I think many of you overrate Hitchens. I suspect he's not going to be a hot commodity for teams as a starting LB. I am sure some teams will look at him and he might even sign somewhere else, but I don't think his demand as a starting LB is going to be that great. I suspect he's viewed as he should be........... very good special teams, very good situational/spot starting LB.

That's the player I see him to be too. We need to pay him commensurate with that skill level.

I was just thinking the top end of this linebacker class is pretty weak actually. Smith may be the only linebacker taken in the first round.

Disagree.

On a spectrum of game contribution Hitchens makes a lot of impactful plays. He pairs well with Lee.

So you think there will be a ton of interest in him from other teams to be a starting MLB in this league?

I don’t. Doesn’t mean someone won’t sign him. But I think people thinking he’s going to be a hard signing might be overvaluing him.

Yes, I think there will be teams around the league interested in signing him to be their starting MLB and, yes, I think he'll get a lucrative offer (relatively speaking) to the degree that the Cowboys likely won't or can't (due to other pressing contract issues) resign him. You're not high on him, but if I'm trying to assemble the best defensive personnel to put on the field, Hitchens is part of that group in my equation.

I can also totally imagine Jerry explaining how their "evaluation and confidence in Jaylon continuing to get better...." led them to not addressing the LB position.

Positions I would look at before LB (unless an all-star playmaker one-of-a-kind top 10 talent was available): WR, DT, or TE

Why: a WR changes our offense from one dimensional. A DT makes the LBs better. A TE, again, makes us less one-dimensional. A LB makes us better too, but not as much

Hitchens is a backup LB on a contending team. We should do better than him.
