Lets talk about Conor Williams

Looks like he needs to gain about 15 pounds of muscle, looks miniature out there next to his teammates and opposing dline.

Allowed 1 sack in two seasons in college, allowed 3 in one game in the NFL. But I cant say all 3 are his fault, there's a player behind him that holds onto the ball way too long.

Exactly I think we all know Conner Williams needs muscle and upper body strength probably needs 20 lbs of muscle. Needs Weight room this is why he slipped out of the 1st Round. You are right on Dak holding the ball too long. Me and a friend were talking today and both of us were in a deep conversation about Dak. He holds the ball too long which means his decision making is a little slow. We both think his rookie year he looed good because he was asked to do certain things and he did them well and looked good. Now hes the full blown starting QB and having to absorb 300% more material than his rookie year. This could be a case Dak does not have the mental ability or RAM drive to process everything and perform. Look at Tom Brady physically Dak is a much better athlete but Brady has the RAM drive to process everything and perform. This could be a case that Dak is simply not an NFL starting QB but we have this season to figure that out.

We should have either extended Ron Leary or kept Lael playing Guard.

In hindsight, absolutely. He didn't get a monster deal. This reminds me of the people that were saying we shouldn't pay all of that money to Zack Martin, and that any guard can be serviceable.

The kid didn't look good throughout pre-season and it carried over into the first game. While, he may turn out to be a solid player in the future, it might be more wise to have a plan B and have a more experienced guy start especially against a good and aggressive DL and work him in. Getting game experience for the future is great, but it affects the team now. Why put a player in a spot to struggle when you know they're not ready for it?
ok - now lets be fair...who DID look good this pre-season?

the cowboys as an org mailed it in and setup some PR sessions for 18 game seasons, 2 games pre-seasons cause they don't see the value there anymore. so when we don't put forth the effort and don't take the "warm ups" seriously, this is what happens. it's more a sign of team chaos than a mark against williams.

Dak looked bad, no doubt about it, but it's not all at Dak's feet. Sometimes he did hold the ball too long and sometimes, there just wasn't anybody open and sometimes the protection broke down too fast. Can Dak be a successful starting NFL QB, yesterday says doubtful, but to compare a 3rd year QB to a 20 year vet and one of the greatest to play the position is always going to be unfair. Of course Brady is going to process faster, he's seen it all before and playing for a better coached and prepared team with more talent. It's the same as comparing the Pats organization to the Cowboys.

Didn’t Leary miss an entire season in Denver due to injury?

That's the issue, the team dysfunction. Just because he was heralded 2nd rd pick doesn't mean he's going to be ready to be a starter from day one and it was evident during TC, he would struggle against bigger and stronger NFL DL. The OL is supposed to be our strength, why put a guy in they knew would struggle and not have a plan to work him in instead of just send him out there hoping he would surprise you. It's not about knocking the pick, it's about putting players in positions to succeed and this staff doesn't do that.

He's a tackle playing guard. He will either replace Collins or Smith in the future. He won't be a long term fill at guard.

I've been thinking this since we sleected him. Every plus attribute he has lends itself to playing LT, not OG .

I said it before, Collins should be playing left guard and Williams should be playing right tackle....Williams is still a kid, he'll get bigger and stronger in the coming years but his footwork is much better than Collins who has trouble with speed rushers in space...
You're hired.

According to ESPN he weighs 310lbs but I'm not buying that. Zack Martin is 315, are you telling me he is only 5 pounds less than Zack? There is no way he is over 300. He looks like a tight end. In fact, he looks to be about Rico's weight.

Remember, he played tackle in college. Guards in the NFL are big guys. Nate Newton was 335. Defensive tackles are big boys and Connor is letting them blow up the running lanes. Personally if we're keeping him in the starting 5, as others have said in this thread, I'd move him out to tackle where he played in college and move Collins, who weighs 323lbs, inside to guard.

I bet Romo had more influence on Dak than anyone else a few years back. I really wish they would have made Tony the QB coach.

not like our OL hasn't been hit with some strange issues this off-season.

as for "heralded" - um...ok. i didn't see a whole lot of people going crazy saying he was all that and a double bucket of whipped cheese but some were happy we got him where we did. to get all SEE HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN seems more agenda than honest.

the "i was told"
"i read on this very site"
"but but... "

crowd is super annoying.
yea, a few people go crazy as they always do and some will make those few people the poster child of thought for said player.

He's gong to struggle this year, but I expect him to come into next season bulked up and ready to roll to the All Star game.

This year is a learning season for him.

Best me to it Quest. Exactly right

Yes! You are absolutely correct. Collins is a beast at LG but just average/mediocre at RT. He should have never been moved to RT. If Williams can play RT then I would definitely make this move. However, I am not sure that Williams is physically ready to be starting at this point in his career. He looks like he needs to bulk up and get a little stronger.

He's not ready to play in the NFL. You draft a guy that high, he needs to be ready to play immediately, unless you're talking a QB or someone with an incredibly high ceiling. Anyone think that defines Williams? exactly. Another winner from the Jones' family.

Or you can bank on all the goodness that a Jaylen Smith type pick brings us, still a jag 3 years in. Stephen can go on radio again today and tell us what a mega-star he's going to be.
