I watched Malik Jeffersons entire Longhorns career. He never played up to his 5 star recruiting potential.
But then again neither did ex Longhorn Jordan Hicks and we all seen how good he became in the NFL.

What is the draft prognostication for Jefferson is terms of rounds?

Like if he slipped to the 4th, I would almost always take a chance on that type of raw skill at that point.

You sampling is the exact reason I don't see Hitchen coming back........he will not sign a multi-year deal to share the Will with Smith or Mike with Lee.

I think many of you overrate Hitchens. I suspect he's not going to be a hot commodity for teams as a starting LB. I am sure some teams will look at him and he might even sign somewhere else, but I don't think his demand as a starting LB is going to be that great. I suspect he's viewed as he should be........... very good special teams, very good situational/spot starting LB.

Roquan Smith's performance last night in the Rose Bowl ensured there is no way the 'Boys land him without moving up. Kid is a stud!

There were guys posting during the game that he didn't do anything. At the end of the game he got named defensive player of the game. Serious difference of opinion. I like him, but I am not sure he has the size that we look for.

They apparently were very interested in Shazier a few years ago and Shazier wasn't a big hulking LB himself. Same height, about 10 lbs heavier at 235 than Smith.

Good point, and I would certainly take a Shazier.

I've seen mocks having him as late 1st early 2nd.
I would take him as a second rounder depending on who's on the board at the time.
I wish he would've stayed for his senior year.

Interesting. I think we pick 50th? He might be worth a flier there if we don't go LB in Rd 1.

A guy I'd love to get in the 2nd is Deon Cain, WR from Clemson.

Sure he will........ he has no rep outside of DAL
If he does leave we can sign Zach Brown or another vet

Frankly, I'd swap Brown for Hitchens right now without even blinking. But I have no issues with Hitchens back. He's a good special teams guy and a good situational LB. But a guy like Brown is a better LB IMO and provides some insurance if Smith still needs development next year.

All depends on the $$. If Hitch is smart and play it right he can get good but not great money but prolong his NFL career by playing part time. In the long run he preserve his health and still get paid. Of course ego may get in the way.

Sean Lee missed his 2m snaps escalator again...... he only played 59% of D snaps and needed to hit 80%

That money can go to Hitchens or Zach Brown

Not that I don't want an upgrade a LB but why would Zach Brown sign for less than what Hitchens will get? Brown has better numbers and according to what the board is saying.. a better player.

I’m really hoping we can bring Hitch back though it’s probably unlikely.

We need an influx of talent at the position and start planning for our future. Jaylon is a question mark at best; Damien Wilson hasn’t turned the corner; and we have a vacancy with Durant gone.

I concur!
off the cuff question? Just how long has Anthony Hitchens ran a winter 'line camp' & rode for this brand, anyhow?
Yer' buying the first round,,,and if you keep a spare bottle of whiskey in the saddlebag,,,I reckon we could be thick or thru the thin pard's,,,,friend:)

I think we can come out of this draft with two quality backers. I'd look for us to spend a day 1/2 pick and then a pick on day three.

As for Jefferson, I see him as a Will if he were to stick in the league. Size-wise, he fits the bill as a mike, but it seems like he's pretty average in trying to shed OL blocks from what limited Texas action I've seen. He's a day two prospect.

IIRC he got stuck with a one year deal after wanting too much in a multi year deal and the teams interested in him went elesewhere.
Could happen again lol

Not so fast there my friend, he is only going to a 4-3 defense and the need for RB's has grown along with the insatiable appetites for QB's it would not be difficult to create a logical scenario where he makes it to 19

I went back as far as 2010. 1st LB taken....latest one in the 1st was #17. Usually 1st LB off the board within top 10 picks. If Roquan Smith is the best LB coming out, it's unlikely he makes it to 19th pick.

This team does not need to devote a resource as precious as a first round pick to a linebacker. We have three quality backers right now. I would be ok with taking one in the second or third, but not in the first. I'd much rather see OL, DL or S in the first.
This team has three quality linebackers?

Sometimes I wonder if the people that post here watched the team play this year.

This team has 2/3rd of a quality LB in Sean Lee.

this draft we need to find a replacement for Lee. That means not only a MLB but someone who can be what Lee is on the field. The last guy we had like that before Lee was Dat.

Mac...I would be ecsatic!!! I would do back flips if the draft were to play out that way.
