What's wrong with Irsay pointing fingers?
Ask the good citizens of Baltimore what they think about the moral authority of the Irsay family.

Lost in all the controversy of what Limbaugh may or may not have said in the past 20 years is the fact that the Checketts group (which is now reported to include George Soros, but that's another matter) would likely have been good owners of the St. Louis Rams.

I am not saying they were going to go out and win Super Bowls left and right, but there is every indication that their intentions were to bring some stability to the franchise and renew their commitment to St. Louis. I know it seems like just yesterday that the Rams left L.A. for St. Louis, but we already hear whispers that a new ownership group may leave for greener pastures.

I think potentially the biggest losers here are the Rams fan of Missouri.

Let it be known that the Checketts group didnt just go belly up because they dropped Rush. He was going to be a minority owner. His cash won't be hard to replace.

Question:

Do the owners have to approve him buying a share in the team after the fact? I mean, Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony have a stake in the Dolphins, did they have to approve that?

If not, I have a feeling we may still see him as a part owner.

The owners get to vote on any new ownership group that takes control of a franchise. They have to "approve the sale" so to speak. If someone just buys into an existing ownership group, I don't know for certain if that is reviewable or not but I would assume some sort of review by the owners and/or the league occurs.

Well if the Soros report is true (and I have no idea whether or not that is the case) then it will be interesting to see if the media and commissioner and other owners are logically consistent or if they are a bunch of hypocrites. Will his money be easy to replace too?

I am not so sure it is as easy as you seem to think. Getting someone to pony up 9 figures into an investment they will have no control over is likely easier said than done.

I doubt it was 9 figures which is 100 million. More likely 50 million or so each for some of them while Checkets puts in more.

Soros should be a much bigger reason to say no then Rush ever was. But I will bet the typical hypocrisy of the media will not say a thing. And all those so called concerned citizens will also say nothing.

Wasn't Jim. That was his father and all his father. Jim has and continues to try to distance himself from his father. I have met Jim a couple of times and the guy is very nice man. Don't confuse Jim with his father.

If you have to chose between Dan Snyder, Al Davis and Rush Limbaugh as an owner - who would you prefer? Bombast aside, I'd take Rush.

The old man was a drunken nut case, but the kid has been golden in Indy. Ask Indy about that. Baltimore is dead and buried with the old man.

There's no hypocrisy. The NFL doesn't care about people's politics, they care about avoiding controversy. Limbaugh is a highly public, extremely (and deliberately) polarizing figure. Soros funds a lot of political activities/organizations, but he's not out there making provocative statements in public on a regular basis - most people barely even know who he is.

If this was the Rev. Al Sharpton everyone would laugh and never question his disapproval one bit
Well of course no one would question the disapproval of a potential black owner. Wait a minute, the hell they wouldn't.

The man did say some pretty stupid things--and those old, tired, comments about McNabb were inaccurate, imo. They were not, however, racist....just (misinformed, imo) comments saying McNabb was getting promoted more due to the semi-rare fact that he was a black QB. Again, I think he was wrong, but not racist on that one. Some folks out there are just flat out babies.

Not surprising really. Fair or not, an outspoken dude from the right is much less acceptable than the other way around in today's USA.

The reason why it might seem like a racist comment is because he brought race into it,when he didnt have too. Being a black man.I have been introduced by white associates to other white associates by them saying he is cool for a black guy. By those comments make me wonder what is said when I am not there.

Do doubt...and I agree. It may be more ignorant than racist though.

As for the Rush/McNabb comment. I consider that a specific toward McNabbs qualifactions and certainly a comment an honest black man could have asked as well. In either case, the comment was misinformed and somewhat ignorant...imo.

BS. McFlabb was being puffed up by the NFL right before and after his puking and choking at the SB. Rush was dead on about him and the NFL.

lol. It is at least a truly debatable topic. That's why I don't see Rush bringing it up as being racist. I do disagree with you on this one though...I think McNabb has had a very good career.

I would think that would be as legit of a reason as any to not allow him to own a team.

The man was doing enough oxycotin to kill a large horse and to think there's no chance he still has a problem is a bit foolish (not saying he is, but the odds are not in his favor).
