CFZ Let's Look at Things Rationally

What am I supposed to do? Give up on this team and find something else to do? No, I'm not going to do that. Nor am I suggesting that we are making a deep run this year. I think this is a 10-7 team that goes out by the division round, which I think is probably about accurate for where the team will end up.

Nothing wrong with rooting for the team, but like you said, this team is just not that good.

They are not going to make a deep playoff run, if anybody thinks otherwise, they are delusional. This team is a 10-7 or 9-8 team that will probably get a wildcard and get beat on the road in the 1st round. That is my expectation for this team.

The Cowboys helped launch Watsons NFL career . You can see with that running game if you give Rodgers time the passing game is deadly . I mentioned in the draft forum before it went down that Watson would be an interesting choice in Dallas although I’m very glad Tyler Smith is a Cowboy .

Watson is exactly the kind of tall fast athlete that would complement a CD Lamb more then a Gallup . Maybe next April that can be a McClay project . In no way shape or form would it be smart to buy OBJ services for multiple years given his year to year injuries .

Rationally, we are what we all thought we would be before the season started. Green Bay is doo doo, and you can spin their "desperation" all you want. If we were for real, a desperate bad team still doesn't beat us.

The loss today was horrible, and I very much wanted us to put the dagger into their season. That said, I'm not going to call this season over, nor am I going to panic over the loss. I'm just calling it what it was. A bad loss to a desperate team. We're good enough to make the playoffs, and we might sneak out a wildcard win. However, the ceiling for us I think is the division round, and the FO's cheapness in the offseason is going to haunt them.

Problem is that Jerry was cheap in the offseason, and it's going to be why we don't go to the Super Bowl.

Also, OBJ shouldn't be a multi-year thing. However, we should bring him in as a rental.

For "anything to happen" in the playoffs, you have to be a smart, disciplined team. That means being prepared with a good gameplan, players avoiding stupid/unforced penalties (false starts, offsides, personal fouls, etc.), protecting the ball, and coaches doing their job on the sideline.

The Cowboys do none of that well. They have talent but lack the mental awareness and discipline to be a great team that can go on a run in January. If they make the playoffs, they are likely to do something stupid like the ending of the SF game.

Thread 2 for the night

Yes, the loss hurt tonight. Trust me, I've been a fan since either the 1999 or 2000 season. I've yet to see success with this franchise. I know it's demoralising to lose the way that we did today. However, let's take a moment to look at this rationally. Ok?

  • Green Bay - Green Bay is a team that was desperate for a win. With Minnesota winning as they have been and a favourable schedule for the rest of the season when they finish with us, Green Bay likely was aware coming into this game that their chances of winning their division is slipping away. Furthermore, their chances at a wildcard aren't great either. So, we were taking on a team who was playing desperately for a win. They played great, and they always play us at their best. So, if we thought we were going to get an easy win coming into today, then that's a massive error. Especially given our less than stellar record as a franchise in that stadium.
  • Our Record - We are 6-3. Yes, our division is difficult, but we are 6-3. Considering that we had a backup QB playing for 4 games and how we thought this season would go after the Bucs game, it's an impressive record. We should be in position for at least a playoff spot.
  • The Division - the division was going to be hard to win as it was. We are likely getting a wildcard spot, and I don't think the outcome of today's game was reasonably going to change that outcome.
  • The remaining schedule - after the Vikings game, our remaining schedule is the following: Giants (Thanksgiving), Colts, @ Jacksonville, Houston, Philly, @ Tennessee, and @ Washington. So, let's assume we lose the Vikings game, that's a favourable schedule afterwards. I think, after the Vikings game, I could see us going 4-3 or even 5-2 down the stretch (unsure how we will do with the Giants). Let's say we go 4-4 for the rest of the season. That means that we would finish the regular season 10-7. Given that 7 NFC Teams make the playoffs, that should net us a playoff spot. That's in likely the worst case scenario. So, I think, at worst, we finish the season 10-7 with a playoff spot. Coincidentally, I think that's about where a lot of optimistic predictions had this team funny enough. So, all in all, things aren't horrible for the Cowboys. Are they ideal? No. But we should be able to get a playoff spot.
In conclusion, as painful as it is to lose to a team we don't like such as Green Bay in the way that we did, the season isn't lost. We played a team that was desperate for a win and caught us on a bad day. However, in the worst rational scenario that I can see, I think that we should finish as a 10 win team minimum. This should get us a playoff spot. From there, anything can happen. Hopefully the team will get back to work tomorrow to learn from what happened, and they can sort out some solutions to our weaknesses such as our run defence and get back to winning ways.
I'm a little worried about that Giants game. A mobile QB and Saquan doesn't bode well for our defense. Unless we shore up the running defense that Giants game also scares me.

