Let's talk about Dak's backup

I like Ehlinger, ....he is a hard nosed tough SOB who is a gutsy QB. Some compare him to Tebow, but he throws better than him. Great leader. He may not turn out to be an All Pro, but he will have a nice lucrative career as a reliable backup like Colt McCoy. Can also run the RPO. I would not be mad if Dallas takes him in the later rounds.

But i would keep Gilbert around.

I'd be happy with Ehlinger.

I would love to see what Gilbert can do, then maybe draft another guy this year.

They could have had Mitchell Trubisky seeing as he signed a 1-year, $2.5M deal to be the back-up in Buffalo.

You know the more i think about it., Ehlinger has the same type of playing style as Dak. Same kind of arm and mobility. The offense would not need to be changed at all. yeah, that's the ticket.

Correct, though, obviously, not as talented. Still, with development, I can definitely see that. If we have to play him, I think he's got the skills to play similarly to Dak. Plus, it's good to draft QB most years. Gives us trade fodder if needed as well.

Gilbert and bring in another body for third. DiNucci is so raw, so TC arm and PS for him.

Gilbert on the roster and DiNucci saved on the practice squad again. They're gonna go with the cheapest option available and not waste 3 active roster spots on QB. That has been the norm with Dak as a starter. Last season was the exception as Dalton was a unique circumstance signing and gave a hometown discount for a year

Not hearing/reading much.......of course it's not their high-priority list right now but something to keep an eye on. Keep in mind, MM was Alex Smith's first OC with the 49ers. I think Spotrac has his market value around $4-5M.

*Alex Smith
*Colt McCoy
*Garret Gilbert
*Cooper Rush
*RG III

With Andy Dalton gone, which way will Dallas Cowboys turn for backup QB?
Garrett Gilbert on the cheap and easy. He's already on the roster and costs very little. It's the way to go after money spent on Dak. Gilbert did well against the Steelers last year and I suspect he's only getting better being mentored in that QB room.

This should be a poll to see who everyone prefers as Dak's backup.

Someone cheap that can win a few games if need be. Otherwise, give me a top 10 pick again.

everyone saying GG after ONE game is way over reacting to one game..this dude has zero experience and possibly played the best he ever will, it was an outlier..you cant role with his a a 2 because with Covid and possible injuries' just like last year you need a real 2 to win any games..

not sure who that is but should be solid Vet GG as Third yes..no COOPERRUSH!

ive always like McCoy as Longhorn fan etc so i wouldn't mind him..bring him back to TX :)

First Smith was a starter lost his job and now WFT doesn't even want him as a backup. Gilbert and Rush are both still under contract with the Cowboys. RGIII can't even keep a backup job any more. McCoy is a 11 year vet and hasn't been listed as a starter since he played for the browns. Of the QB's that aren't under contract with the Cowboys the one that has had the least number of games not able to play because of injury is McCoy. If push came to shove and the Cowboys decided to move on from DiNucci, for what McCoy probably could get picked up for I would do that as a backup QB with Gilbert.. If nothing else it would bring another Texas boy back to Texas.

Gilbert. I would give him the opportunity.

He should have played at the very least in week 17, because of this the front office aren't sure if he is up to the job.

He possibly ruined the squealers season. Dude deserves a shot

100%.......not to mention, who was the first person Dak called out for helping him with his rehab?????

Who Prescott talked to about an injury has ZERO to do with Smith coming to Dallas. All those that want throw out there that for ONE season McCarthy and Smith were together on the 49ers SIXTEEN years ago also has ZERO to do with if Smith comes to Dallas. McCay's scouting department, Jones and McCarthy aren't going to be concerned with what he did 16 years ago. Smith is NOWHERE close to the QB he was SIXTEEN years ago.
