Thats how to fail at the draft. I take a higher rated player of a position that we dont need than reaching for lesser player of need. Or trade down.
"BPA at a position of need" is just a fancy way of saying " Drafting by need"

Its how you sell drafting for need to the masses

Highest rated player on the board at 27 is a TE.

You taking him?

Right, because OT, C and G weren't needs when we took Tyson, Frederick, and Martin. Is that what you believe?

Forget about Suh, he isn't coming here.

If Suh and Dez are signed, then 4 guys on this team will eat up a large chunk of cap space: Romo, T.Smith, Dez and Suh.

How are we going to build a complete team if our salary cap is devoted to 4 guys? Forget about signing Martin, Frederick, Hitchens, etc. when the time comes... As much as Suh would help this team, it's not realistic to think that we could afford him. Same goes for Bryant, I don't want to see this team hand over a boat load of money to one player when it could be spread around to numerous others that could make this team better. The teams playing in the Super Bowl this year don't have any superstar wide receivers, except for Gronkowski. Build up the defensive line, go get a couple of good receivers to complement Williams and Beasley, draft a CB, RB, possibly a QB in the 2nd, and some lineman and this team will be headed in the right direction.

can't play this game because it's back in the cap sink hole we're trying to crawl out of.
But knowing Jerry "Wild Horses Couldn't Drag Him Away".

we would still need an edge rusher, but without Carr or Murray, you create holes there as well

If he is the obvious BPA available then yes.

However, BPA isn't always that clear cut and dry. While you may say that a particular player is the best available at his position, you may have him rated similar to others at other positions. It's not always easy to compare players across multiple positions so you may have a few players clumped together instead of a definite list in perfect order.

What's to say Romo doesn't retire in the next 2-3years? He's 35 and not getting any younger. So in 2-3 years Romo's contract will be off the books leaving you with 3 big Contracts, Suh, Dez and Tyron. Also Sean Lee, Witten and Others contracts will be running out by then.

Jerry pretty much said in an interview that he would rather pay 2 or 3 players rather than pay the price for a single "Suh-type" contract.

I suppose it is...

I want absolutely want Dez back, but only at a reasonable price. There's no way that Jerry can afford Suh, Dez, and Murray without crippling the teams chances of resigning the best offensive line in the league down the road.