Green bay is literally the bottom of the barrel trash team. Cowboys are in a tight division and they drop a game like this ? They are not a good team . Face reality .

Did I say we were going far in the playoffs? No. I think the farthest we go is the division round. We're good enough to make the playoffs, especially with our remaining schedule. However, that's all I can really say positively.

Which is where the 4-4 (including the Vikings game) prediction comes in play, which means we'd finish 10-7.

Rational thinking would lead one to believe the typical Dallas Cowboys story.

By some wacky happenstance, we make the playoffs, only to get blown out by either the 49ers or Bucs in the first round. Rinse, wash, repeat for next year. We will crash in the 2nd half of the season after the Bye week (as expected), and we will get a meddling draft pick. Just a joke overall.

If any of us had rational thinking, we wouldn’t be fans of the cowboys knowing how often they lose year in and year out for the same dumb reasons— constant penalties, bad coaching, bad QB play, inept playcalling, horrid defense, and putrid attitudes. The only fools in this entire equation are us, the fans for ever believing this team will do something different every year.

SAID PERFECTLY!!!!!!!

Why waste time with all that text here is the primary reason here below.....

Okay Rusty as pissed off as I am I'm going to look at this rationally

We had an extra week to prepare for this team and are coaching staff did not get us prepared mentally or physically.

Our receivers were not on the same page as our quarterback and this is inexcusable after a bye week to prepare this led to two interceptions and set the stage for our demise at lambeau Field.

We were not mentally prepared seeming to get unsportsman-like conduct penalties on the special teams every time we were punted the ball we would start deep in our own and because stupid penalties. Along with of course idiot Tolbert who couldn't get lined up with the ball.

The league has our defense's number and realizes we can't stop the run at all we have been exposed and will only continue to be further exposed in this area trust me this will not get better even if we do make the playoffs.

Our coaching was not aggressive it was desperate and sad to watch.

But beyond all that Green Bay is a bad team right now and we had a great chance to win but as always the referees were not going to let that happen. They sealed our loss to a bad Green Bay team in lambeau Field.

Weighing all this rationally if we do manage to lock into the playoffs it will be a quick exit and pretty much a repeat of last year unfortunately.

This team is not going on the road in the first round of the playoffs and beating anybody. We will get a wild card and go one and done, yet again. Dan will throw picks, they will get those timely costly penalties this team just loves to get so much for the dumbest things, and of course the coaching will kill us too. As usual

we need WR Washington to help . Hopefully he can be a deep threat and has some wheels
I’m sorry I just don’t see WR as a big issue . Our defense is far and away the biggest threat to team success

we do need WRs to get on the correct page. Both ints were the result of wrong routes ( although the one in the end zone was real bad)
We had a similar issue with CeeDee a couple of games ago running wrong route

we are average at best at corner across from Diggs . We are average at best at linebacker
I’m so disappointed in Micah and his ability to stop run and LVE just seems slow

most of the run issues appear to be on the edge

so we can blame WR or we can blame QB and yes we could use upgrades but with both we are good enough to win it is the run defense is the #1 issue

Rationally this team still can't get it done in big games and that doesn't bode well for the playoffs.

Many would say playing a reeling 3-6 Packer team that has lost 5 in a row isn't a big game but McCarthy's first game back in GB and the chance to finally get the Rogers monkey off our back to me made it a big game for Dallas and again they come up short. Make all the excuses you want, this has been the Dallas MO the past 25+ years.
losers lose

You could always start a thread about how signing Sean Peyton would take us to the Superbowl. That would be good for a few laughs as well.
Look at our schedule. Do you know what the Titans, Giants, and Eagles all have in common that we can't seem to stop?
