I think this yr was a rock bottom. I believe the team will dedicate to the DL just like they dedicated the last 2 RD1 picks to OL and the OL is pretty solid right now.
Two of the last three, but who's counting?

I think so, too. And it was mostly as bad as it was because of the accumulation of injuries. But I think that rebuilding is going to take more than one season, and we're definitely in a grace season under Garrett. It's definitely possible we can get enough better to get to the postseason in one year. But only because we really were so bad to start with. I'd feel a lot better about it if we weren't losing our best defensive player from last year in the offseason (Hatcher) and if Ware hadn't seemingly turned into a pumpkin.

I think they will add a free agent or two.

We will. And our proscouting department gives me some hope that we'll do ok on that front. They may be the DL equivalent of Mack and Livings, and they'll be widely panned and lamented, but they'll hopefully add some stability.

I'm still surprised we didn't add a DL early last year (2nd or 3rd round). Just having a second year player to pair with Crawford would make me feel better about the overhaul. Finding Selvie helps, though. Another signing or two like that and a hit in round one on a 3-tech or a DE would make me feel a lot better.

Eagles got their DT in the early 3rd.

Here's what I think..

Garrett is finally getting to build his own staff.

what a concept?

Its about time Garrett was allowed to take his diapers off.

As a famous Cowboys coach once said..

' if you expect me to cook the meal, at least let me shop for the groceries'..

Get to cooking, Garrett.

You mean the last passing game coordinator that Linehan is actually replacing, John Garrett, the brother of Jason Garrett, was not part if Jason's hand-picked staff?

Man, the re-writing if history in this board is hilarious.

I have not read the whole thread....but if this is more about getting rid of Garretts playbook...I am all for it.

I don't understand.

Garrett knows this guy from his days in Miami.

Are you guys trying to tell me that Callahan..

hand picked by our Satin-owner..Jerrah..

..did anything close to do a good job calling plays and running the offense..?

You are joking, right?

Callahan comes from a branch of coaches going back to Chunkie in Oakland..circa 2004.

In the NFL..that's a dinosaur lifetime.

Callahan's offense was so old school..

they don't have an alma mater for it anymore.

We didn't run a west coast offense? And the zone blocking scheme, which was the highlight of the offense this year, was Callahan...

I think if they dedicate the draft to DL and depth you can take care of the immediate need. Ware, Selvie, can start. I have to believe if Ware dedicates to health this offseason and concentrates on getting his strength back he will bounce back. No doubt in my mind. Selvie is good enough to start and play on 1st and 2nd down. You add a Dee Ford who can keep both of these guys Fresh or just start Dee Ford and rotate Ware and Selvie you can create alot of passrush. Move Ware and Dee around ou create mismatches. Draft BPA for DE,DT early in the draft will go a long way to getting back on track. Marinelli doesnt need great talent to have his DL be effective. He does need guys who arent affraid to work hard and play within the system. Play smart and do your job. Be able to get off the snap and shoot a gap. He did an admirable job with players off the street. Imagine what he could do with Young top draft prospects. I also think if Marinelli calls the plays on defense the philosophies will change some too. A more aggresive approach. Kiffin is set in his ways and isnt going to change much, but he could provide Marinelli more information from above on what offenses are doing, and Marinelli can adjust to players at field level. I think that was more of a problem for Dallas this yr. Having the DC on top while the assistants were relaying adjustments. You have a guy on top relaying info down to the DC, he can adjust and inform as a unit. Getting everybody on the same page, instead of having 3 seperate coaches telling 3 groups.

I thought Garrett took back play calling duties as an aside?

Garrett said he never did.

And all he was doing the last month of the season was relaying the play in to Romo. Riiiight.

Sorry the mysterious games they have played from day one regarding the change, who wanted it, who knew about it and when just screams dishonesty, so forgive me if I do not take Garrett at his word. Even now, they are being all secretive about Linehan and have not made any kind of official announcement.

I just love the constant re-writing. We are told the defense was the problem and that too, because of injuries. I was told there were no issues on offense, cause the Cowboys were top five in scoring. When Garrett's job was supposedly on the line, news was that Romo was audibling out of Garrett's run plays.

Its just getting embarrassing the extent this organization is going to in order to prop up a head coach in training.

Name me one other team in the NFL where the GM has publicly said that the head coach is "in training" 4 freaking years after being hired...........anybody, name me just one other team.

Does not matter. We are run like every other team. Everyone does things just like our front office does.

The comedy is that the latest excuse for Garrett, that Jerry has hamstrung him, is blown out the door. This is another testament to Jerry's desire to make his hand-picked guru succeed.

Jerry has hamstrung the Cowboys with his ego, not Garrett. Garrett still being here is a result of Jerry's ego. Big joke.,.

He is going to be elusive and evasive like a politician, it is not necessarily a bad thing. I just do not trust what he says, nor would I trust what many coaches would say when asked about the inner workings of a dysfunctional environment., especially when they have their own reputation to protect.
