at the helm has been the same for a long time and his son isn't much better. Logically speaking, Jerry could keep playing the coaching merry-go-round for the next 20 years, and it won't change anything until he gets out the way and tells Stephen to get the best players that we can get. Micah Parsons is a good start, but we need more than him on defence. Frankly, I don't think we will get much better coaching than Mike if Jerry runs him off. I doubt Sean Payton would agree to coach here, and logically, he wouldn't.

I don't know why he would come here when he'll have his pick of teams.

Not only that, but he was here with Parcells, so he got to see what working for Jerry is like, and that was with Jerry being subdued trying to get his new stadium and being subdued by Parcells. So, no, Payton isn't going to coach here. I hate to say this, but Moore is going to be HC as nobody else will agree to do it. I'd take Quinn, and I think he's the right choice, but, after he's snapped up, I think Moore is the next puppet.

A lot of fans who thought things had really changed got a wake up call tonight.

There was another thread asking “what would it take for you to believe?”
  • Eliminate slow starts
  • Eliminate Stupid Penalties
  • Strong play at DT and safety
I mentioned these aspects specifically because they’ve never really happened since the 90s, yet for some reason they never get fixed.

All of these things were once again problems tonight.

Same crap. Different year.

I’m not even numb. Just indifferent at this point.

It’s the exact same team as last year. They’ll beat up on average to bad teams and come up short vs anyone decent or a playoff team. They’ll lose to the Vikings , eagles , titans and if they lose to the giants they might not make the playoffs.

Can’t stress this enough. They are the exact same team as last year, but with worse receivers
