Let's talk about Dallas intangibles

Im not just talking about the Cowboys team, I'm talking about the DFW Metroplex as well. If Dallas is trying to keep a guy like Tank or recruit a FA, what advantages does Dallas have? Any disadvantages?

I would think Dallas would be viewed as a significantly better destination than:

1. Cleveland
2. Pittsburg
3. Baltimore
4 Cincinnati
5. Green Bay
6. Buffalo
7. Washington
8. Philadelphia
9. Kansas City
10 Carolina
11. Tampa Bay
12. Minnesota
13 New Orleans



Questionable depending on what the player is looking for:

Vegas
Los Angeles (2)
Seattle
Miami
Houston
New England (Boston)
New York (2)
Arizona
Chicago
Atlanta

I would think that in terms of quality of life, and surroundings that Dallas would be top 5 for most players. Add in visibility and really only New York compares.

NFL players in their 20s aren't nearly as impressed by "America's Team" as some Cowboys fans over 30.

To them the Cowboys are a team that gets a lot of attention for past glories, but doesn't compete for championships in the 21st century.

Good question, I think it mostly boils down to who pays them the most money, where do they have the best chance of winning, and their potential role. The actual location or team is probably only relevent if the numbers are equal or very close. Perhaps location is higher on the list for an aging veteran that has made their money.

There was a time when the promise of a championship was a big draw but that was back then more so than today. Of course, the massive contracts that were routinely doled out by Jerry in the past are no longer routine. Stephen has effectively put a damper on that tradition. Needless to say, with the exception of Amare Cooper, signing primo veteran FAs from other teams is more of a rarity nowadays. Sigh . . .

The biggest thing is endorsement deals. This nonsense that playing for America’s Team doesn’t matter any more overlooks that it can make a big difference to a player’s off-field earnings.

It’s all about $$$$$$

I remember a few years ago when Murray left, Lamar Miller was waiting for Dallas to offer him a decent contract. He wanted to be here but we wouldn’t pay up so he went somewhere that didn’t.

Do you really think Beasley wants to leave? Do you think Murray wanted to leave? Nope.

As far as the taxes, it’s not really proven to be an advantage. I just read that agents or players rarely use it as a talking point.

These players career can take a fast turn south on any given play. Guaranteed money overrides all. You can live where you want to live in the off-season and when you retire.

I would think that you could also toss in there the fact that endorsements, jersey/merchandise sales, and popularity of sheer # of fans, probably offers more than it would with any other NFL team.

Do players get any % of jersey/t-shirt sales with their name/number on it?
