Linebackers 2022

LVE's career is likely over after this year. Few will come calling with that neck and certainly nobody is giving him a lot of money.
Jaylon had interest from multiple teams in one day. Lve will find work if we don't resign him.

I don't think we should re-sign LVE and maybe not even Neale. I just think we need to minimise our injury risk and those two don't help us with that.

Difference is the Cowboys are paying his salary for the rest of 2021. So, he's basically free for GB. I think LVE will get some auditions too but unless he's going to get back to the guy he was as a rookie, I don't see him sticking anywhere the way he currently plays.

I can see minimizing injury risk, that's just smart. But LVE has had zero problems with his neck and at least in my opinion is playing very well. If you let him go it's the bird in the hand situation, just because we struck gold with Parsons doesn't mean you can absolutely do it again next year.

And there are other needs that again in my opinion need addressing before linebacker, such as guard, corner and (again) defensive tackle. Won't find another LVE or Parsons in the 3rd or later rounds probably.

Have to let the year play out, I don't think it's unlikely at all that LVE will get multiple offers from other teams after this year, if he has no problems with the neck. Maybe too rich for Dallas' blood and that's why he'd leave, but that's an unknown at this time...

the rookie version was an all-pro, at that level of pay he'd command 15-20m aav. i don't think he'll ever be back to that but that doesn't take away from the current version having value. there are lots of JAGs playing lb in the nfl. LVE isn't great but he's solid compared to the rest of the league. There aren't 90 better lbs. he'll have a job as a borderline starter making 2-5m aav without much issue imo.

Is Cox promising? I'm not being argumentative. It's a legit question. I was SUPER happy we picked him when we did. But, has he done anything yet? I've been meaning to ask how people thought he was doing.

Jaylon Smith just signed with the Packers.

As shocking as that sounds........... Smith is actually playing well in coverage. Sucks against the run but maybe they just needed a coverage LB and on the cowboys dime. Zero risk for them. LVE needs a new contract. Thats a whole other thing.

LVE is leading all LB's in tackles a quarter of the way through this season. He also has the 2nd most tackles for a loss and had the first sack of the season.

Again, only 4 games but if he continues on this trajectory and adds a turnover or two, he may change a few minds.

It is shocking when people are that wrong.

Jaylon Smith does nothing well on the football field.

He fakes giving effort and almost making plays pretty good. 3 years of tape just caught up with him.......but he's got 31M in career earnings. So, he fooled somebody.

Quinn will definitely want both Neal and Kazee back. He may not get both, but at least one will definitely be brought back. For the sake of this thread, I'll say it's Neal.
So Parsons, Neal and Cox. Probably a draft pick or 2 in 2022 to round out the position...

I think they will retain a vet and then draft another.

The vet retained will not have a large deal in terms of term, SB or $. It'll be like an Jordan Lewis type extension.

So, let the honest offer bidding begin at some point between LVE and Neal.

I don't see either LVE or Neal actually getting paid big time by another team. At least at this time 4 games in.

LVEs claim to fame is his rookie year, 3+ years ago. The other 2.25 years have been average at best.

LBs for 2022:
Parson Middle LB
Neal - OLB
Cox - OLB

- LVE will likely depart in FA, but the writing was already on the wall when the club declined his option year.
He's never returned to the terrific 2018 rookie campaign form.

- Hopefully Cowboys won't have to get into a bidding war for vet Keanu Neal whose missed past 2 games per Covid protocol

- And believe it or not, that happens more than you would think with even serviceable type,.. ala Anthony Hitchens, Damien Wilson getting bigger
contracts elsewhere in FA.

- I don't expect a very early LB pick, but more so maybe a mid-round draft pick (4th-5th rd ?) of course based accordingly to the value of their draft board.
- And I expect another bargain vet LB.. or two.
- And they will sign undrafted guys that were on their draft board that somehow goes undrafted.

- But i dunno what the Cowboys financial resources will have for them to able to re-sign their most significantly key free agent vets.
ala Gregory, Gallup, Schultz, Wilson, Williams, etc.
We're gonna lose more than one key FA, .imo

- They will bring back Gifford and Francis per camp competition, but those are simply fringe guys.

End of LVE's career.. as a Dallas Cowboys player.

- Other NFL teams will make a offer bid on him as a FA, and hopefully they overpay
a big contract on him, so we can get that much a better compensatory pick for him.

- And a lot, for both Cowboys and those other NFL teams making a bid on LVE, depends
upon his durability and performance this year.

- If he's playing this year for a playoff competitive team, ..with that very same neck risk,
those NFL teams will do the due diligence, medical probe,
and come to their own conclusions, perhaps they will may have their own escape options, clauses and maybe incentive laden contract.

- Too bad LVE simply never return to the terrific rookie year per 2018.

1) Will Quinn be DC next year? Will he get a HC gig? Who’s ‘system’ next year? Will it change much?

2) LBs are easy to find in rounds 1-4 and sometimes later.

3) I see the LB position morphing into large safeties and smaller and quicker LBs. Taller players around the 220-240 weight.

4) I would like to see Kamara tried in the traditional LB role and not just rushing the passer. Like to see him in the middle a little.

5) I suspect the Cowboys might trade for a LB soon or poach one from a team’s PS soon.

I think (and have said so all year) that LVE will be gone as well, but I think Neal is signed to a manageable contract.

The Cowboys have drafted a LB (or multiple) in nearly every draft, so I'm certain that they will continue to do so.

Thats what I’m hoping for

With Jaylon being released, what will the linebacking core look like next year? Cox is a promising rookie and pairing him with Parsons is very intriguing, but what happens with Neal and LVE? Both are on the last year of their contract. If Cox plays well I doubt both of them will be resigned. If you are the front office what would be your next move?

LVE just went on a cry fest with the media about Jaylon and how people on social media need to grow up, he was comparing football players jobs to everyday normal folk and how they shouldn't be criticized. He is very dumb, he will be gone soon. What he said in the interview in my opinion won't sit well with our coaches...

Neal is still young...same age as Jaylon. He could very well be part of the future, especially if Quinn is still DC here
