Linebackers

As bad as LVE played Neal was more of a disappointment, he was supposed to be that coverage/box safety disguised as a linebacker and sucked at both. Re-signing LVE is less than ideal but since FA is before the draft you have to decide do you want the devil you know or a devil you dont.

Im a fan of neither. I don't think it would be the hardest thing in the world to find better players in free agency without spending a lot of money. I'd imagine LB will also be a focal point in the draft.

If you watch film of 49ers with Samuels in the backfield the plays going wide. Neal out was laughed at in the forum prior to game it was dismissed . Well the edge was a sea of Red as time after time the edge belonged to SF.

LVE had one of his better games I suppose but the bar this year was set low so ….Parsons had his hands full all game did what he could . Cox hurt out missing huge part of the year really hurt. His speed and physical play would have really helped sideline to sideline.

Given the roster with prob LVE & Neal gone in 22 this club is once again looking LB in the draft and here’s hoping a Jabril Cox type can be found rounds three through five because I see OLine in Will McClays shopping cart early & often .

You just painted the issue with LVE. He makes a tackle but its often 5-10 down field. Everyone celebrates him for his tackle total when the truth is the defense just couldn't get off the field.

Eh Cox looked more like a finesse LB, maybe rookie year learning curve, when I read he is coverage stud I do not expect him to lay wood as a run support guy. As unpopular as it may sound bring back LVE or Neal, I would lean towards LVE, you need true LBers for depth, if they Re-Sign Kearse they have two guys that can do Neals job in passing and running game.

Seem to remember 14 “ laying the wood “ on Danny Dimes in Giants game kept him out of the end zone with just that sideline to sideline violence that was needed against SF . Finesse is not a word that comes to mind with Jabril Cox

Tackling a QB like Danny Dimes is now an accomplishment.... Either way Cox is needed but there needs to be others, maybe Luke Gifford. Like I said since FA falls before the draft you have to make choices. This FO is going to spend pennies on the dollar for someone to fill LB positions in FA since you try not to go into the draft full of so many roster holes that you are drafting for need with every pick.

LVE is not worth bringing back would rather roll with Neal at league minimum or near minimum then give LVE too many yrs attached to too many $$. Gifford & Bernard seem strictly Bones Fassel material . Need to draft another LB Re sign Neal with Parsons and Cox from last draft.

Not so sure. He barely sniffed the field before he blew out his knee. Don't think he would have been a difference maker on defense at all this year. Hoping and praying that our 4th round draft pick coming off an ACL injury is going to be the answer at LB is not a sound strategy.

I mentioned drafting that position in the thread . He’s part of the puzzle . It’s a roster . I would hope rehab goes well and he’s a starter in 22.
