First, I think this guy has had a pretty solid rookie season to date. Hasn't turned in the picks but coverage wise he's been almost everything you could ask for, and he hasn't found himself on the wrong end of too many plays. To me he doesn't look very fast on the field but he's not getting torched either.

The question I have is, does he project as a safety or corner in the future? Also I'd like to know how everyone feels about his play 6 games into the season.

I hope they keep him at corner, enough of converting players, just draft a safety

This is kind of where I am leaning. Assuming his play holds up, I would hate to see him move and struggle at a new position.

Great size. The game isn't too big for him coming from a small school.
Impressive ability to cover tight ends.
I can't say if he will be a typical corner. My gut has him as a safety over a corner.

Overall he has been impressive.

Byron has played about as well as anyone could've anticipated. We knew about his athleticism, but he's shown to have a great football IQ and good field awareness. I think he's got the skillet to play free safety or potentially be your starting corner along with Claibourne next year. Hell I'd make that change now because Carr is just horrible. He looks like Newman in 2011. Giving up big play after big play, missing tackles, not being a play maker like he was brought in, can't handle any speed or quickness, isn't even physical anymore which was his strong suit.

Jones has the range to play free safety, we saw today he damn near had the team's first turnover in a month, we saw his coverage skills on display against Gronk a few weeks ago, really caused him some problems with his size and length as well as just the overall athleticism. Gronk did overpower him a bit and I think he does need to get a little stronger and improve his tackling especially if we plan on moving him to free safety.

Where he ends up for good in future years remains to be seen. I think he's earned a starting role as a safety on this years squad. He's a better player than Wilcox and deserves to be out there full time. IMO.
His inexperience will come back to bite him from time to time, but. This season is probably a wash out,so like with Collins, might as well get him in and let him learn. Wilcox hasn't done anything to show he's irreplaceable. That's for sure.

He's found a good niche as a TE stopping coverage guy. With the league being so reliant on the tight end these days, that's a good little niche to have, IMO.

I think they are going to keep him where he's at. There's a lot more hybrid DB's these days because you need somebody big enough to cover the big, athletic TE's and WR's and somebody quick enough to cover the pivot route corners and somebody that runs well enough to stay with the burners. So, you get a guy like Jones and you can put him on Gronkowksi one week, then Beckham Jr. the next week and then a Jordan Matthews the next week. He might not outright shut down these guys, but if he can keep them in check from week-to-week it's very valuable.

Where Jones plays depends on who we draft next year.

If we go CB early, he sticks at FS. We go S early, he sticks at CB.

I think moving to FS is a mistake. He wasnt a guy that stood out there in college. Just another guy on the field. It was his CB play that got him on the draft radar before his insane combine

He has been great so far. Never seemed to be overwhelmed by anything thrown at him. Great pick!
