Let's trade up for Malcolm Jenkins. We need defense, not offense. We can get a 2nd rd RB or WR. Jenkins is a great CB prospect. He will be a very solid player at least. Selling the farm for an offensive player when you have the top offense in the conference is stupid.

Our defense is struggling. Jenkins would be a great 3rd CB for a year or two.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but do you draft prospects and 2nd string players in the first round? I know it's a crap shoot sometimes, but you never head into the first round of the draft looking for backups. You're looking for impact players like Spears and Ware. But, you get busts, too, i.e. Carpenter.

Plus, if you're going to trade up in the first round, it's definitely not for a prospect or backup.

I know some will try to use the QB position and say first rounders are put on the shelf for a year or two so they can mature. That's different. Everyone knows unless they are a Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman, etc., who can take the pressure, it's fine to sit the QB.

Besides, we've spent the past five drafts (Spencer, Carpenter, Spears/Ware, Newman, Roy Williams) on defense. At what point are we going to draft for offense?

Newman and Henry both missed games this year. A solid 2nd rounder at the lowest would be nice to develop. Henry has missed games each season for a couple of years now. Reeves is good, but not great.

Jenkins or Cason will be studs in the NFL. You really cant go wrong with an Ohio State DB.

I'd prefer that the Cowboys not move up for a corner.

But if the Cowboys used one of their own 1st round picks on a CB this year, I don't think that CB "must be a starter" in his rookie year. If he earns a regular spot in nickel and dime packages and perhaps contributes as a quality punt/kick returner, that's pretty darn good.

Third CBs see a good bit of playing time.

I don't see us trading up more than a few spots for a player, and while I agree that we'll take a CB among our first two selections, I think it's time to start spending some decent draft picks on offense. We've been very fortunate with FA with Kozier, Columbo, and Davis...lucky in the draft with Gurode, and we have all our backups as late picks. It's time to pick a quality WR in round 1 or 2 and not keep hoping we'll develop a star player at the position.

What we do in the draft all depends on how we do in FA and what's available on both sides of the ball there.

you're not going to find a CB to be a stud in his first year. That's why you let Jenkins play the nickel and stuff for a year.
