T-New's heel might nag all season. Wade says Stanback is not ready.
Should Cowboys dial Drummond's number?
Todd Archer reports that
Terence Newman has been diagnosed with a case of plantar fasciitis, which is fancy doctor talk for severe pain in the heel. It's likely that the condition will nag Newman all season.
Safe to say the odds of Newman returning punts on a consistent basis have significantly decreased. Patrick Crayton didn't exactly inspire confidence in his ability to handle that role with his performance against the Broncos. Wade Phillips has said he doesn't see Isaiah Stanback as a punt returner. Maybe this is the crack that allows Jerheme Urban to get his foot in the 53-man roster door at Miles Austin's expense.
Or maybe the Cowboys ought to consider signing Eddie Drummond, the
return specialist cut by the Lions yesterday. Drummond averaged 10.6 yards on punt returns last season. He has returned four punts and two kickoffs for TDs in his five-year career.
The problem with Drummond is that he can't do anything but return punts and kicks. He can't play receiver. I asked somebody in the know about him and got an emphatic no as a response.
