Let's say we do blow it up

Who stays and who goes? Obviously Dak has to stay until his contract expires (or we just eat a ridiculous amount of cap). I think Steele is an obvious cap cut (he stinks and has a big cap hit).

But where are the biggest cap liabilities otherwise? Not every big cap hit is stinking it up, but if we WERE to blow it up, who stays and who goes?

I am close to thinking we are in fire sale mode. Not because we can win 5-6 games this season, but I do NOT see us winning more than that.

I think nothing happens this year. Next year wholesale changes will happen.

Prescott stays, as 2026 will be his last year.

At RB I think they keep Williams one more year and draft another.

At WR they let Pickens walk and draft another with one of their 1st round picks.

At TE they draft another backup to replace Schoonmaker.

At OL Steele is a June 1st cut saving 14 million on cap. They draft another Tackle.

On the DL Williams, Fowler, and M.Smith are gone. Dallas will draft multiple DL.

Linebacker is where Dallas cleans house the most. I only see Overshown, James, and Liufau surviving. Many new players will be brought in.

Secondary, Diggs is the second June 1st cut saving 15.5 million. Hooker is cut saving another 7 million. Wilson isn't worth cutting as his cap hit 1.7 million and save nothing if he is cut.

To create more cap space restructure Lamb, T. Smith, Osa, Bland, and Ferguson. This will provide more than enough space to acquire players in free agency, if Dallas ever participates in free agency.

That's how I would start a rebuild.

Nice. You're hired.

this was a good, well thought out post.
good job

These are our rebuilding years. Those extra 2 1st rounders are going to be vital in building this team up, and we have to hit on them. The way things are going right now, we're probably going to be picking top 10 with our picks. We need to bring in players on defense that have a dog mentality. DE and MLB should be priority these next 2 drafts. This defense has no identity now. Offense will be ok if Prescott is healthy.

Is that before or after we hear how great and competitive he thought this roster is

A lot of overpriced, mediocre vets need to hit the street next year.

Steele, Diggs, Wilson, Hooker. And all of the one year guys are as good as gone. The defense needs a complete overhaul in 2026, with pass rusher, LB, and S being the biggest needs (and that's assuming Revel pans out, which I doubt, personally).

On offense, the focus has got to be a legit WR. Pickens isn't someone you sign to a long-term deal (at least, not the Pickens we've seen so far). I wish they hadn't have signed Fergie, cause we need some speed at TE too. So far, it looks like their gamble to go cheap at RB and heavy at OL was a good one.

Give Dak one more year and look to draft a new QB in 2027, hopefully with a stronger defense and solid OL.

If they do decide to blow it up, which I don’t expect, then all of them go basically. CD you could probably trade for picks, Dak maybe as well even though the QB trade market is considerably cooled after some disastrous trades the past 5 years. Diggs and Steele are obvious cuts. They probably keep key OL members, Tyler Smith, Booker and Beebe, and with a little work hopefully Guyton. Osa, Bland and Ferguson are a bit more vague since they were recently resigned but I would get rid of them too honestly, unless the new coaching staff feels like they are a fit… and that brings me to the coaching staff because that is what you obviously overhaul first… if you were a good GM I mean.

The 26 draft is better for QB. 27 draft is a loaded I have read. It's a good years to rebuild

Jerry will do nothing. He will keep talking about playoffs until we are mathematically eliminated, then just use new staff and injuries as an excuse, and we'll get 'em next year.
Don't forget, he'll also tell us to cross our fingers and buy those jerseys.
He has all the faith in the world in.........

I know it's going to be high salary wise, but I'd try to keep Pickens if possible.

I don't care about anything the Jones' do because it will always end bad every year as I've watched for 30 years. Like I said this summer, it's groundhog day in Cowboys world, yet we get happy and enamored every year that this is the year. It's not.

Stop this coping nonsense, it’s just more Stockholm syndrome. Jerry is a senile egomaniac that believes he is has the NFL right where he wants them, “all in” 2.0 coming up. That “all in”? The late 1st from the Packers Jerry masterly added.

There is no plan and Jerry knows nothing about football past the year 1988. Just accept it and brace yourself…that’s the only plan.

Dak has to stay until the end of 2026 as long as we don’t restructure his contract. We’ll eat a bunch of dead money but it’s possible to do.

I think the bigger question to go along with who stays is when. I would prefer a massive blow up after next season. In fact I would be willing to part with one of the 2026 1 st rounders if it gave us extra picks in 27. So my blow it up fantasy would be this:
Don’t resign Pickens and get a 3rd round comp pick in 27
Trade the pick we got from GB to a team looking to move up for more 2027 picks, 2027 looks to be a good draft class
Do not restructure Dak’s deal again. Try and trade him after 2026 or cut him after 2026

Who stays that already has a 2nd contract: Lamb, Bland, maybe Ferguson, Tyler, Aubrey, Beebe (he’ll be up for a 2nd deal possibly) , Guyton if he improves. Then everyone else on rookie deals.

Sign a bridge/vet QB while we draft a young prospect to groom.

My plan is a massive blow it up and salary cap reboot heavily emphasizing the 2027 draft to restock.

Dak has been playing well I think. Steele needs to go and he really needs to be benched immediately because every hit Dak takes because of him shortens his career. Look at Tony Romo. He took a beating and it finally caught up to him.

Most of the defense needs to go. We still don't value the linebacker position just like the 90s when we let every single free agent leave. We've never replaced Darren woodson and it doesn't look like we ever will. We obviously need help at defensive end.

I was cautiously optimistic about this year, deep down I think I knew it was going to be like this, but man it's getting to the point to where I just don't care about this team anymore. The 10 years of Garrett did a number on me but every single year is the same dysfunctional garbage.

So why do people always think that you have to blow a team up and start over, that’s BS!!! I for one don’t want to go through a season watching us lose every game on purpose in hopes of getting better, by getting the first pick in the draft which has more chances of being a bust than good, SMH
