I would think that would be as legit of a reason as any to not allow him to own a team.

The man was doing enough oxycotin to kill a large horse and to think there's no chance he still has a problem is a bit foolish (not saying he is, but the odds are not in his favor).

What exactly are you implying then? I don't listen to Rush but I agree with him on most things especially about how liberal political correctness is completely screwed up and aimed at silencing people that don't agree with the narrative.

Now apparently George Soros is in on this group who would have thought it LOL! big chance that was a coincidence. But hey he will get a pass, no matter that he was convicted in France of insider trading, he paid a large fine and really just barely dodged jail time.

Gee felon inside trader and NFL team owner what could possibly go wrong. If the NFL wants to lose my support this is the perfect road for them to travel. If Rush Limbaugh isn't qualified for a NFL owner how is George Soros? This was a libel and nothing more and I find it sickening and scary frankly, how someone can be excluded on false information because he's not of the correct political persuasion should scare everyone with a open mind.

HUff po & Rich Sanchez retract their racist allegation statements.

Lets see......the NFL Dolphins has this rapper Fergi of the Black eyed Peas in line as minority owner.........ever read over or listen to some of her lyrics....

NFL lets Olberman hang around Sunday nite football........is he any less of a "polarizing figure"........

American Thinker blog.......Rush set up by Checketts????
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/10/was_rush_set_up.html

......biggest disappointment is that few players, former players, owners made any kind of a stand..........heard only of statement from ESPN Steven A. Smith, Ken Hutchenson and Coach Dungy.......all class people vrs. Irsay, M.Wiley & Sharpton types

quote from Rush...I'm very honored. I now have something in common with Justice Thomas: I, too, have had my high-tech lynching."

You are throwing out some serious allegations there.

Having studied drug addiction quite intently and done very heavy focus researching drug addiction and having friends who have had drug addiction problems, usually drug addicts don't quit cold turkey after a stint in rehab. Very, very rare. And that's considering most of the subjects researched and studied upon had far less of a drug addiction than Rush had with oxycotin. Could Rush have quit cold turkey? Sure, but that's like saying a 5'5" guy can play RB in the NFL. Darren Sproles has done it, but it's very, very far and few between. And does the NFL want a guy whose decision making abilities might be influenced by a drug addiction.

And anybody who knows anything about the inner workings of the NFL know by and large, without question, this is a very pro-Republican league...especially when it comes to the ownership. Not trying to make disparaging remarks about the Republican party, but Rush is of the same political party as probably close to 90%+ of the ownership.

And yes, I agree that felons shouldn't be allowed to be owners in the NFL. But if the ownership in the NFL voted Rush out from being an owner, then blaming it on 'left wing political correctness' is absurd because the lion share of owners are Republicans as well.

LOL... All the old PZ regulars showed up in here. Even in the NFL Zone. Predictable.

The earlier piece said it best: the NFL wants to be Disney and does not want a figure like Rush involved in it. Some fans would like it, others would not especially in a state like Missouri where the political base is so evenly split.

Lost in all the controversy of what Limbaugh may or may not have said in the past 20 years is the fact that the Checketts group (which is now reported to include George Soros, but that's another matter) would likely have been good owners of the St. Louis Rams.

I am not saying they were going to go out and win Super Bowls left and right, but there is every indication that their intentions were to bring some stability to the franchise and renew their commitment to St. Louis. I know it seems like just yesterday that the Rams left L.A. for St. Louis, but we already hear whispers that a new ownership group may leave for greener pastures.

I think potentially the biggest losers here are the Rams fan of Missouri.

The Checketts group hasn't been eliminated, they just removed Rush from the equation... at the same time, from what I've read, they were considered somewhat of a longshot all along...

That's exactly right... those boys care about their bank balances, and this decision is a reflection of that...

How does the NFL have any say in who NBC employs?

BS. McFlabb was being puffed up by the NFL right before and after his puking and choking at the SB. Rush was dead on about him and the NFL.

I thought his argument was that the media was hard-up for a successful black QB and he was getting credit he didn't deserve.

Either way I think its stupid. He could have simply said he didn't think McNabb was all that good and left it at that.

Instead he says that people with the opposite opinion are racially motivated to have that opinion. Just dumb to say that everyone else's opinion is all about racial bias. Its a friggin opinion, something people are entitled to. The media is free to champion who they want and it isn't like the guy was playing like Rex Grossman with some All World defense carrying him every step of the way.

Was what he said racially motivated? I don't think so. I do think him being an attention ***** did play a role.

Question:

Do the owners have to approve him buying a share in the team after the fact? I mean, Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony have a stake in the Dolphins, did they have to approve that?

If not, I have a feeling we may still see him as a part owner.

I was wondering the same thing but I would assume that any change in ownership no matter how small has to be approved.

If they have to approve it on some level, something like ownership probably has to approved on all levels.

There's no hypocrisy. The NFL doesn't care about people's politics, they care about avoiding controversy. Limbaugh is a highly public, extremely (and deliberately) polarizing figure. Soros funds a lot of political activities/organizations, but he's not out there making provocative statements in public on a regular basis - most people barely even know who he is.

I think this sums it up pretty well.

Also, it isn't like the league was alone in being against his bid. When you have an owner saying he would nix such proposal, you better believe he has a strong backing from the other owners to go public with such a comment.

I guess I know what it's like to be silverbear now. Just get into a thread late and go on a run of replies. Still need to extend it about a dozen posts to get on his level though. :D
