Divisional winners should always win in the wild card round. It should have been a 'sure win' for the Cowboys. Green Bay should have been dead on arrival (e.g. had no chance) playing on the road.
The Lions were the number one overall seed and played at home. Washington proved they had a chance of upsetting any regular season division winner by advancing to the divisional round.
Flashback to last year: Green Bay did not do to the 49ers on the road what Washington did to Detroit this postseason. 2024's Packers should not have advanced. They did.
Additionally, the playoff bracket expansion to seven teams per conference is very recent but past results are still notable. Sixth seeds have made it to their conference championship rounds and even the Super Bowl.
Although records are meant to be broken, a seventh seed should never advance. Green Bay disproved then re-affirmed that notion in back-to-back NFC postseason appearances as a seventh seed. Dallas should have made certain the Packers seventh seeded postseason streak should still be 0-2.
