He’s getting paid either way. Whether I make millions it 2019 or 2020 it doesn’t matter. Not sure why everyone thinks he lost money.
Yeah, but y'all told me that wasn't getting paid. Which is it?

if he gets more than 14.5 guaranteed, its a win. Thats the only thing he was guaranteed to get last year. One bad injury, and *poof* hes worth squat.

will he make up the money he mssed out on last year? no. But if he walks away with 30+million fully guaranteed, who's to say he made the wrong call?

This is just not accurate. The franchise tag is not the only measuring stick.

In this case it is though.

Its very simple - Under the tag he was guaranteed 14.5 (or whatever amount it was) for one year. Thats it. Nothing more, nothing less. If he gets seriously hurt then he is basically done. Not too many 29/30 year old running backs who have been hurt get contracts in the league. and yes, i understand that this is the most extreme case of "what if" ... but players have and do get hurt doing the stupidest of things, let alone the inherent risks they take when playing.

So Bell sat out a year... he lost out on 14.5 million dollars. He will never get that money back. But, if he gets hurt, he gets to keep the guaranteed portion of his new contract. What would you rather have? 14.5 or 31.5 million? So by sitting out a year, he has guaranteed himself 31.5 million dollars... to me, that's a win. ymmv.

Patriots fans actually have to help Cowboy fans understand things smh.

I said he didn't lose anything. He sat out to ensure he got more than $30million instead of taking about half of that and risking a big injury. Smart decision in my book. I'd not work for a year if it guaranteed I would double my money the following year.

No, it's not. He had other options than just playing under the tag.

The steelers were using him up and he had no guarantees. He shoulda signed the tag kept his mouth shut and fumbled on the first 5 handoffs. Lol. He didnt want to play for Pittsburgh. His strategy doesnt work well because hes just a rb with only so much earning potential and has a couple of strikes on his resume.

Hes fresh and ready to resume. Lets face it his passion for playing for the steelers wasnt worth the cash to him. The steelers looked at him like demarco murray. If you lose that trust from a top player hes better off sitting out if his heart isnt in it. You get hurt like that. Look at ET. Money obviously feeds that drive but theres more desire from a team offering to pay a premium committment w guaranteed dollars. If there is no committment how is the player supposed to feel. Especially if hes the top wr or rb with max usage. Lol.

Antonio brown would have had to play out his contract and 2 franchise tags. Lol. He moved on to a HOT MARKET! THEY WILL SELL 10 MILLION AB JERSEYS BEFORE THE FIRST PRESEASON GAME. He sure scared the heck out of everyone with that mustache. Lol

I Wanted AB for the Cowboys. The Cowboys could have snatched him. He takes winning a tad too seriously, might have some narcissistic qualities and be a tad alpha dog like Irvin. You couldnt ask for more in a #1 wr with his skillsets. The player works hard and expects to raise the level of expectation around him through example and hes pretty clean outside fines for doing the pelvic thrust as an end zone dance. He can go up and get a ball and has every skillset a wr can possess. I like those Alpha #1 wrs. You put them in a bad environment and they arent worth a nickle but the right environment and he'll win you a SUPERBOWL.

Oakland stole the best trained best skilled wr in football. They are gonna make a trillion dollars in merchandise and endorsements. He got everything he wanted which was a committment. No difference than Bell. That really means alot to the player who has a family. Now ya just gotta keep him humbled. I do believe hes better than Jerry Rice. If he gets pointed in the right direction i do believe his talent and pure consistent #'s will break records alot of records.

At least he can go up and get a ball. That is one thing i did enjoy about Dez. I like an alpha dog te that can go up and get a ball also.

Those alpha dogs score more tds. Look at Gronk. Football is not all about pure stats. Some people just dont do well when they dont feel needed. We need that alpha dog wr and te than can win 50/50 balls so we can add that element to our red zone failing offense. Lol.

What happened to Jared Cook?
What other wr or alpha dog wr that can go up and get a ball. Could Dez come back for 3.5 million. How about Demarco murray he could get an extra 4 tds. Throw ware out there for 3.5 million in the playoffs lol.

We need that alpha dog wr and te who can go up and get a ball. Our offense is lacking in passion. We just dont have alot of great weapons.

If that is what he said, that is further proof he is not smart.

What he wanted was a long term contract with guaranteed money. That is what he got.

You can sit there and poo poo his deal all day long, but he has 35 million in guatanteed money coming his way, a contract worth 52.5 million at face value, and potentially worth 61 million.

All that and he didn't have Pittsburgh hand him the ball 400+ times last season, running him into the ground on the year two franchise tag.

Real difficult to see the downside here.

So unless you can explain it using terms that go beyond " he's stupid "... yeah... he wins.

It's about 99% likely he will have lost out on 10+ million. I call that a downside.
