Let's stop clamoring over head coaches because it's pointless

Jerry’s camp carnivals don’t seem to be improving the Cowboys physicality. It also appears 2022 is going to be another penalty fest.

because why?? the 37 players that most won't be here were the ones playing PS game 1 A major, overreaction as usual.

id say most of the major penalties were being TOO physical. Those roughing the passer were gray area penalties but hard hits, those pancake blocks by Tsmith(LG) very physical ie tough,. Your argument is moot.

were they smart plays, no but most were ticky-tacky and again PRE-SEASON.. you say not tough, why then was the run game great and the run stop also great. sounds physical to me.

i saw the game im tired of the penalty's as well but not worried unless its the 53 players on the filed during a REAL game day that committing them, not in a PS game especially game 1 of the PS.!

good points….this is really the case across all sectors of the workforce

agree 100%. @erod could have substituted the word “Bosses” in place of coaches and the next paragraph would have worked as well……could have also use the words “police officers” as well

too many young men that have grown up with the government as their “fathers” and have never been taught that it’s a man’s duty and pride to give 100% at their career……today most are just happy to live off a woman supporting them or get that government check in the mail.

many here won’t like that truth, but I always keep it 100.

So what happened to McVay in 2019 and 2020? Stafford made the difference. Not McVay.

The game is simplifying and it's sloppy. The rules help the offenses along as needed.
He did take them to a super bowl with Jarred Goff…

Hard-nosed coaching has disappeared because owners care more about talent then they do about discipline. A coach can no longer cut a players, because of his mishaps. Because the owner is going to step in a veto the coaches decision.

If McCarthy wanted to cut Fowler for his boneheaded plays against Denver, Jerry would say no. If McCarthy wanted to cut Joseph, because of his issues, Jerry would say no to that. So the owners mindsets these days are garbage.

Players used to fear and look up to their coaches.

Now, most millenial players just look past them. They have zero respect for authority and listen to nobody about anything.

The days of Parcells and Jimmy are over. The breed will die altogether in the NFL when Belichick retires.

Going forward, it's about hiring cool baby sitters to coach, while dumbing down schemes to be as simple as possible.

Games look chaotic, undisciplined, and sloppy. It's about trying to manage your crappy team better than the crappy team you're playing. It's one of many reasons offenses typically move the ball at will.

Coaches are grasping at straws at how to manage these kids, but they stay quiet about it because the paycheck is soooo good.
The schemes aren’t dumb downed btw
Also in todays pro sports the guys on the teams are all friends…that’s another dynamic that is entirely different

It’s the same evolution that has happened in the workplace and in the family

CEOs don’t yell at their employees and demand things if they expect to get results. Parents don’t hit their kids in the mouth and order them around any more either.

it’s cultural, and specific to any pro sport. Might as well embrace it and move on.

The players make tons more money than the coaches. Why would they listen to someone that makes less money. It makes no sense. You need someone like Tom Brady to set the example and hold everyone accountable. He turned Tampa from a joke into a real team overnight simply by setting the bar that everyone had to maintain.

It's basically the same offense you see at Southlake Carroll or Highland Park on a Friday night.

College quarterbacks are so less prepared these days coming out of college. That's why the QB position has regressed so badly in the NFL.

Imagine when Brady and Rodgers join Brees in retirement. It'll be hard to watch.

They made more money than the coaches in the 90s, too, but they listened and respected authority.

agree with every thing said but the last sentence. Don’t embrace and don’t move on. Resist and stand.

……I guess I should expect the FBI or IRS at my door by the time I get home from work.

Blaming this current generation but dismissing the generations before them to allow this to happen is short sighted.

I’ve never got the point of worrying about something that’s not gonna happen lol
Jerry is not firing MM now
That may change after the season but today it’s a waste of energy to even consider

Didn't teach my kids that nonsense, which is why they and others like them are destroying their peers in the workplace.

This culture is making it much easier for them because they're valued more than they actually should be at this point in their careers.

It’s really interesting to see all the stuff the older generations blame the younger generation(s) for. The Cowboys are poorly coached because… millennials. Darn millennials and their not respecting their coaches!

The mature and totally not entitled and definitely angelic young men of the 80s and 90s Cowboys would like to have a word with todays players. Our players aren’t showing nearly enough respect for authority by stabbing people in the neck with scissors, doing coke, or having sex with minors. But dang it, their coaches were tough! They were disciplined!

Also, both offensive and defensive schemes have gotten more complicated over the past 20 years, so…

One of the best posts I've seen in a while, you can say the same thing about football chat boards many have turned into banning and delete sessions because they don't want people to express their opinions if they don't align with the agenda.

Facts and I am not MM fan.
What's odd? When Garrett took over in 2009, he took the team to a 6-10 record. The following season his first of many 8-8 seasons started. MM had a pandemic for his 6-10 record but doubled the wins & a playoff birth in only his second season. That said, it's refreshing having MM after the Garrett Clapper fiasco!
